Dandadan Episode 1 Discussion

Absolutely phenomenal to see one of my favorite mangas on the big screen, and to any one who is thrown off by all the weird sexual stuff.

IT GETS TONED ALL THE FUCK DOWN, there is still a little fan service every once in a while, but all the rapey shit practically evaporates pretty quickly.

Starting off a story by getting both of the main characters sexually assaulted was definitely a choice...
Other than that, the dialogue was humorous, and the art style is really nice to look at. All I can say, is I hope the sexual innuendos and fan service become more tasteful (at the very least).

I feel like newer animes and mangas focus on almost sexual scenes to push sales and story. Same with chainsaw man's manga.

i hate the fanservice but otherwise it was really fun. why does fanservice of teenagers always present in anime? its disturbing. i wish that the characters were adults if they were going to incorporate a r-rated sense of humor.

@orekimew I couldn't agree more. It was so weird to see robot d!ck and a stripped teenager and implications of r@pe in the first episode. I'm not like 15 anymore; this isn't "edgy", or making a statement; it's just pointless shock value. I'm struggling to finish this pilot episode. I wish I had just started the Ranma 1/2 show instead. This was disturbing that really soured any impression of wanting to watch more.

watched that scene and it felt weird to see that as someone older than her. it felt like I was watching porn 💀 I feel most men just don't care about that part or actually enjoy it which is gross. a guy I know said to ignore it because apparently it 'gets better' and the sexualization ends there but it shouldn't be this way in the first place :/ women shouldn't have to be so sexualized in the first and they shouldn't have to just accept it as a fact of life and told to get over it! it's enraging. I wish more anime could be like attack on titan which actually treats its women characters like people and doesn't do the weird sexualing crap. I did watch more but there was another weird scene and I moved on to something better. I don't really like the characters too I don't know how this is good 😭 hope ranma is good though

@orekimew I actually did stop with 9 minutes remaining and started Ranma 1/2 instead. There was some nudity there, but no insinuations of r@pe or robotic d!cks -- that was just tasteless; and I'm not 13, 15 or 17 anymore. Shows should care about the impression they make on viewers. I think people in their late 20's or early/mid 30's are just going to walk away a bit disgusted. Admittedly, anime isn't really for my age-group anymore.

It varies, but generally the tropes are to appeal to a teenage male audience. I immediately lost interest when it became clear what sort of scene it was and the fact that not only was she stripped, she was completely helpless. I just immediately sort of thought, "What the !@#$?" The nerdy side-protagonist didn't even bat an eyelash either. I enjoyed The Apothecary Diaries a bit this past year, and may have to return to it at some point!

Ranma is a bit of a comedy which does rely a bit on light-nudity (initially) as it's a bit of a gender bender. When Ranma is splashed with cold water he turns into a girl and turns back with hot water; so there's all sorts of silly shenanigans that come into play. It is an arranged marriage, so I'll have to see how I feel about that later on (or if it's more of a plot device that's never followed through upon). Time will tell!

@deg I am well aware but that doesnt excuse anything. It does not mean you're supposed to join. A kid is still a kid. That's a disappointing response.
