I could've lived without Tooru returning for a day. It felt like it wasn't needed.
But I guess it was since Ryuu was the one who made it happen and Chii needed it as well.

I'm glad that she's finally over Tooru and realized that Ryuu is always the one there for her.
The end of the episode was good. No flashy bubbles or orchestral music. Just them two and the sea waves.

Also for the folks who say that there HAS to be a confession.
I dunno, but I think actions speak louder than words in this case.

The end of this episode I think is the most dramatic scene I've seen in all the series until now.

So Chizuru confesses to Tooru but gets the typical sibling type "i love you too" and it turns out he knew that she likes him.

Am I the only one who didn't cry this episode? I bawled like a baby last episode though.

Anyways, nice episode. Loved the flashbacks. Though I have to say, the animation was a little iffy towards the middle.

I wish I could get a hug from Ryuu. :<

im suprised tohru would drive 3+ hours just because ryuu called him (of course about chizuru)

nice little confession from chi, even though nothing happened, what do you expect? hes getting married.

ryuu looks emotionless but he can be kind and caring

Best moment on the whole series. This arc is also my favorite of the manga, so I'm glad that it turned out so well~

Not as hyped for next week though.

Does this mean he had feeling for her also and that in the end he accepted ryou was better? or he just said it to make a point to him?

Such a sweet episode but I was yelling 'kiss her, kiss her' by the end!!!! God damn this, I just know that Kimi ni Todoke will end with about a thousand threads left dangling. Erghh, frustrating... Why is the anime so scared of deviating from the manga?!!! /sigh

i think tooru thought chizu x ryuu would be a good match all along.... while he was walking with chizu, he pointed out how strong the relationship between chizu and ryuu is.... he wants her for a little sis!

Just as I was thinking, "This episode is really lacking," Chizu asks Ryu to comfort her. It still wasn't enough to save the episode from it's blandness. I really wanted Tohru to come out and say something, but he didn't.

I'm starting to think we won't get any resolve this season.

robbydesu said:
Well that's such a rudimentary way of looking at it..I don't see how she chickened out when she clearly confessed to Tooru regardless of the fact that she knew nothing was going to happen/get rejected. She was also able to do what she couldn't do before (which bothered her) and that was to congradulate Tooru. If Chizu's love is considered to be "weak", what in the world does that make of Sawako's love?

I was waiting for her to say, "No, I'm in love with you," instead of stewing in "I knew he'd say that." I think that would have made me feel better about the long boring walk they took, if I felt like that resolved or did something for Chizu. I can see why some people think it's enough, but I didn't. If she loved him so much I'd think she'd have opened herself up more to him. Especially if she's known him her whole life.

Yea I know what you mean...but I feel that she's being realistic here. I'll be a little unhappy if she had reacted in the "No, I love you" way. We've already seen various sides of her that displays her as a naive and brash sort of person. So it's nice to see another side of her that's sensible and that she's mature enough (to some extent) to be content with Tooru treasuring her as an older brother would. Not to mention she was able to gather what she had in her to congratulate him. At the end with Ryuu, we also saw how she was sorta doubting her love towards Tooru, "Maybe I DID only love him as if he was my brother" which might have affected the way she had responded....who knows. Besides, we already have Kurumi, we don't need another one XD

P.S. It's really nice to see and talk to you again, it's been a while eh?

I guess when you put it that way, it isn't that bad. I just felt like they were building towards something during that walk, and the confession was just anti-climactic.

As for Kurumi, I was going to mention how much I missed her in this episode. Really, her, Yano, and Ryu make this show exciting, and despite this arc being tangentially about him, I've been in a deficit of all three since the sports festival.

And it has been a while...we're still watching the same shows, but since I've warmed up to FMA, and we seem to agree for the most part on KnT...there's not much to say, I suppose, lol.

i agree that exhange between chizu and ryuu was very realistic. these characters have been remarkably consistent and avoided a lot of shoujo cliches... (example: i was madly in love with that guy, but whoever comforts me will do just fine.)

nonetheless, at such a "realistic" rate, it is hard to see how this will be resolved by the end of the season....

Good ending to this arc, Chizu is at least a bit over Tohru, Ryu is brutally honest some more. Plus there were some funny flash backs.

I have liked this focus on other characters but it will be nice to see us get back to the main relationship.

I have a feeling this season will leave Chizu's side story alone here on out, and focus back on Sawako. Actually, that only applies if there is a second season in the works.

Anyway, I agree a very bittersweet ending for Chizu, but anything else would have been awkward at this point imo.

Great episode. I loved how Ryuu's brother Tooru knew the entire time what was going on & did his best to make things nice and clear to Chizuru. I really saw the difference between the two brothers this episode. Ryuu is very blunt and honest, but his brother's approach was much smoother and subtler. The slow pacing of this arc worked for me, too. Everything played out in its own way.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH NOW THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Yes yes I didn't like this arc that much but this episode left me with awe and a smile in my face but unfortunately, Ryu didn't confess yet. When will he confess? There's like 4 episodes left and we didn't get to Sawako and Kazehaya part yet!

Okay so that scene between Ryu and Chi was just pure motherfucking beautiful. I loved how Chi cried in Ryu's shoulder while saying "Cheer me up.". Ryu hugging her back made it even more beautiful.

As for Tohru, I won't blame you since I think I know what you feel. You think of Chi as a childhood friend that's it. Too bad for Chi her first love rejected her but don't worry since Ryu is by your side. Also, I wonder why Tohru got suprised when Ryu called him "Aniki". Maybe that was the first time he called him that?

Great episode. :) LOVED the last bit, of course -- goes without saying, pretty much, no? And seriously, I really love Ryuu's seiyuu, whoever it is (I know I've heard him before in some other anime). Even though Ryuu didn't confess... even though Chizu confessed and got a predictable answer... this episode really showcased a lot of strong points about this show. The character development and interactions are both fantastic. :D

Next episode looks promising too... whee~!

Perhaps I've set my expectations too high because of the episode before this one. Because Jesus Christ, episode 20 was the best one I've seen in a loooong time in drama-series. I was wondering if the animators were able to make this episode as beautiful as the last one... and they succeeded for the most part in my opinion.

It's actually just two parts really, the trip down memory lane in the first half and a bit of the episode, and the RyuxChizuru at the end. First half was nice, almost fell of my chair when Chizu confessed to Toohru. Also had a little smile on my face when he explained why he said ''Chi!'' so much, even though I figured it out beforehand. It just made me smile just seeing it explained in solid anime.

Then, there was the second half. My God, my expectations were shooting through the roof, it wasn't normal anymore. I was begging so hard in myself that they could make this episode as good as the previous one. Chizu and Ryu sitting there in the night sky. Perfect setting to lift the episode to higher grounds. Finally, she bursts in tears. I did not, but I could feel that pain. Props for the voice actor of Chizuru, she can make screaming, laughing and crying all sound very good and real. Sawako came out of nowhere though, but her soothing voice finished it at the end. No real tear-jerkers in this episode, though I can understand that there are people who can get emotional by that ChizuxToohru scene and the end of course.

Personally, I think the episode before this one was better. But hey, Kimi ni Todoke is one hell of a ride altogether. Looking forward to the next episode, but now time for some sleep!

Wow. Just...wow. This is the only episode so far of this series that has actually got me feeling emotional. I can totally see why Chizuru is in love with Tohru <3

I lol'd when Ryuu called Tohru 'aniki', and tohru's reaction, heehee.

I like the story between Ryuu and Chizuru, as it's much deeper than that whole 'obviously like each other and they know it' aspect of Shouta and Sawako.
