Damn, that was brutal. In wars there are causalities so..
Still, a gun to the head :s

Reflecting the past isn't easy though either. But overall, I thought the episode reflected the reality of battles pretty well with the consequences.

Good ep. Rygart did well for being a newb in a mech machine, but man the machine is just that powerful to cover all his shortcomings there was countless times he would have lost that battle. Well at least he decided he wouldn't run away. Its time for it to really start now.

Still trying to figure out if Rygat is skilled or just lucky lol.

Dam poor Dan, even had a wife and kid on the way, wouldn't of expected Lee to hit a shot in her Golem being that it was so damaged.

I've mostly been enjoying the series so far, but this episode had a couple of things that bother me. It always irritates me when invaders get pissed when someone has the temerity to kill one of them. How many Krishnans has Zess and his men killed already? Rygart also had a poor showing this week. I can understand the emotional turmoil he's feeling, but abandoning his best friend and the woman it seems he loves to almost certain death without even bothering to tell them he's leaving is cowardly. Neither one of them called him on it when they saw him either. I'm hoping that we get some character development that makes me want to cheer for Rygart a little more.

I'm pretty sure in the ovas Narvi was arguing with Rygart about Dan's death while general True was playing with the kids. It's been a while though, so I may be wrong, but if I'm not it's a shame they took it out.

you're right. Is it cause of the 12 episode limit they seem like rushing to the end, to may or may end differently from the movies. At the pace this is going and the amount of cut scenes from the manga it gonna end up at the final battle....

sad to find little fine detail scene cut from the manga but that how anime do their job oh well.

Why can't we be togather like Moon & Stars.

Good ep.

The fight against Lee was pretty awesome. Dat Blade throw! Too bad she killed herself. Being a hostage wouldn't have been that bad

Well, the Rygart reflecting part was nice. U could feel the emotions pretty well there ^^ same for the cemetery scene.

Can't wait for nxt ep.

Holy shit is Rygart a fucking idiot or something??

You're in A FUCKING WAR GOD DAMN IT!!! Don't kill the enemy? leave her behind? Poor Dan got killed because of Rygart's stupidity.

He's the one with superior mecha speed yet all he did was scream, scream, scream "uwaaaah don't come near me!!"

Seriously lol

Besides the fight, what surprised me was that Zess has a kid...

This is exactly why I hate idealist pacifist idiots in a war zone.
You stop your own man from firing on an enemy with a gun in hand and expect the enemy to drop her gun and do the same?!?

Rygart better not forget about Dan. He should haunt him for the rest of his life. It's his freaking fault that the wife is a widow and the child is an orphan.

If you're so overpowered, do something smart like take the gun away from the enemy before you stop your own guy?

Then the running away part was just.... no, I can't say I've ever seen another MC as cowardly as him in any Mech anime. His stock just hit the bottom of the barrel for me.

I'm watching solely for the queen and for Zeiss' squad now. At least those two sides are interesting.
Hoping Zeiss rips Rygart a fresh one to knock his idealist head around a bit. War is barbaric, casualties and collateral will occur on both sides. To wish for a peaceful resolution in the middle of a war zone is like wishing for a pizza delivery in the middle of a desert. By the time the pizza comes, the desert will have already eaten you up and spat your bones back out.

nope.

This anime is starting to feel epic. It reminds me of the manga's epicness that I've felt all those years ago.

The correct answer is that he is the protagonist.

Yeah Rygart's uber pacifism I don't like at all, I've seen it way too many times in various protagonists of anime series, especially mecha series. Reminds me of a huge reason I didn't like Vash from Trigun, over-pacificism, can't kill anyone cuz that's bad kind of mentality that even obstructs very basic logic of battle and war situations. Hopefully Rygart will change at some point and realize he can't afford to hesitate over life and death situations that endanger people's lives other than his own. I guess his dad probably instilled much of Rygart's personality into him by the flashbacks that have been shown, kinda uninspirational with his dad saying don't be afraid to run away and there's somethings you can't really do much about..

Other than him though, I've enjoyed some of the other characters so far. I actually haven't read/watched any of the previous Break Blade material, so for what its worth so far, the overall plot seems fairly interesting. Can't wait to see what happens with this surrender stuff, I doubt everything will go as planned for the surrender terms.

Oh, it was pretty sad Lee and Dan died. Lee had a pretty strong connection with that one chick, wonder how it will effect her from now own (maybe she'll get more serious, start kicking ass? hmm).

Really enjoyed this ep and have enjoyed the series as a whole thus far as well. I haven't seen the movies so I can't compare either of them. Either way I liked this episode a lot and liked the crisp animation (i thought so at least in the stream I saw) and how Rygart is going to buckle down and man up for the war with his friend Hodr.

On a side note, his dad really seemed to have some bad advice, "run away and never look back" and "never borrow money from your friends even down in the dirt from debters" lol oh well.

Rygart's golem really is too cool, probably one of the best mecha I've seen (well there are many that I like XD). It was a shame seeing Lee take her own life rather than being captured and taken in as a prisoner of war, and also about that soldier that died.

I really Rygart, the main character would leave his friends and return home. I'm glad that he decided to stay and "resist destiny".

I'm enjoying rewatching the OVAs. The problem? I'm not watching the OVAs! They just keep cutting the OVA eps in half without ANY new content. Even skipping what they can to make it fit. AND *THAT* EPIC OPENING IS GONE! Here's hoping the manga edits that come later are faithful and well animated to make up for it...

Clearly you haven't seen Evangelion yet, then (in case you have, don't try to be a technical smartarse!). Break Blade is so interesting because its lead character is reluctant. They go in a PTSD direction with him and, without spoilers, he gets rather screwed up later. No man would be willing to kill when he isn't a soldier, doesn't want to fight and randomly finds himself in a robot.

...BUT, he does start killing; starting with the very next ep. He's no Kenshin. More of an after-forced-kill Trigun character.

You shouldn't make a snap judgement. He's actually the best character in the show in terms of characterisation. I mean, sure, he wanted to escape from that situation, but he ended up staying. That's the normal reaction: to run away when thrust into a fucked up situation not of your own choosing. He's more complicated and human than some heroic hero. As highlighted by his reaction to Baldr at Dan's grave.

I only pity Lee for the fact that her country censors history. Barbarians my ass. Ignorant. >:(

Right? Just because he knows her personally doesn't mean she gets to live any more than the next soldier. Zess himself killed a couple just then didn't he? What about them? It's a war, dammit! I'm sure Dan has killed many people too. I just wish he didn't die because of Rygart. That was sad. :(

Seems like they're cutting out some scenes... does that mean we get original TV content? Or no?

This anime includes a place where I live which is just a small state and extremely unpopular which people called as forgotten state, Mizoram and Assam :D and as a nation :O. Just saying sorry don't mind it.

I've been enjoying this anime though I don't like mecha genre much.

well ofc they cdn't tell their soldiers to kill innocent people and steal their resources. Still this country has rly low morality to send 12 years old to army

though i didn;t wish her death I didn;t like Lee. She was arrogant and narrow minded, which led to her downfall. I don;t know how she passed academy without basic rule to nerver underestimate enemy.

I don't know why you guys blame Rygart though, breaking a barrier of forcing yourself to kill sb is not easy. As he has lived in peace his whole life and learned the value of human life it is only natural that it would not be so easy for him to turn to fighting for survival.

A great slice of life lived in time of war, it is condensed in the cruelty and hypocrisy that lives and feeds on these armed confrontations that lead eventually to nothing.
Very well represented during the narration of this episode, it also has a great clash which also saw the downfall of yet another character, as well as that of Lee.
Rygart clearly shows the effects that war has on a person not yet accustomed to it.
Just a shame that this show is still ignored by most, how sad.
I do not think it is a remake, the film enough already.
However, I also look forward to the turning point.

wow I saw 4 episodes yet and i love it.
They have less money tham Nobunaga...the Nobu mechas are more 3D well designed and amazing, but this ones are like older...but very nice too, the characters are pretty well defined
but i love Rygart, and how he is changing his mind....
how he wants peace, but at the end sometimes you have to fight, like Zes say him, when he was attached for that guys at military school.

He i s still beginning to know what is war,and I like the evolution characters,
not physical only ,like in "baby steps"...the main character is changing, growing, learning and you can see this, that makes him more real, you can believe the story. (And Rygart is <3 is my fav now ,haha even i dreamed with him lol ,that never happened before with an anime ...
love this simple character and he is sexy!!)

Because is his fault! And because his actions are stupid! Just because he values human life, are you saying that he should value the enemy life more than his allies?

Are you saying that stopping your Ally action, argue with him, obstruct his vision and focus on the enemy, while letting the enemy roam free and armed to do whatever he can is something forgivable and not wrong? That shit can be considered treason and he could be executed for that. Only reason it didn't happened is because protagonist and anime/manga logic.
What he should do was first immobilize the enemy(remove her from the mecha being the best option) avoiding that his ally killed her in the process.

Defending his stupid actions with his pacifistic values for human life, is like Defending a serial killer deaths because of his values for the human life.
What he is at this moment is a hypocrite! He even says isn't his fault, LOL.

I hope that Rygart gets serious now, he can't allow people on his side to die because of good will.

Lee was a real bitch to her enemies, I don't feel much bad about her. Actually I'd totally hate her if it wasn't for Cleo's bond with her. Which is usually the case with people.

Tsugoi!!! I'm loving this anime more and more after each episode. The only surprising thing is that it is ranked so low in MAL...
I suppose the ending could have been shucked up by the directors, but the way it's progressing I doubt the pilots of this anime would let it derail. So, it looks like I've finally found an underrated anime.

Rygart is a fucking idiot with an equally annoying voice. That Dan guy died because of him leaving his pregnant wife alone. This is war dumbass, it's kill or be killed. You're an adult! not some horny high school kid like in most anime shows. You should be able to think more logically! Damn. Lee on the other hand was a true soldier. Didn't expect her to be young though, thought she was of the same age.
