TRIGGER animating Ultraman.

That was certainly something I never thought I would ever see.

Those scenes of Gridman fighting really brought me back to my childhood days of watching "Ultraman Tiga" though.

It was okay. I thought it was a Ultraman/Power Rangers parody at first though.

No narrative and no pacing. The only clever touch was how several shots of the combining robot stuff made them look like plastic toys such as when the first one's head had a screw on the back.

This one was just farting around with nostalgia.

I think this is actually Denkou Choujin Gridman. It's made by the same producers as Ultraman but it's not Ultraman.

Basically it was an animated recap of some battles and forms from Gridman (which was adapted into Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad in the United States). The character at the end is Gridman Sigma, who was supposed to be the main character of Gridman's never produced sequel.

I personally enjoyed this one. Reminded me of watching Samurai Syber-Squad as a kid.

It was great. At some point I thought they lost inspiration.

This seems to me like a parody to the old mecha.

the amount of transforming in this made it a bit ridiculous
"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

I remember I had the American version kit that combined into the sort of megazord version of Gridman. I think in the American version they called it Phormo.

I loved how true it was to 90s Mecha anime in terms of animation/music/choreography and especially colour design. I really hope they can keep this dynamic, fiery style in Ninja Slayer
In 9/10 cases, the worst thing about an anime is its fandom.

I have no idea what Ultraman or Gridman is so I didn't enjoy it at all. The fact that I am not a fan of mecha didn't help, either, as it was almost constant transforming/gattai

Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad
"My name is Sam Collins..." opening line of every episode...

I was wondering if they'd have Draco in this... and then they did. We didn't get to see Servo's sword though.

I used to watch that show. I actually still have the action figures of both the main combinations (drills and dragon).

There was so much gurren lagann in this episode lol
The first ultraman + power rangers combo looked exactly like it
The second one with the sun behind it was in the exaclty same way in gurren lagann, but the earth was behind it

TRIGGER why u do this to me? =/

Some campy tokusatsu fun, but it was relying too much on Gridman nostaliga, which I've never seen so fell kinda flat.

Ultraman? Transformers? Zoids? Gaogaigar? What's the flavor here?

Nothing too out of this world here. Seemed like a homage to various super sentai of the past. Let's see...Akira Amemiya, worked alongside Hiroyuki Imaishi on stuff like Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking before moving over to Trigger, directing Inferno Cop and co-directing Kill la Kill. I don't think I could have figured this out just by watching the short. It was too...straightforward perhaps? Though, I wasn't sure what I would have expected had I known about Amemiya ahead of time. Perhaps because of his repertoire, this was actually less expected.

The pressure to continuously create wild and crazy titles must be taxing. Perhaps something like a simple super sentai homage was needed to reach back into his roots and rediscover the spark that had fueled Amemiya to this day. I dunno. At the very least, this short was quite charming in its passionate nostalgic nature, which is something no one can really take away from this short.

I can't say that I liked this since it's basically every mech trope (I don't like this genre) jammed into a short by Trigger.

I found the monster explosions to be hilarious though. They killed Incursio from Akame ga Kill xD

Oh my GOD. Are you kidding me? Like, WOW. How story-obsessed is the Western (yes, I'm stereotyping and generalizing) anime fandom that they cannot just appreciate the ANIMATION part of anime? I bet people of this generation think Fantasia is shit...
