Well it was quite bad and disappointing, it his related to the Lodoss anime so i was expecting better
Interesting style (though getting a fourth type of Ashram/Pirotess drawings is a lot), and it's decently animated as a movie. Music was okay, though the ending was weird and the inserted Save my Love sounded good and had some effect where it was placed but it came out as weird too (still, the scene was great even if very classical).
The Lodoss story in the Forceria universe being fully closed, we get to see the epilogue of the Marmo survivors through a fully new story of a young man seeking power. It was both interesting as a conclusion to the known characters and Marmo's runaways and as an exhibition of more mythological elements of the whole world. Too bad the "hero"s story was uninteresting on its own.
About Ashram and his peoples, it was sad to see that even if the Lord kind of succeeded in his ultimate task, it was only to have the Marmo's descendants serve as slaves. At least, now, they're free!
(and it's great to learn that he was able to repress the God's will for three centuries, buying peaceful times for the colony)
I was sure Soul rusher would be the final tool in the god's exorcism (since it served against Fury too).
Enjoyment: 3/5
Score: 6~7/10
I certainly hope to revisit the story as a novel, in order to get the most out of our famous couple (thoughts notably).
March 12, 2021 @St0rmblade There is a whole novels series set on Crystania, just like there is a series or two set on Araycrust (Louie for example) even though Lodoss got the main chunk (the 7heroes saga, the main original one, the new current one).
About the body, I think you're right about its inconvenience for Barbas.
And yes, totally futile since it can't rely on the Lodoss name as much as the initial saga, that is already a very hard sell in our countries. The best choices you can get in terms of Mizuno's novels in the West are:
- the unfinished 2005-2009 french edition for the original series (only 4 tomes out of 7, meaninng it stops after the Mountain),
- the complete 2001-2010 italian edition (with ugly covers) for the same series (but it is impossible to import them, even to a neighbouring country like France!),
- the stupid Seven Seas deluxe edition of The Grey Witch (so, yes, the first novel on its own at a high price, all in red ink à la Neverending Story).
Even the Grancrest series (nothing to do with Lodoss) only got its manga published despite the relative success of the simulcasted anime series...
Sorry for rambling, I'm so disappointed. (Three times, my hopes were raised. Three times, I was let down.)
PS: if you want, you can keep asking Seven Seas toacquire the other novels then Crystania and more through their monthly poll/survey. Like they offered me to do when I decided to ask when the further volumes would be released (one year after the first one). XD
Cool setting, better animated spells, nice idea with shapeshifting...and another Guts-like swordsman? Well, that was lovely, if short (and a bit too slow to get into the "main" part of the film, that is, before the crossing of the wall). I wouldn't mind a series based on this world.
I wonder how that one tiger soldier managed to capture 4 members of the main party. And why did Barbas seek a new body? Was he not satisfied with Ashram because of his strong soul, seeking to possess someone weaker?
Our dark elf was not so dark most of the times...And she seemed definitely weaker than in Lodoss times.
Pretty rough around the edges, but had charm to it. The setting was pretty cool, a forbidden place inhibited by Gods and their followers, right in the middle of a civil war. Good choreographed action scenes I must say. Needed more time to really flesh out the anime.
