THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Meh, series wasn't really my cup of tea. The animation was stylized as all get out, but the story just didn't really do much for me. :/

wtf did I just watch? What a waste of time. They took a basic premise and turned it into crap.

If the point of this was to "prove" BLAME!'s potential as an animation, it failed.

I loved the manga but this was just horrible.

Loved the artwork and the setting looked like Ergo Proxy and Cybertron to me
But if this was a promo to make an actually series out of it then there wouldn't be any money made out of it
Or it has to be some affection coming from the current airing "Knights of Sidonia"
created by the same author

I wonder why cyberpunk doesnt have its own genre it seems silly to me to just say its scifi mixed with mecha.

This was overall quite decent for a fan of the manga. The atmosphere was somewhat there and including Cibo was instant plus. ^_^

There was pretty much no story, but the scenes they chose from the manga were nice and evoked some feelings of nostalgia. Now I feel like re-reading Blame, goddamn it!

6/10.

Only extra log - collapsed data had some interesting thing regarding the silicon lifeforms , otherwise it was too dull.

Osts fitted & made the eerie strong atmosphere.
But got out more confused... Characters Cibo & Killy, silicon creatures, under vs above ground, city grows? Need to stop growing? Clones, some power source, explode? Folks searching for a net terminal gene...
Mostly slideshow of nice artwork, very short bits of nice animation.

I have no idea what this was about and to be fair they did warn us. I want the full version of that thing. Sadly it doesn't exist
If you are going to disagree with me, don't bother talking to me. I will seriously hurt you!

Very strange anime I must say, I wonder what the newly announced movie will be like... but well in general it was okay, I liked the atmosphere but disliked the lack of proper development!

OK. That happened. I'm assuming they blow there already limited budged on the last episode, because 90% of the episode is the guy just sitting there. With the girl blabbing a loud of nothing at him.

I'm only on the second volume but am I the only one who finds it weird that the main character only used his overpowered gun once in all 6 episodes?

Alright .... this was something else.
I basically got what the synopsis told us but that's about it.

I'm guessing the manga did a way better job at explaining or even showing what the purpose of the story is, not that it needs a purpose persé but at least something.

Hoping the Blame movie will fulfill that need.

I guess the positives of this short ONA show was the sound and overall vibe it had, definitely felt cyberpunky / post apoc.

"Note: These clips are meant as a bonus to the manga, and should only be taken as such. Do not expect any plot in these. They are merely animated (short) scenes from the manga."

Ah, this explains it.
Still... I feel like they could have saved their efforts and made a 30 min short with some cohesive story that at least introduced you to the setting and characters. The most I gathered that it was a dystopian society which reminded me a lot of Texhnolyze. Humans seem uncommon and overrun by robots (?). Killy and Cibo talk about Net Terminal Genes (?). I guess they are trying to connect to save the few humans left but Cibo doesn't have all their memories of Killy (???).

I have no fucking clue. I'm pretty decent at combing through metaphorical and philosophical heavy content, but this was just bad.

2/10, only for the interesting use of color and music

This log is one of my favorites part of the manga and they... changed it in a way I don't know if it's right. They cut the part where Killy reads the book and asks "what is land?" (probably to just not hire a voice actor for Killy). They also made the girl Cibo, which is just ???
They made her look like Ayanami Rei and I like it

As someone barely familiar with the manga from my youth, one that always seemed too heavy and joyless for my liking (that kind of 'ohh I'm reading this artsy pseudo-philosophical cyberpunk manga, don't understand shit, bet it'll make me appear so intelligent' vibe), I decided to try this, and it was still able to keep me interested.
Loved the soundtrack, animation is static but with an appropriately outerwordly, oppressive feel. Art-wise it's highly faithful and the music fits the sci-fi atmosphere perfectly. The plot is confusing and near to being non-existent, and characterization is paper-thin, but same goes for the source material. Super short - yes, it's really like a promo for the manga, not a big waste of time; experimental/pointless - again duh, I'd expect it to be; and far better than the other two abysmal ova/ona.
So why the hate?

watching, waiting, commiserating
