This is one of the more realistic high school romance animes recently. How is it pretentious? Dude has a crush and is trying to do all he can to make it a reality even though he’s shy. It’s not like Taiki is a slouch or a super cringey MC where you wonder why anyone would be interested in him. Oh, and neither Chinatsu or Hina are tsunderes.

He made a generic storyline by being cliche about every Childhood friend in anime losing, EVERY lol this plot is same as 90% of anime out there BUT problem instead is author isnt fond of every childhood friend.(NOT SAYING All Childhood friend must win all time)

Also robert nope you cant see Childhood friends as siblings, you have to live and sleep in same house, room with any human to identify them as siblings/sister.
Okay funny thing Chinatsu lives with MC and their entire home relations is like siblings too which puts me off as big brother.

Also, didn’t you think that the author, on the contrary, wanted to use the desacralization of romance between childhood friends as one of the themes of the story as a whole?

@RobertBobert taiki lives with chinatsu and both are still kids. Chinatsu was with taiki as kids too. Westemark effsct applies to her there more than Hina who didn't even live with mc

What I mean is, you could discard the scenes where the MC is playing badminton, but not the aquarium scene. You see, Taiki winning the match was just a pretext for them going to the aquarium.

In the end, this show is just kind of pretentious, bullshitty, unrealistic; but it's fun to watch somehow.

Pretentious and bullshitty but "sometimes fun"? I think it portrays the interpersonal stuff excellently, what makes you think it's shitty?. It's obviously not a sports anime but sports is a major theme.
