So glad this series is back!

The new main characters are complete opposites of the MCs from the first season!

Haku is just so lazy and unmotivated! Kuon is such a strong willed female and such a cutie!

Never played the games, but I will definitely keep watching the anime! Hope we eventually get to see some of the characters from the first season!

So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

Nice first episode. Kuon is perfect and Haku is amusing. He looks so much like Hakuoro though .-.

I haven't watched the original Utawarerumono in soooo long, but thankfully I remember enough to understand most things.

You expected different from a sequel coming out almost 10 years after the original? Shame on you CP you should know MAL better.

In any regard to the episode it was okay, bit bored through most of it and anytime i went to skip scenes they gave me something to chuckle at or a call back to the original to make me go "okay i'll keep it running."

What's funny is i am not really interested in this guy BUT i keep wanting him to be the Castle Fantasia 2 Protag if he is going to be lazy smart guy. I can only hope.

I'll continue following this but i won't hold any standards to it as the original VN holds a special place in my heart despite how meh it was. Too bad i can't play the VN for this :| maybe i'll get a port at some time.

This seems to be decent. One thing is for sure, Haku is from earth or the "real" world. I think the story is about Haku being a reincarnation of a legendary warrior or maybe he's the long-awaited man in a prophecy. I based that on the fact that stories where a man got sent to a different world seems to have the same premise.

No mask, so doubt it, but then again the other one did not have a mask.
Either way he is obviously somehow connected to him considering the start of the show.

Also I doubt the slimes would react that way to just any person.

Dealing with Haku's amnesia is painful. He's physically worthless and no stamina to even walk long distances. Has Kuon babysit him and doesn't try to do anything for her in return unless asked.

Oh but he cant be that worthless right? He can fix things at least but he doesn't want anyone to know so they wont have him do anything productive with what little he can do.

Hope this improves.

It's nice.

But what's with people saying it being the sequel to Utawarerumono? Isn't that listed as an alternate setting by MAL? If not, then should I need to watch the prequel then?

Because MAL haven't fixed that mistake.
Itsuwari is the second part in the Utawarereumono trilogy.
If one likes Kuon, one really should see the first series. So much about her will be lost if one aren't familiar with the first series.

Doubtful, CP is just a fan of knowing everything about a series.

Truth be told the anime and the VN were nothing spectacular. Overall it was an above average VN with SRPG elements...but like it's anime counterpart it was charming and enjoyable. The issue he is having is that this Anime is based on the game which is a sequel to the 2006 anime/game. And that had a lot of shit in it that, if you don't know about it, will make a lot of people go "WTF?" if this anime assumes you already know stuff.

Actually I feel this anime is quite newbie-friendly, it certainly got me hooked onto it and mymy, I started watching the first series and am exactly halfway through. Poor Hakuoro...he's so serious though, it's a bit amusing when he breaks down like that...now what about Haku?

I heard the mysterious swordsman with the mask might be Hakuoro...seems more believable than our current protagonist...

Well its the truth. Regardless of the VN experience, Itsuwari no Kamen will have moments that wont make sense if they havent tried either the VN or the anime adaptation of the first Utawarerumono. This episode already shown some element of that despite almost not noticeable.

Where do I even begin lol....I absolutely loved this for so many reasons

First of all, Haku and Kuon are such a great contrast to Hakuoro and Eruruu and personally I REALLY like the idea that they decided to not make our two leads this round not be similar to them

Haku is HILARIOUS, the guy is lazy as fuck, he has talents as we can see but the dude is weak too xDDD And fucking Kuon HOLY SHIT.....This girl has got to be from the same race as best girl Karula from S1....Those strength feats OMG xDDD I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BOTH OF THEM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great chemistry together already too

Credit goes to White Fox for nailing the beautiful backgrounds and providing us with good art and animation as well as fitting music to back it up and the voice acting has been pretty good too

Great start Utawarerumomo S2 great start....Can't wait to see what this new leader guy is about as well as to see what's going on in this part of the land :DDD

^^ This

huge hopes for this as I played the VN way more than any sane person should and the original anime is one of my top 5 out of the 400+ ive seen so far.

Pretty sure you should watch the first one first. You'd notice that the start of this one mirrors the start of the first one in a lot of ways.

He's lazy, but he seems to have potential. Seems like a decent character. He doesn't have to be as brilliant as Hakuoro to be good. Making him just like Hakuoro seems a little uncreative.

I like this intro. The main character is dropped into a world unfamiliar to both him and the viewer. He's also noticeably different to the world's other inhabitants (Haku seems to be the only one without animal-like ears and tail). Plus he's got amnesia, making him even more of a blank slate (his personality isn't a blank slate though). Discovering that world, and discovering how the main character might be able to carve a niche for themselves in it, is the best part for me. I liked it in Utawarerumono and Log Horizon, and I'll probably like it here too.

Well, I guess it was ok, I expected worse from a sequel.
The first Umono was kinda more serious but I get what they are trying to do here.

Now I expect few easygoing episodes to learn the cast and then true tale begins.

I have to say that main characters are pretty different from the original, they are both unlike anyone there, more like they made them to cater the present audience. Guess I'll have to adapt to this slacker attitude of main character, it may take some time. It seems he has no horns or mask at least. Sadly, some charm first Utawarerumono is gone but at least it's not the same story all over again. It's less gritty and more moe *sigh* Really wonder how this turns out.

Let's hope future characters won't ruin this show as many other.

Mod Edit: Plot spoilers edited out.

It's still a Major spoiler as No one even knows that "setting" when they watch the first anime/ play the VN until the last parts of the story.

To people NEW to the series: go watch the 1st series or Play the VN it's already translated anyways.

Also, better get that series description FIXED ASAP, Itsuwari no Kamen is not an alternative setting, it's a sequel set years apart from the first one.

THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION. DO NOT DISCUSS THE VISUAL NOVELS OR THE PREVIOUS ANIME BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Mod Note: Also please exercise discretion in posting answers to questions, since part of the charm of this series will be gradually discovering the back-story and shape of the world. All we know at this time is that their are some differences...many people have tails, but no one seems really surprised at Haru's lack of one for example.

If you're submitting a change request to make this a sequel rather than an alternative version, you need to provide a link to something that will confirm that.

Its kind of hard to "directly" prove it without literally screnshotting text in the game where they refer to the past events.

Overall the fact that the Itsuwari NO Kamen's production name was Utawarerumono 2 and the next game's production name is Utawarerumono 3, should be enough in of itself.

Naoya Shimokawa's the production director's quote from famitsu interview(which was all the way back in april btw) is the only "real" source
http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/8121543.html
Basically Originally when the sequel was announced, the game , was called Utawarerumono 2, but since the vision of project is a kind of historical epic spanning decades like Three Kingdoms, it was decided to give the game a subtitle to reflect that (since romance three kingdoms has chapters named after events) and that the "Utawarerumono 3"(which will also have a subtitle) is already being written and will be released within a year or two after False Masks.
