Not pointing to MC this applies to all of characters, the author doesnt seem to believe in love between childhood friends. Yes many characters have childhood friends
So maybe it will be a spoiler but-

They are big helpers to eachother in story altho.
Edit: They literally call eachother childhood friends why are ppl here in misinfo o0??

This is not quite a romance anime, but more like a sports one. MC is well defined, but I would like to see better interaction with Chinatsu.

Bullshit. There's little focus on sports and a lit of focus in the character's feelings. Sports are just a pretext for the romance.

Just because the person did something before, doesn’t mean they will continue to do something in everything.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@ejleon what ? I said they are doing this to everyone and you are doing philosophy in front of evidence, should you really ?

So?

If he doesn't that would at least make his story different than 90% of Romance-Anime, out there. That's something.

Well… they aren’t really “childhood friends” tho? They were classmates, always were.

Maybe that’s your opinion. It’s true that this anime is also focusing on feelings of the characters, but the sport is there too.

So far, the relationship between Chinatsu and Taiki did not advance further. They still seem to be confused about this.

I mean we are only on Episode 6 of 24 so there is still time to build up their relationship and personally I’d rather see a gradual build up rather than it be rushed but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

@Destined321 I am just expressing an opinion, not a philosophy, calm yourself down and stop acting so uncontrolled at something as irrelevant as my personal opinion

Have you ever heard that people subconsciously perceive childhood friends as surrogate siblings and therefore childhood friends in many cases are perceived by us through the same prism as siblings? And yes, too many conclusions based on one story.

@OtakuKun1 It's what I said, sports are just a pretext for the romance. Taiki realistically only is fired up to get to the nationals because he wants to eat some

What I mean is, you could discard the scenes where the MC is playing badminton, but not the aquarium scene. You see, Taiki winning the match was just a pretext for them going to the aquarium.

In the end, this show is just kind of pretentious, bullshitty, unrealistic; but it's fun to watch somehow.

This is one of the more realistic high school romance animes recently. How is it pretentious? Dude has a crush and is trying to do all he can to make it a reality even though he’s shy. It’s not like Taiki is a slouch or a super cringey MC where you wonder why anyone would be interested in him. Oh, and neither Chinatsu or Hina are tsunderes.

I’ve just watched that hard for an otaku to love and went on to read some of the manga. And that’s one instance I be seen where it does happen. They start dating cos it’s convenient as they’re both weebs but it’s more about the FL slowly falling in love with the ML who already loves her. She doesn’t look at him that way in the beginning as they’re childhood friends but as she slowly starts to get to know parts of him she never knew before her preferences and how she sees him changes. Only one I can think of tho 😂

@MegamiRem Perhaps, but the unfortunate childhood friend is a fairly well-known cliché in romance anime. We even have a separate show about it lmao.

@RobertBobert It's a pretty common trope yes but he wasn't talking about that. He mentioned about how the author of this anime/manga doesn't like childhood friend romance and I can see why he'd think that. Can't elaborate cause spoiler.

@MegamiRem I didn't say he meant it. I mentioned this as an example of why this is not necessarily an intentional sign. And even if that's the case, the author could very well have just used it as a mirror of the MC's relationship with his childhood friend.

He made a generic storyline by being cliche about every Childhood friend in anime losing, EVERY lol this plot is same as 90% of anime out there BUT problem instead is author isnt fond of every childhood friend.(NOT SAYING All Childhood friend must win all time)

Also robert nope you cant see Childhood friends as siblings, you have to live and sleep in same house, room with any human to identify them as siblings/sister.
Okay funny thing Chinatsu lives with MC and their entire home relations is like siblings too which puts me off as big brother.

Nah. Most Shows DO actually portray this whole Childhood thing as something sacred and true, romance wise.

@Destined321 You are describing an extreme example, although at the same time the Westmark effect is a fairly well-known and studied thing. Also, didn’t you think that the author, on the contrary, wanted to use the desacralization of romance between childhood friends as one of the themes of the story as a whole?

@RobertBobert taiki lives with chinatsu and both are still kids. Chinatsu was with taiki as kids too. Westemark effsct applies to her there more than Hina who didn't even live with mc

@Merve2Love
Gotta check date being 2024, you are talking about stuff from 2010 which is long gone. Anime isnt like that childhood thing as sacred and true anymore. Japan is dumping on that genre bruh, I am not gonna describe in detail but if you read JP Lnovels yknow.

@Destined321 The Westmark effect involves people who grew up together from early childhood, not just living together as children. For example, if you are 15-20 old and you have lived with this person since kindergarten.

@KietaTeenRomance You know, Blue Box is based on the original manga by Kouji Miura. It wasn’t created by a different studio—the author designed it to balance the sports and romance elements. The manga was adapted into an anime co-produced by Telecom Animation Film and TMS Entertainment.

Pretentious and bullshitty but "sometimes fun"? I think it portrays the interpersonal stuff excellently, what makes you think it's shitty?. It's obviously not a sports anime but sports is a major theme.
