THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I definitely did not expect this. Of course, a sole three minutes.. but not just.. this. There was no dialogue, which was hugely disappointing. All we could do right now is make vague guesses. Noe seems to have gotten more out of shell, apparantly even attracting new friends, even though she herself isn't that sure of it yet. (She seems to have gotten over the little incident with her brother, since she pays him a visit.) Nobuse and Aiko.. well, they're fine, at least, that's what it looks like on the surface. Aiko is sweet, she deserves it. (Need to listen to the drama cd again.. I suppose) And.. Shin and Hiromi? Seriously, what did we get? We already knew the relationship between her and his mother was cleared up, there were no longer any hardships or grudges between them. But, she finally shed some tears, so we could say Shin's wish has been granted. He wanted to be with the girl after all who was unable to shed any tears, and wanted to be the one to wipe them away. But I would have loved to see something more in the future, per example him joining the arts university etc. But when everything comes together, it's too lame. I LOVE NOE AT THE PIER THOUGH. There, I said it. The song was lovely, though. Eufonius really is suited for these kind of shows. Song sans epilogue over here: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10215351 7/10 because it's True Tears. And Noe. But.. I'm disappointed. |

And why was Hiromi crying? I had a completely different take on the events Despite all of Miyokichi's efforts, Aiko is still in love with Shinichiro thus the boys friendship will likely come to an end. Hiromi is doing bad at sports (thus she was crying) while Noe doesn't want to befriend the other two girls, so with no one to "hold her back" she may have jumped into the ocean??? OR! Seeing that Miyokichi is still jealous of Shinichiro, Aiko brings them together at the shrine to make up, after much persuasion Noe finally excepts the other girls friendship, Hiromi's friend takes over the team so that she can spend more time with Shinichiro? I hate ambiguous endings like this |

I hate ambiguous endings like this True, on the surface all looks well, but when Nobuse walked away, she got that look in her eyes. She must have been thinking of 'what if'.. And yes, for a moment I was afraid she would jump, but I think it was her way of 'to let go', to be completely free, kind of how she spread her arms like wings, but nah, she wouldn't kill herself. Seems like she still had a little place for Shin in her heart, because the stones were still lying there, although shattered. :( I think we should just go with the second explanation you gave. I suppose that's how the writers wanted us to interpretate it. This ending is a bitch, though. |

So, we're the one who'll interpret what happened... It would be more satisfying if there was dialogue though. I was (quite) expecting that this three-minute would be a narration. Something like, a little time skip after everything. And this is what we get. The music was pretty though. Why was Hiromi crying? It's a mystery to me. |

Judging what they showed. This happened right before the ending epilogue they had in the last episode. Seeing as Noe's hair was shorter in this one, she still wasn't friends with the two girls, etc etc. 7/10 though I guess. |

So Noe didn't jump because the real ending is still the original one with her crying in front of the grave. |

And they didn't look too happy either..maybe our protagonist want a harem ending? :) Joking :P |

I don't remember the series much....it was pretty good I think. I remember that about 3 girls loved the main guy and he ended up choosing the girl, who was living with him because her parents died. I remember, his mother being kinda "evil" but she had reasons because of her husband being with the girl's mother (who is dead I presume)......basically she was holding a grudge and caused pain for the girl but after realising the main girl is in the same exact position as her with son and Now forming a love triangle/polygon....the mother started helping the girl. This 3 minute no-dialogue ending is meant to make more sense if you listened to the Drama CD but since I haven't, I didn't really get this musical epilogue and on top of not really remembering the actual series. This extra epilogue to me....came 2 years too late. >> I'm giving this a rating of 7/10. The song was beautiful though. =) |

This looks more like a 3 minute preview for another series, rather than an epilogue. I'll keep my fingers crossed! |

This extended ending definitely seems to be a continuous set of scenes showing the time skip between Shinichiro's confession and the end where Noe gets her tears back. Consider the hair length as a subtle hint, but the biggest hints are the uniforms (the post-credits ending is still using winter approved coats and the pre-credits ending is using spring's fashion catalogue as well as cherry blossoms falling) and the fact that Noe is running from the girls that end up being her friends. This is my interpretation of the events that unfolded. I think the lonely-looking walk on the beach was part of Hiromi's bad personality still evident, but slowly dissipating and culminating into honest tears (the iya-response to Shinichiro's dating-request in that bamboo forest). I kinda read more into this than was probably intended, since I was looking at the pattern of wavering footprints in the sand, where Hiromi's deviates way more than Shinichiro's. As a side note, the only hand-holding in the whole series was Aiko and Miyokichi, really. Given there was one scene of Shinichiro holding hands with Hiromi in the very beginning as kids... however, I feel like the lack of hand-holding wasn't really surprising to me (especially since Shinichiro's whole family seems hella old-fashioned; I think it’s fairly common for a wife to walk behind her husband in many traditional cultures). I actually feel as if this walking scene and the bus stop scene was about Shinichiro explaining things properly and Hiromi finally reciprocating properly. I didn't really think of anything about Aiko's away-glance while she was working with Miyokichi since she didn't show happiness or sadness with her brow (so that was the most ambiguous thing). However, it is still possible that Aiko (at this point, if we are still assuming this scene is before the pre-credits ending) is not sure whether asking for Miyokichi's help and starting over as a friend is a cruel thing or not. As far as I'm concerned, Shinichiro entering Aiko's shop was the resolution of all the bad atmosphere between them as friends. Which is why in the next scene... I think that Miyokichi's confrontation with Shinichiro was a mirror to Tomoyo's on-court play confrontation with Hiromi. Since these are the main support characters that have tried to push Hiromi and Shinichiro together since the beginning. Miyokichi is probably mad that Shinichiro is still hanging around the chicken coop and Tomoyo's is mad about Hiromi's hesitation (the basketball game post-credits is against the blue-jersey Hotarugawa team [written on the scoreboard as the team ahead Mugiha, 33-22], while the team during the pre-credits ending just red-orange practice jerseys on-top of Mugiha jerseys). Hiromi's basketball performance seems to always correlate to Shinichiro, so the fact that she's doing better after than before is a sign. I feel that the scene of Aiko dragging Shinichiro to the temple had something to do with how Miyokichi confessed his love there (and I take it as a scene of starting completely over or rather, getting Shinichiro's approval). Noe running away is probably just part of her personality. Probably something would be revealed in her drama CD. However, I always got a kind of Luna Lovegood kind of vibe from her from the start, so she probably thinks those girls were trying to tease her. For some reason, I had a strange thought as I watched Hiromi's tears scene, with the spliced in scenes of Noe's jump and the basketball in mid-flight. It was as if they were some sort of kindred spirits sort of thing. I also feel that this has something to do with the 'transferring of tears' motif they were talking about the whole series. I totally think this is more artistic or abstract than the rest of this extended ending; since both heroines get what they want during the same series of spliced frames. In any case, it seemed (according to Shinichiro's expression) that he was surprised and didn't know why Hiromi was crying, but she shook it off and smiled (I'm pretty sure it had more to do with happiness than sadness). I think this really had to do with the tear transfer stuff or to do with the last line that Shinichiro says before the credits (something akin to that if you think of someone dear to you, the tears will flow) or the idea of 'beautiful tears'. And she leaned in, which I assumed was for a kiss (slightly open mouth). Hiromi gets her man, and Noe gets her wish (flight and the following tears). Aiko moves on. The only person who probably gets nothing is Jun, that incestuous bastard. Though the Drama CD may explain it, I feel like this was all mostly artistic in showing how each character had found some sort of resolve and melds with the pre-credits ending. I am usually a fairly cynical person, so I found it strange that other people found this ending to be bad (I do see how that can happen quite easily with ambiguous endings). It’s all very subtle and I think if you were Japanese, it’d make even more sense, since much of the themes in this anime are about hesitation, honesty, and doing things properly (i.e., how many times did you hear the Japanese word ‘chanto’ prior to some verb… which means to do/say/act something properly/perfectly), which are very common issues that Japanese media deals with (it’s present here but not always in-your-face, but it’s very common in today’s Japanese media… maybe due to growing hikikomori culture concerns). Nothing happens fast in this series, so the extended ending perfectly depicts the continuous, long road to where everyone gets what they want. Sorry for the long post, but I was originally confused about the ending (but strangely satisfied). However, the more I wrote, the more I could understand why. Hope you guys share more of your thoughts, too! |

At first I thought Noe was going to be sat alone eating, and she seems quite content even being with Jibeta anyway. It's nice to see she's with friends. And about Hiromi crying, I read that she is seen crying due to feeling sorry for Noe, and what she must be feeling inside. I feel quite happy about this, really. I have already accepted Noe isn't with Shin so it's not like there's anything for me to dislike about this, if anything, I just still feel sorry for Noe. Although she has friends, she just seems lonely. |

Beautiful show, made me shed tears of happiness! ...is what I'd say if Noe won at the end. But choosing Hiromi instead? The fucking chicken has more personality than that bland girl. Fuck it, 5/10 because Noe was in the show. |

Didn't see anyone mention this, but the epilogue is actually voiced in a drama CD. Though, I don't think it has been translated. But what I can tell from Aiko's section... Aiko and Miyokichi are trying their best to be friends again. However, initially, the two are unwilling to talk about what happened. Aiko begins to contemplate what she's been doing: about how good Miyokichi had been to her, and how much she wronged him. She wanted to turn back to when they were friends, but something is amiss. Shinichiro appears at Ai's shop. Miyokichi, seemingly awkward, leaves to the back room, giving Shinichiro and Aiko the chance to talk. Shinichiro tells her that he and Hiromi are dating and he thought Aiko should know. Shinichiro leaves the shop after telling her, just as Miyokichi returns. Aiko takes Miyokichi out to talk. She begins to confesses that she liked Shinichiro. Miyokichi said he knew since the beginning. However, while being rejected by him made her a bit sad, Aiko felt the end of her relationship with Miyokichi was much more heartbreaking. Aiko then confesses her love for Miyokichi, rekindling their relationship. Aiko says they should bring Shinichiro to witness the new start of their relationship, as he brought Miyokichi and Aiko together. I don't have the other two sections of the drama CD, yet (not enough people distributing), but figured that someone would look back on this thread and wonder what the hell happened in the un-voiced epilogue. Just had a ping of nostalgia, so I came back here, haha. |

pretty good wrap-up for everybody; - Noe "moves on" and makes new friends, though I wonder what happens to her when Jun goes to Tokyo? - Ai-chan and Nobuse rekindle their relationship - Hiromi becomes vice captain of the basketball team, has a new found respect for Noe, develops a daughter/mother in-law relationship with Shin's mother, not much detail on their relationship but it can be concluded that her and Shin is gonna be alright |

LOOL, the THORA version included this epilogue right after the credits so I was watching, not knowing it was an added content. I will rate it the same as the series, since, it was everything together than made me gave it a 8.5. (would I had been very pissed if I was in the OP situation) |
