Did have time to announce what I really liked about this episode till I saw the subbed one. This episode really got some Yune x Claude going with the obvious following,

It really showed some deep caring at least. From the looks of Yune’s face in the spoiler
when it happened it fortifies my suspicion more. Add to that the “Falling in Love with Claude’s back” and I think I can conclude there is romance build up at least. Whether serious or appreciative remains to be seen. I would certainly not mind Claude having kids with Yune in Paris and populating Paris to have later on around this time lots of Japanese with a instinct on getting manga into Paris. Well IRL it did happen and in fact France has amazing manga translations and popularity including the City Hunters and Sailor Moons last I remember.

I loved Yune’s expression in the following,

Not only does it show her surprise at Claude’s mention of Oscar having a mistress but with the flower it makes it cute. I find it that the end art depiction in the spoiler
is rather nice with the lamp and flower that does represent Yune’s beauty.

Some other elements of this episode:
  • for one I liked the Paris view in both daylight and rain in the spoiler
the design team of scenes of Paris back then are doing a fantastic job because it is capturing me TBH.

  • They did a excellent job to show the boy’s conditions at the end of the episode after the credits in the spoiler
that was rather well done and I do feel sorry of people like him not having money to buy at least the essential food they need to survive with.

  • I loved the girl in the spoiler
her design does show the innocence that Claude mentioned to Yune. That was rather interesting.
About the preview, Next episode is so delicious for seeing Yune in the spoiler
OMG she is in a Victorian dress of Paris. That robe is amazing on her! She looks like a little Japanese Princess. Other than that can’t wait to see Yune surprised like she is here. There shall be some very nice Alice having fun with the Kimono dress. There shall be some delicious Camille and is that a picture of Camille when she was younger? It looks nice and the looks are that of Alice so should it be Camille, it just proves that she looked like Alice. Pretty good episode.

It's quite authentic. There were major problems in Paris around those times due to social problems. So there were young boys stealing and were most suited to it because of their innocent looks. Can't deny this boy is very very cute and MOE. Girls would kill to have such a cute little brother.

Anyway due to their innocence like in the spoiler
they were far less punished. Interesting little part of history in the old days adapted in to this. Makes this a nice work more than other animes to a certain extent.

That boy shouldn't have stole the candle, but he looked quite innocent doing it though. Poor Yune got lost and scared in the process of chasing him down.

lol Yune in Victorian clothes next episode and Alice looking good in a Kimono.

Makes me wonder if sales do good, I wonder if they'll do the sequel Ikoku Meiro no Alice-chan, I heard it's kinda funny and seriously cute.

Yune went to chase the boy who stolen the candle... and gets lost in the process... and eventually frightens herself with other Parisians.... Okay.

Good show as of yet. :)

Ah poor Yune. Getting lost like that. I can guess that by the end Yune and that boy will become friends and that'll be her first friend in France.

So innocent ;_;

Yune has some precocious musings on Japanese vs. urban European attitudes.
I wonder if this show might eventually deserve a 10, although I sometimes want to bite Oscar's face off for his beard and hairdo. He reminds me of Ernest Borgnine too, yuck!

well, i guess i'm the negative end of the crowd here....but i didn't find anything "cute" at all about Yune in this episode. she was rather annoying and i felt like punching her in the face when she just stood and watched that boy steal the candelabra, then proceded to run after him.

One wonders just how tall that boy was since Yune seemed to tower over him.

I must say, Claude's attitude towards his customers and humanity in general reminded me very much of the time I visited Paris--particularly since my French had an atrocious Joual/Western Canadian tinge. We did find a couple of welcoming cafes and shops but they tended to be run by folks who had moved into Paris from the provinces.

This was a really interesting episode.

- The different social classes in Paris were portrayed.
- The cultural differences of Japan and France were showed.
- Yune naturally wanted to trust people but after Claude warned her, she began to distrust certain people. This shows how much she believes in Claude.
- Yune can be strong and stubborn but she can be vulnerable at times and she really relies a lot on Claude and Oscar.

Anyone started to ship Claude X Yune yet? (I know I did. :P)

Yune just had the classic, yet extreme case of culture shock. Everyone experiences this at least once when you go to a foreign land. I know her initial feelings well, and sympathize with her.

I wonder why Yune didn't ask for direction ...I actually trying to expect the reaction of how local will respond to foreign people.I not really sure is racism exist in Paris toward Japan in that era .

Well it was, but it was all made in absolute secrecy (because at that time, if the girl was single, her father/brother would defy the guy to a death duel, and if she was married, her husband would do the same. If she was a widow it would be considered a scandal on society, so everyone met in secret), not like Claude´s grandpa, who is very blunt. And it was not just in France, but generally in all Europe.

_Neeka said:

i believe no matter in which country i was born or Era, i would never ignore a little girl like Yune with a desperate face like she did. Its just cruel. The bad thing at that time is that every child was considered and treated as an adult. Children coming from poor families with 4 years old were already working or stealing T_T

(yes, iam a Victorian Era lover, loool).

Good portrayal of the cultural differences between France and Japan. Different priorities and ways of approaching people. She really has to adapt and learn how to see if someone's trustworthy or not. Many cute moments once again!

Because people despise Yune for being a loli not realizing that's she's a well developed female lead character. Also, that people can't enjoy a relaxing anime.

In any other anime I'd be shipping a particular couple by now. Not here. I wouldn't mind if there was some romance, I guess.
If not Yune, then Camille. :3

I'm sure that even Japanese people would ignore and run past a suspicious or eccentric looking person, though I'm not sure why Yune couldn't get through to the Parisians as they wouldn't have had any reason to ignore her. Could be they didn't hear her, she should've asked a second time, but louder. Europeans aren't cruel to the point of leaving a desperate little girl to her fate. I guess it is pretty frightening, especially if you're lost and Claude's warning didn't really help her case either. Also, all little kids run to their mothers when a stranger talks to them, I think that kind of shyness is pretty universal.

no. She is really 13 years old, it is said on the manga XD Claude also thought she was 10.

i guess the author wanted to portray not just the culture differences but also, the way an asian and a caucasian are different in body mass, Height and appearance.

Anyway, with or without romance, ill always love this anime~~~~ its simply amazing.
