if you're watching Natsume for the Plot then you're doing it wrong.

it's an Iyashikei anime, every Ep is Episodic as you know and they're Entertaining as you said.
and that's the way.
the story of the Book and his Grandma sure is interesting and I also want to see it unfold but we have to wait until the author decides to stop.

and about the page of the book that's not our concern 🗿

@past_feelings i get it, it's just.. the latest anime release was 2018 you know?
it takes 6 years (which is for me long enough) to release a new season of the anime

are we going to make it to the last episode :))

Episodic series, go with the flow, if you're that interested in reading it for the story progress then try catching up with the Manga and see if that scratches your itch. >_^

I was just gonna ask “there’s an overall story arc?” I love that this show is so episodic, I get to check in with Natsume and friends and I know everything will be resolved in 20 mins. Beautiful palate cleanser and has become one of my faves

This is not an anime that really has a linear plot

I'm surprised by the sheer number of people saying there's no linear plot or story progression.

As far as I could tell from the PV for this season, quite a bit has been and will be revealed about the book of friends and world of exorcists and youkai. I figured it was pretty obvious that Midorikawa progresses the story bit by bit rather than doing a continuous dump of information or elongated scenes of exposition. Even the prior seasons and the movie followed that formula; we watch Natsume grapple with his involvement with a side of his life he's been trying to avoid for most of his years while maintaining a lasting relationship with the people currently in his life. And in the midst of doing all of that, we'll typically see something new being found out, or personal progression being made on Natsume's end.

Progression is there, and there's a linear plot. It's slow, but it's there. It may be more apparent to the general population with this season and the current place the manga is at though.

I don't care. I'll watch anything Natsume Yuujinchou related and love it. Real comfort show.

I will be discussing what has happened in s7 so far. I'll try to be as brief as possible, but there will be spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the season yet :)

There has been some subtle progression. Though not as much as less episodic shows.

Episode 6

Episode 3

Episode 7

General progression

If anyone knows how to tag spoilers I'd love to know

You need to type [spoiler] then add your text and at the end type [/.spoiler] ("." Is not needed. Just type /spoiler at the end.
Result will be this:

@aroelsfc ''are we going to make it to the last episode''?... Dude, we don't even have a last manga chapter. Why would you even worry about the end of the anime when the manga is ongoing and with no estimate as to when it will end?

Also, 6 seasons should have been enough for you to figure out this story's dynamic. If all you wanna see is names being returned then this show/manga isn't for you anymore.

@aroelsfc I know this is probably annoying to hear, but read the manga if you want to know how it progresses that badly……

Well people are brutal here, this show not for u , we have the absolute right to criticize coz we are aware of the current format as to how it gets released. Well even u , the op , clearly mentioned in ur post that you are also aware of the format.

Even I had the same question, it is just general curiosity and the aim is to start a discussion with like minded people , but u get non like minded people stating the obvious many a times over adding nothing substantial to it. Shows the lack of awareness.

I get you op , you just wanted speculations from others as to what would happen and discuss it.

Now staying on track to the topic u asked, I think it might take a couple more years like maybe 4 or 5 to get more info on Reiko and maybe the end could show Natsume still continuing on giving out names coz we don’t know for how long Reiko collected those names and up until what age in her lifetime.

Well I am not good with recalling things , but ig we have not seen an older version of Reiko other than the school girl. Here is what I would like but seems unlikely, I want a closure on Reiko’s story and get to know her in her older days through Takahashi kun and he can continue with the book of friends. We can have Reiko’s flashbacks as well as to how she felt , as knowing her story makes the flashbacks even more beautiful. At least we can know whom she married and how Natsume came into being.
Thank you if u read it so far.

I think this is more of a comforting slice of life, rather than a plot, story-based, character-development type of anime. Most of the progress might be related to Natsume learning more about Reiko
I think this is something that may be discussed later on (I haven't read the manga). Might come down to personal taste though, it's an absolute feel-good piece of art for me, but might not be appealing to some.
