Finally a new day on the boat, and we finally learned what Halkenburg's ability is, and we now we know when the plan against Luzurus is going to take place! I totally forgot what this trial was even about honestly, but I wonder how many chapters it'll be til we see Fugetsu's plan in action. I don't think Halkenburg is dying so soon, but if he does I wouldn't complain honestly, gotta thin out the cast somehow.

I feel like Halkenberg is pulling all the strings here, Balsamilco is too suspicious since we didn't get to see what really happened after Halkenberg shot the Nen arrow, but I like how Togashi is keeping it up in the air right now for suspense
And now we have confirmation that he is 1st Queen's son and being protected to some degree
It seems Kurapika will soon fully get involved in the Succession War!

As nice as it is to see Kurapika get screentime, I hope we see more of Hisoka soon, and what he's up to. And more Phantom Troupe stuff.

3 more chapters, and the Succession Contest arc will officially be longer than the Greed Island arc, which spanned 66 chapters, which will also officially make it the second-longest arc in Hunter x Hunter, after Chimera Ant arc.

on hindsight, Halkenburg's face looks exactly like the first queen

we still don't know if Halkenburg collapsed because he took control of Balsamiko Might or missed the arrow, it is left ambiguous

Can't wait for what Kurapika's next move

Good chapter.

Pieces continue to move!

Balsalmico is now under Halkenburg's power, possessed by him. He is clearly under stress from using it but if he does die he will probably move a really big piece right before he does.

I was just thinking it would be cool if Halkenburg won the succession war but it looks like now that isn't going to happen.

No surprise Tsereid didn't want to read the letter, Marayam couldn't read it because I'm pretty sure his room is still in that alternate dimension lol???

Now Kurapika wants to go public with the letter at the next Nen class and Zhang Lei wants to talk to Kurapika more.

@Green_Giorno I've seen the idea on the subreddit that Tserriednich used his New ability to see 10 seconds into the future to read the letter, then threw it out, honestly I can see it

I hope Halkenburg doesn't actually die. He's such a cool character and his Nen Beast is also cool af. I wonder what Kurapika plans to do and if this trip really will end without a bloodbath. I don't believe that Tserriednich would stand for that.

I am convinced that Halkenburg is the son of Beyond and Unma, the first queen of Kakin, biological mother of Benjamin and Halkenburg and "mother" of "Tserriednich", has been working with him since Nasubi inherited the throne of Kakin, but why? In chapter 402, it is revealed by the Kaiser that the justice department discovered that Unma made a kind of deal with Queen Duazul, the second queen of Kakin, to protect Halkenburg from assassination attempts by her older brothers. However, why did she only do this with Halkenburg, but not with Tserriednich? And why does she have this favoritism with the ninth prince and not with Benjamin, the first prince of Kakin?

- First of all, Tserriednich is not her son, but Duazul's, and probably the deal she made with Duazul resulted in the exchange of the order of succession with Tserriednich, so originally the unpronounceable is the ninth while Halkenburg is the fourth!

- Secondly, it wouldn't make sense for the 1st queen not to favor Benjamin, he is the GENERAL of Kakin's army, instead of Halkenburg, Halk has many supporters in the kingdom, but nothing exceptional compared to the other older princes.

In this perspective, Benjamin has more influence and strength than his biological brother, unless... BEYOND is helping him because HE IS HIS SON. This information gives more legitimacy to this theory:

* In the initial chapters of this arc it is said that Beyond helped Nasubi win the war of succession, so, within Kakin, Beyond is the second with the most influence, only behind Nasubi himself.

* According to Longhi's assumption, Beyond infiltrated his children with curse marks to help those he is supporting.

* Each curse is directed at a prince, we can deduce this from this speech by Longhi "Beyond didn't know how many princes he would have in the succession, so with each birth of a prince he made several children with these marks".

* The rental families are people who share the same political views as Beyond and most of them are high-ranking members of the Kakin kingdom.

* For Beyond to recruit so many people without Nasubi noticing his plan, he would have to have someone with a lot of influence to help him (that's where Unma comes in, helping to recruit all these people).

* Even though Halkenburg doesn't have any exceptional background (his history is only being the 2nd place in the archery world championship and having a degree in physics from the most prestigious university in the world of HxH), for some reason, he has many supporters in the army and justice branch of the Kakin kingdom (I suspect that, don't I? lol). For those who don't know, the most powerful princes all have an external force supporting them: Benjamin (Kakin royal army), Tserriednich (Heil-Ly Mafia), Luzurus (Cha-R Mafia) and Zhang Lei (Xi-Yu Mafia).

* In the chapter. 350, Halkenburg posted on Facebook that Tserriednich is the only one of his brothers who sympathizes with him (perhaps Tserriednich knows about the dirty dealings that Duazul and Unma did because they have connections with the Mafia. Morena must know about this too and there is a high chance that all her hatred for Tse and Kakin is because even though she is Nasubi's biological daughter she was excluded from the royal court while Tse, a child of the Heil-Ly family, is there in the royal dispute).

Something that reinforces this was in this chapter,403.On the page where Unma appears, behind her there is a room where there is a maid in front of a crib with a mobile, as if there was a baby there. So why the hell is there a baby in Unma's room? Because it is Beyond's son who the curse is aimed at killing Prince Wobble! The timing matches perfectly with Wobble's birth, it can't be a coincidence. So, what would be the justification for Unma having a baby in her office other than the reason she is working with Beyond? The baby is not hers, otherwise he would have to be in the succession war too (or maybe this is actually Benjamin's secret that Kaiser also mentioned, this child could be Benjamin's son). And this leads to another point: who Beyond asked to see in chapter 401 could have been Unma and it must have a lot to do with this child!

Missing out on peak fiction writing, sorry to hear that this content is not for you

this chapter alone was balls to the wall so good, I can't comprehend what else is in the hat for us readers to enjoy

Togashi is the GOAT and this chapter proved that he still got it, I was a bit disappointed with 391 to 400 but finally we are back on track with moving the plot forward big steps

The mafia / Troupe subplot is good, don't get me wrong, but I find the Succession main plot to be so much more interesting

@Rifle Easy there buddy, I won't go as far as to call it "peak fiction writing" because it's not, but I do respect your opinion about it.

Whenever I feel like reading a wall of text I will simply look elsewhere, I'm reading a manga here not a VN, and this shitty arc feels like I'm reading a VN and I'm not the only one complaining, I didn't sign for any of this crap in HxH, this arc is way too boring and I don't care about 95% of those random NPCs either since all of them suck so reading this crap with random boring NPC isn't my cup of tea.

But I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Three questions from my side before I leave this conversation

You did read or watched Chimera Ant Arc?

If you did, did you enjoy that?

If yes, what were you thinking about all the new ant and human characters which were developed quite deeply?

@Rifle I didn't read the Chimera Ant Arc in the manga, but I did watch the anime and it was ok, I'm not an HxH fan or anything, it's just a 7/10 anime IMHO but at least I did have some fun with the anime somewhat, I've watched the Classic HxH and the New HxH so I'm mostly anime only in this franchise, I only started reading the manga from this arc and dear god, it's a pain, I don't know if the Chimera Ant Arc in the manga is as bad as this one with all that goddamn text but if it is, then chances are I won't enjoy it much either, and the art is kinda ugly too so it makes it even harder to read.

But that's not my only complaint about this arc anyway, my other complaint is that this arc doesn't seem to have any main characters in it, they are just random NPCs, these lame ass random NPCs have way more screentime than Kurapika too which is crazy, at least the Chimera Ant Arc had main characters in it and more interesting characters too, this arc doesn't have it, at least not for me.

I can't even root for anyone here because I don't care about any of those lame-ass NPCs, why are those shitty NPCs getting so much screen time? the Chimera Ant Arc was nothing like this, at least not in the anime, but I say enough is enough, just bring Hisoka back or something to make this shitty arc a tiny bit more interesting again.

Gon and Killua are out of the picture for this arc, but now you have Kurapika as the main character, so I don't really get this point regarding the MC issue you state.

The wall of text complaint is a bit subjective as I really enjoy reading the thoughts of all the players in this succession game. It's also not really unique to this arc. It provides context and builds tension from different point of views. If you ever have read a more complex fantasy book, like Song of ice and fire, you should feel right at home. I wouldn't really compare it to VNs as VNs tend to be way more straight forward.

The anime adaption of Chimera Ant was very faithful to the Manga.

Anyway, if you can't find enjoyment in this current arc, then maybe come back later then it's a bit more finished, but it will take a while for sure, probably up to 100 more chapters is my guess. Togashi is in this way too deep with all the new characters to drop this plotline soon.

@Rifle Yes, Kurapika is the main character, I'll grant you this one. However, he's barely getting any screen time, so it's almost like he doesn't even exist in this arc.

I say the mangaka is trying too hard to be complex with this arc for its own good so it's doing the complete opposite for me. Yes, the anime adaptation of the Chimera Ant was faithful to the manga and I had way more fun watching it than this arc, at least I could root for someone there, I can't root for anyone here since I just don't care about any of these lame-ass boring NPCs.

I do appreciate that you kept the conversation civil so I respect you for it.
