RIP Seiko. I started really enjoying her in this episode.

Old dude went out like a boss. No idea what he said to Munakata. Hopefully we get to find out next episode.

NOOOOOOOOOO SEIKOOOOO!!!!!!

I really liked her, I'm sad she had to die :( that girl was a real sweetheart, much sweeter than the confectioner, ironically...

Also, Tengan died noooo skjbgskjdbg. Well, his death was seen coming, though, since he was freaking stabbed through the chest when he fell with Munakata. Also, I wonder what he said...the traitor's name or a full sentence? Munakata looked mega surprised so it must be something mind blowing, I hope!!

Also, with Seiko and Tengan did they kill off the last likable new character just like that?

Chisa (?), Tengan, Gozu and Seiko all gone.

I don't really have an opinion of the 2 dudes with Kirigiri at this point as they haven't had much screen time, and the rest are all assholes. Candy bitch and her BF are dicks, Munakata and (especially) his house boy are supreme douchebags, Monaca needs to fucking die lol. Am I forgetting anyone?

OKAY, SOO...there's just way too many things going on and my head f*ckin hurts like hell. So many different things going on, yet nothing is fully getting answered and we only ever get small hints and clues...and those darn cliff hangers. Going to split up my post into different sections because...hell is breaking loose.

I will first of all start off talking about what I believe to be the very important points from the conversation between Tengan + Munakata. There are several components to their conversation, as they do jump around and talk about several topics. I will begin by just making my own thoughts very clear in this situation: I do not believe that the attacker/traitor is Munakata. Throughout this episode, there have been many moments where the viewer could label Munakata as the attacker, as his actions and thoughts appear to be delirious. He attempts to kill Tengan even after learning he wasn't the traitor...or attacker. He uses Seiko's drug at the end of the episode. Tengan mentions how he 'sacrificed Yukizome..." I think to understand why Munakata is not the killer, we have to understand his beliefs and why he is acting in this manner.

Case of why Munakata is NOT the traitor

Case of why Munakata is both RIGHT and WRONG in his actions

Munakata's blindness to the situation

This is why I believe Munakata is completely blind to the situation. He sees what is "happening", and is taking the initiative and using the situation to his advantage, however he is blind to how his way of thinking is ironically even causing despair. This would also explain the conversation between Tengan + Munakata:

why EXACTLY Munakata is wrong in his way of thinking

Now...I know I kind of BSed explaining WHY Munakata's way of thinking is wrong, but in this episode, in their conversation they actually sort of delve deeper into this topic. In this conversation:

**What if the conversation/discussion in the above spoiler tag supports the theory that Tengan, possibly Chisa are working together to create a project...create this situation in order to "produce the ultimate hope" by combining Naegi + Munakata's beliefs?

A possibly artificially created hope, made with both a VISION + DIRECTION...hmm it does sound like a possibility of why this situation is happening, does it not?

A lot of random...unorganized thoughts. My brain hurts as much as the next person's @__@

i both loved and hated this episode. i like how we got to know more about best girl Seiko and how she was such an amazing person and how Ruruka was a little asshole before this mess all before Seiko's death. super sad about that, but it at least gives me the fuel to want to see Ruruka burn (or freeze based on OP).

Izayoi was redeemed with his whole stand against Seiko and however the hell he bust out like 30 blades out of nowhere. meanwhile, Ruruka... there's no redeeming her. she thinks she did everything like use Seiko all cuz she trusted her, but that's just total BS. hate her.

rip Seiko and rip TenGOD. they didn't deserve it.
as for Ruruka again, hope she dies along with Munakata and Juzo :)

side note: never realized til rn that her shirokuma looks interesting lmao. it's like a simple version of shirokuma and quite different from the ones that Junko wore, but i like it :D

Best episode comnined future arc, despair arc. despair arc is pretty boring for now but hey just be happy to have some danganronpa

I understand that DR3 is trying to hit the "talent isn't everything and being reliant on the concept of it leads to more harm than good" point home, but I wish Andou had a much more sympathetic and interesting major reason for treating Kimura like garbage. Unless the intent was to clearly make Kimura more likeable/sympathetic than Andou, in which case, I would have liked to see both sides be as sympathetic (or near equally) as each other.

I feel like that's Kodaka trying to be more clever than he is than symbolism

Not sure how much responsibility he has over the OP imagery, but if he's mostly responsible, agreed. At first, it was interesting foreshadowing but now its significance as such is waning IMO since the deaths don't necessarily resemble the OP. I mean, it may resemble a majority of them by the end of it all, but why some and not others had to be different... I don't know (yet).

This just felt like a waste of time. Last Despair episode established Seiko as a likeable character, so I already knew she was doomed. Now we spent almost the whole episode playing up Seiko as the sympathetic victim and Ruruka being a hateful, manipulative bitch, and "shockingly enough" Seiko bit it at the end. Future Arc is getting really dull and predictable, another disappointment this week. Narukami also killed the only other likeable new character, thanks fucker. Nothing else really happened. The scenes with Kirigiri and Monaca felt really pointlessly shoved in there just so they could have SOME screentime.

Despair Arc keeps on winning, Future Arc seriously has to step it the fuck up.

I more or less agree. Shocker, the cool people die while retards and assholes get to live in a Danganronpa story.

You know what's funny? Kirigiri isn't even a favourite of mine, but right now, she's the one I'm rooting for the absolute most in the future arc. She's competent.

inb4 they kill her off as well.

Well, Fedora guy has a bit of potential to be interesting as well. We haven't really seen enough of him or the animator.

Despair arc is what I'm looking forward to the most now, and it's probably going to stay that way for the remainder of the series.

It's very sad that all the likable people die now, but do not get blinded by that.
The future is impossible to predict, so it's too early to say everything is lost now.

Ruruka is meant to be a bitch, but she's not evil. People just take what she says at face value. Look at what's behind words like 'You won't eat my candy' instead of thinking that that's her only motivation.

Sakakura is meaned to be an enormous asshole, but remember what's happening in the last two episodes. He's been beaten the crap out of, and generally not being shown as a serious threat. Even if he won't be redeemed, he is useful in a meta way. After all, Tengan became awesome thanks to him. In a way.

As for the characters we don't know that well yet..

Mitarai is obviously a bit similair to Neagi. This has a lot of potential, maybe as a third camp of 'how hope should be'. Tengan mentioned a project, maybe Mitarai is involved in that too.

Kizakura is a very interesting character. He seems extremely calm, and he's probably very good at reading people. The reason behind him trying to be close to Kirigiri might be more than just 'it's safer'

Izayoi has gotten a lot of screentime, but not that much charactization besides basicly being Ruruka's lapdog. Him of all people finding that door is pretty strange. There's the chance he's not what he seems he is. Either that or he will go through a bit of character development (Which doesn't bode well for Ruruka's survival chances)

Adding to that; Danganropa has often twists about the setting. In 1 it's that the world as they know it has ended, in two it's that the setting is a VR rehab program. Izayoi's disappearing dagger might be a hint that the setting isn't the FF HQ. All the stuff with Hagakure might be a red herring.

TL;DR It's episode 5 out of 12. A LOT of things can still happen.

So Seiko can't eat sweets because of the medicine she's taking... And Ruruka knew the reason and dare hold a grudge against her. Honestly what kinda grudge is that, eating sweets will kill her, it's not like she's not eating on purpose. So full of herself, I don't like her. Poor Seiko, I like her... even tho she's kinda negligent despite not being conscious of it(talking about the Ruruka/Ka

anything for dericious sweets.

Man Asahina got a lot more badass in this season, she's my fav right now. Don't die pls

Dat's some good friendship drama, Ruruka has twisted ideas of trusting others tho.

I think the old man said Sakakura Juuzou? I'm not sure but that's what I got from the no. of times he moved his mouth, and Munakata's reaction.
And Munakata is so damn annoying. I want him to shut up as soon as possible. At least the old man took away one of his eyes before dying, good job.

Man Seiko got killed... I don't even care anymore. She deserved some justice, what a sad life she lived, helping others while suffering alone.

So ... I would say now, that Kyosuke is pretty clearly the traitor now. Tengan knew that he's the traitor and so he killed Tengan. After that, Kyosuke was injured badly, so when the sleeping drug-thing happened, he decided to kill Seiko, because she always had the right medicine for it. As you could see at the end, Kyosuke took the same medicine as Seiko took.

^ But THIS is probably ONLY what they want us to think, it would be WAY too simple for a Danganronpa series to solve a case like this. At least, this is what I think c:

On paper is a very stupid reason (even more so since Seiko will die because of sugar) but thinking about it, the fact that Ruruka's best friend negates the only thing she's good at feels like it hurts her value and invalidates her worth as a person.

Imagine that the only think you're very good and proud of yourself in life gets shrugged off by someone important to you who is much smarter and can use her talents in ways yours never will. You will probably feel worthless, right? That's what happens with Ruruka.

Don't get me wrong, though. The fact she can't even understand how much of a huge dealt her sweets are to Seiko (like the episode said, she will die if she eats them) and as their relationship went along she twisted it and used it for her advantage as well as taunting her right again in this episode even though she knows the consecuences makes her a huge spoiled, inmature brat and she deserves to die.

I would like to point out that truth is very subjective. Just because he thinks he isn't lying doesn't automatically mean that it is the truth, since it only detects whether he believes he is lying.

Tengan is probably wrong or even downright lying. I think Monaca only put the forbidden actions for fun. The bracelets are controlled externally by Monaca and she has to activate them to work but she can only do this if she can see that the players actually commit the forbidden action in front of a camera. Since Tengan and Munakata fell somewhere a blindspot, Monoca wouldn't be able to see what they are doing or talking about.

UGH! Why the Chairman!? Munakata really needs to die, along with that damn boxer. They have lost their minds. I have to say that I actually despise Munakata MORE than Byakuya, which is surprising to me.

Poor Seiko. I feel so very sorry for her. Ruruka also lost her mind. lol I can't absolutely hate her, though. She suggested for Munakata to be killed off, which I agree with since I absolutely loathe the man, despite how much he helped others before. Also, it's like she feels that her making sweets for people is her only worth for her to even live. Rather deep, in a way, but obviously Seiko had her reasons not to, and to basically ignore that while making her feel like she's being taken advantage of, that's just cruel. It's such a shame. :(

It's nice to see someone else empathizing how Ruruka felt, but still. What the hell is her problem? Seiko kept insisting that she indeed couldn't, to the point that she will actually die if she did. You have lost my respect, Ruruka, but quite honestly, I still don't want her to die, what with her relationship with that dude she's always with.

It's probably not gonna happen, but I hope later on she regrets what she had done.

So Seiko is dead and she will never make up with Ruruka that's kinda sad.
With all these flashbacks and monologues I think they still really liked each other but they couldn't really talk it out because Seiko is too meak and Ruruka just too stubborn.

My personal opinion on this whole "not eating my candy affair" is that deep in her heart Ruruka just wanted Seiko to also depend on her or to ask her for sth.
So she kept on asking Seiko for help and thought that someday Seiko would surely ask for sth in return so that she could prove that she can also be useful.
I especially got this vibe because in one of the flashbacks Ruruka said that making sweets is her only talent and that Seiko won't recognize that.

I feel Like I only can root for Kyoko Kirigiri and Makoto Naegi only now.The Rest I just don t care If they live or not die anymore considering my other favourites are all kill off. Which are Chisa,Seiko,Great Gozu and also Chiaki If the Danganronpa 2 characters are included. Lol overally I only have three to four character that i like that still live in this series.

Well I will always remember Chisa and Seiko As one of my most favourites characters In Danganronpa series even If they are dead They still one of the best well develop character In danganronpa series for me.

Even though I use to somewhat like Munakata at the beggining I want him dead now along with Ruruka. Munakata have went too far the only way he can redemn himself is through death In my opinion.

Ruruka as well for being absolute jerkass and deserve painful death at leasts for her treatment to Seiko. Juzo needs to die the most horrifying deaths for all the crap and things he mess up trying to kill Naegi,Kirigiri and the rest who gets in his way,Causing Hajime to become Izuru Kamamura and like Ruruka Being absolute jerkass.

Munakata can rot in hell for all I care. His view of hope is going towards the main antagonist's, who I believe to be Monoca, entertainment and plan, from what it seems so far to me. It's bringing about a lot more despair than hope to me.

Helpful backstory, but didn't explain what expelled the 3 students.
I get Candygirl's pov, but maybe she can go choke on a hardcandy. Red garcher looked cool, but probably'll die soon, since all the badass characters have died first.
Oldie said something shocking to Munakata, seems attacker is pres or no one specific, but sounds very related to pres' masterplan.
Read Naegi's wiki, said nothing about Kamakura project, whatever let the show explain it.

Well, Ruruka's an ass, along with Munakata. Both of them practically killed two awesome characters.

God. Danganronpa usually has to kill the awesome ones...

So Seiko can't eat sweets because of the medicine she's taking... And Ruruka knew the reason and dare hold a grudge against her.

What kind of illness? Diabetes? Or the medicine? If so then the medicine react to sugary things? Why even seiko have to kept consume it..?

If Ruruka was so good at making candy she'd make one out of such ingredients that Seiko could eat honestly.

Candy with a plain flavour. Seems good.

In the name of "Oichii" -> "dewicious" sweets
I wonder if andou isn't a confectioner.

Just had a chance to watch this, and maaan, what a great episode!
Too bad Seiko and Tengan has to die here.

Got lots of interesting insight reading whole comments and all regarding what Tengan said in his dying breath, still piqued my curiousity, plus the fact that Yukizome is the only victim with her eyes wide open till now... so sad. Can't wait for next episode.

Ruruka and Izayoi are the worst characters in Danganronpa history. God they are obnoxious. Almost all these characters are unlikeable minus the first game cast.

Monaca what is she up to? And who is the traitor? I still think it's Yukizome.

To be honest, I don't think Monaca's the traitor. Sure, the one who pulls the strings behind the curtains and the main antagonist of this whole thing, but I think there's someone else with her...

Im really trying to like this show, I really am, although, during this episode, I can't help but to think that these overextended fights have no real meaning besides filling the space in the episode which makes apparently like the story is progressing. Maybe it is, but really slowly. 5 episodes and we haven't seen any form of investigation AND no this episode didn't have it too because Kirigiri looking to the corpse for a very long time and not making any mind notes or explaining the evidences is not an investigation. You can say to me that the situation has changed or that I'm bitching like a 5 years old and etc, but I will tell you honestly that whatever feeling and anxiety to see the next episode I had with the previous show, in this show I don't have any. Take it to the count, a diversity of very dislikable characters and it makes really hard for me to enjoy it...well at least I'm feeling the despair they talk so much.

I messaged the danganronpa 3 creator, i asked him if Ruruka would die or not, he said that;"Everyone wants her to die, so that probably means she'll live" ;-; i just hate Ruruka so much, but sadly she probably isn't going to die, now, about what Tengan said, i found a peraon that dubbed what he said, and it was "Yukizome" (not official, just theory)

I think he either said: Yukizome, or that the traitor is no one.
Judging from his reaction.

This episode made me cry so hard...pour Seiko. She died with some really huge despair. Also, I feel like their might be a pattern in how the attacker kills people? As you can tell, Chisa died with tears in her eyes...(which suggests she was despaired too) and Seiko died with her "I couldn't save anyone" thoughts. Now, if only we could find a way that Great Gozu was despaired...I highly doubt it, though. It was just a thought.

Also, at people hating Ruruka/Munakata/Sakakura right now...watch them love them at the end. Munakata is basically the new Byakuya but rampaging and crazy. (Doesn't listen to anyone, thinks he's always right, etc.) I mean, everyone loves Togami right? (Even I do) but, I HATED him in the beginning of Danganronpa. So, the three of them at this point are most definitely getting their ~redemption~ arcs unless they turn out to be truly awful at the end of the series/die soon.

XD That's how it usually goes in horror or competitive stuff, does it not? Like a certain someone from the game call Until Dawn, or a certain someone from a cartoon called Total Drama Island.
