Publishing company TO Books announced an anime adaptation of Biyori Harunohi's Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival (The Otome Heroine's Fight for Survival) light novel on Friday.

Harunohi began penning the adventure fantasy series on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in March 2019. TO Books began publishing the novel in April 2021, featuring illustrations by Yuu Hitaki (Fuguushoku "Kanteishi" ga Jitsu wa Saikyou Datta). The eighth volume went on sale last June, with the ninth volume planned for a January 15 release. The light novel has a cumulative 400,000 copies of its volumes in print.

Kobato Wakasa began drawing a manga adaptation on the Comic Corona website in August 2021. TO Book will also publish the sixth volume on January 15.

J-Novel Club licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English for digital release in November 2023 and January 2024, respectively. The third novel volume went on sale on November 8 last year, with the fourth volume planned for a February 21 release. The second manga volume was released last June.

Synopsis
Orphaned by a monster attack on her village, young Alicia spends three horrid years in an orphanage before finally running away. When she flees, however, Alicia has a violent encounter with an older woman hell-bent on killing her. During their tussle, she comes into contact with a strange crystal that bestows upon her a wealth of knowledge, transforming her from an innocent child into a cool and calculated planner.

Now aware that she was meant to be the protagonist of an otome game and disgusted with her supposed fate, Alicia decides to take matters into her own hands and become strong—by any means necessary. Using her newfound knowledge, and with some help from a stranger she meets in the woods, she learns to survive by herself in a world far too harsh and unforgiving for a girl her age. Ready or not, she's determined to carve her own path. (Source: J-Novel Club)

Looks like it's not just battle shonens who are going through an edgy phase. Seriously, the synopsis sounds like something out of a survival horror game.

Honestly, that's an interesting premise for such an over-saturated genre. The illustration looks great as well. I haven't seen the source material, so I would like to ask if it actually does anything with this premise.

Guess we'll wee when a PV comes out.

This one is closer to a battle shounen than a straight otome game style story.

The bones are the beginning of an otome game but the protag immediately jumps into a straight fight for survival type situation right in the first few pages.

I am looking forward to seeing how they end up telling this particular story. it is more action packed than a lot of the other To Books series, like Bookworm, Weakest Tamer, or Tearmoon, so I hope they are able to secure a decent animation studio for the fight scenes. Especially considering how raw some of them get. I also hope they don't tone down how brutal the world is and how some of the fights are. It is not a kind world and that is one of the draws of the series.

@RobertBobert Fundamentally this one is more of a battle shounen isekai than a shoujo isekai romance, but with a female protag, and a very big female cast majority (surprisingly, very low on fanservice, and also unsurprisingly, has some degree of yuribait).

Lots of fights, tears, blood and deaths. The "Otome Game" in the title is gonna take lots of anime-onlyies who go full on blind to a jumpscare show on episode 1.

@tragedydesu This is not so much a tag as it is another speculation on content, where people vote on certain things depending on their subjective feelings. Not to mention that Anilist is generally notorious for such things (to the point that someone might just ship her with her adoptive mother). So personally, I wouldn't take their word for it without reading the LN myself. Judging by the tags in general, they put it there in the first place because the MC is pretending to be a man. Another conversation, tag shoujo ai on noveluptades. But I'm too lazy to read the fan translation that stopped a year ago to check it out.

@Fabris So, several resources gave this the yuri and shoujo ai tag just because of some yuri bait in the all-female cast? How classic, lmao. That's not my cup of tea, though, so I'll probably just take a look at it once it airs. I wonder why they market this as an otome game, lmao.

@EcchiGodMamster Don't worry, judging by the manga most of the enemies are still "stupid males" lmao. I still don’t understand what the difference is, but if it’s so important to you that you even count how many men and women there are in the show...

I believe this adaptation will be interesting, depending on certain aspects they could improve the original quite a lot in my opinion.

@tragedydesu If you hate real gay people, why do you jerk off to yuri? Genuine question, and don’t back out and ignore this.
