I wonder what it will be like. I have loved everything Honey and Clover and I have to just wait and see. Somehow it's not the kind of material what SHAFT usually works on so I am kind of excited!

Shaft already mark the territory. First visual, and we already have a headtilt.

Shinbou is the director and not the chief director? I see he's taking the helm by himself. Also Hashimoto Yukari is a great choice as well. I can't help but get excited.

Visual looks fitting. Though I wish it was more water color/painting like.

I think a little bit of the directing in Denpa Onna would work here.

Visuals looks good with pretty colors, but I hope the series doesn't feel empty in the background like most Shaft series do.

So Shinbou really is directing this one then? Kinda want to see that PV already so I can get a feel for the style Shaft will be going for on this one.

I think you mean Nisekoi, which tbh is the fault of the source material. Most SHAFT shows have great backgrounds, often stunning.

All the Monogatari Series, Nisekoi, Denpa Onna, Mekakucity Actors, ef and Arakawa under the bridge felt a little bit empty to me. I think it's because they didn't bother to draw the background characters or their faces so kind of felt lonely tbh. It might just be me though.

As long as this doesn't act like a shaft show then they might be able to do the manga justice. I'm probably asking for too much though.

Yes, yes, exactly. Shaft is love to indulge themselves into characters relationship, making background almost unnecessary. It's like some post-apocalypse world, or theatre play. In this anime, i think, background is important. I read small quantity of chapters, so can't say for sure, but typical Shaft-performance is not work in this. Maybe, because of that many people got puzzled with announcement of Shaft doing this. But, anime will runs in NHK block. And i heard, that it is more serious block, so it will require serious attitude. BTW (IMO), visual is looks interesting, so it may be interesting how Shaft deal with it. At least, i have more hope in Sangatsu no Lion, than in Berserk.

I don't agree. I think that severed the purpose of focusing on the characters, and show how the characters themselves view their surrounding. This is especially apparent in the monogatari series. The backgrounds usually feel like there is something going on, and it feels alive with little subtle movements, which is more important that background characters faces imo.

I don't think calling the background empty for the lack of background characters is fair, it's just one aspect, but fair enough.

No matter how I look at it, it just feels empty. Even the backgrounds usually feel plain. I appreciate the concept but I'm not fond of it. I don't have the perfect worlds to define the feeling but lets just say it feels like some post-apocalyptic world. Still for Monogatari Series, the dialogue does make up for the lack of background detail. I still remember seeing that park scene in Bakemonogatari after Hitagi crab and just questioning that where has everyone disappeared to?

However for the series like 3-Gatsu no Lion, I believe background matters a lot to create the atmosphere.

Oh it's awesome that another Chika Umino manga is getting an adaptation. Not sure if Shaft and Shinbou are the right people to animate it (was expecting JC Staff) but we'll see, I'm still greatly looking forward to it.

Hoping the characters don't get too much influence from the other shaft works "aka neck twist". The art is pretty good the manga, so hoping it looks pretty good in the adaption.

Huh. Still not looking forward to this (such a miscast with staff) but since this is oriented for mainstread audience (NHK) maybe shaft will go low on their cheap gimmicks & self indulgent antics.
Imagine a berserk anime by Yoshiaki kawajiri at Madhouse.

Now take a look at Berserk (2016).

Kinda late but I seriously cannot wait for this. They even got BOC to perform the theme songs, neat! I heard the manga author is also a huge Shinbo fan, so this could be somewhat interesting.
Keeping cautious optimism for this one.
