I consider this anime one of the best made in its sector, it has everything: excellent animations, good music, interesting characters, intriguing story ... it reminded me a lot of the first seasons of Aot and the promised nerverland which were also fantastic to watch, but then why is this work so little famous? Aot and Tpn when they were released immediately obtained a great following and great success while Heavely Delusion instead was not as acclaimed as it should, and I don't understand why ๐Ÿ˜•

Well it came out in an extremely stacked season, but most of the opinions on it are positive from what I've seen and it's far from unknown

Disney is the reason, they have so many great anime titles that are exclusive to Hulu/Disney+ but they don't tell people about them, thus making them all fail to get any attention. it's very rare that a series from them gets a new season. in fact it only started happening this year with" ishura," go go loser ranger", "mission Yozakura family", "undead Unluck", and "Tokyo revengers"

Maybe because it has transgender theme (boy in female body) and lots of people seem to dislike anything LGBT related.

Popularity wise it did worse because it released on Disney+ and there was basicly no marketing for it/ they used the japanese name instead of the english name for western audiences.

It still managed to do decently.

It most likely won't or even if it gets it'll be a long time later. Monthly manga+ S1 was a passion project with some of the best freelance animators in the industry. Kinda similar to OPM S1. Not same lvl but close.

Exactly.... That's why I just usually start reading any series that I really love after the season ends. No sequel is usually the main problem for anime onlys.

It has zero trans themes. Trans is when you think you’re in the wrong body, this show actually had someone in a different body, something impossible and doesn’t happen in real life.

But I’ll agree that people thinking that it does have trans themes is very off putting if still ignorant

The MC also thinks he's in the wrong body (because he is), so there's little difference to real trans people, they feel the same has happened to them.

It was very popular when it was airing. I thought it as my most favourite new anime of 2023 but later that year I changed my mind when Frieren started airing. But I partially agree with you. Now it has become underrated and nobody barely talks about it. I mean it was obvious because after it finished airing, no news about its sequel, no marketing about merch and no updates. It is like it literally became a ghost after airing.

I never heard of this anime, so it's gotta be because of the lack of promotion. I discovered it while scrolling on Hulu and was hooked after episode 1.

It's a shame because, like you said, this anime has the full package: beautiful art style, plot, character development, gorgeous music, etc., yet it's barely known. I hope we get a season 2.

Btw it hasn’t been confirmed or denied, usually a sign that points to lack of source material.

My guess there will 100% will be a SE2 in 2026

The stopping point wasn't great. I find it harder to recommend because I know people that are sensitive to the subject matter in the last episode because that kind of stuff isnt uncommon and there's very little time at the end for the characters to process what happened.

I remember it feeling kind of off when they got in the car smiling and the ED started playing (it makes sense for them to try to smile/tough it out but the vibes were just very off at that moment and not in like a good way)

obviously it's very impactful on both of the main characters, and I feel everything up to the end was done very well, just needed a little more to really let it sink in and process. It wouldn't really be much of a problem if there was a season 2 out

I have a hard time evaluating how good the rest of the show would be for anime onlys but I personally adore it and do wish it was more popular.

It seemed like it was really well received but didn't have as broad of a reach as other big shows. So I'm mostly gonna blame Disney. idk how well it sold in Japan though

also check out summertime render

summertime render deals with same situation as heavenly delusion, it was aired on Disney+ ( not on tv) and was never promoted enough

just like heavenly delusion it has an incredible storyline, great character and is very beautifully animated, in fact the story is complete unlike heavenly delusion

A lot of great anime aren't popular. And if it became more popular, people would pop up out of nowhere calling it overrated.

Also that "meeting" that happens is really wild. I dropped my score from a 10 to 9 because of what that show was requesting from us as an audience. It would be pretty shocking if an anime that goes to "those" kind of places end up super popular. People are still shook up over Nina from FMA and a certain part of Valvrave. You give the average anime viewer wayyyy too much credit.

Lastly, I'm glad this anime didn't end up like World Trigger or Radiant. A lot of anime never recover from filler, and the ones that do never recover the fans they had before. Even Bleach couldn't pull off the filler shenanigans in this day and age and still be respected. I'd say look at it like Golden Kamuy. The new season will come when the studio has enough material to make a season worth watching. If it doesn't, treat it like Dark Gathering and go read the manga.

Poor marketing and advertising (no surprise since Disney had the distribution rights, same happened with undead unluck, the only anime that has survived their intentional incompetence is Bleach, and it's just because, I mean, it's BLEACH)

I do not see it as LGBT, it's literally a boy's brain stuck in a beloved one's body. And as the story progresses he just keeps acting more and more as a girl so idk, he ends up embracing his female body, the mangaka didn't really care to bring any trans rep to the table at the end, I know cus I once read a random in reddit that was pointing that out lol, reserving myself to the second season ๐Ÿ˜ˆ, first season was majestic.
