Will broke spells with his arms and legs in the show already

Unless you're talking about breaking free after being frozen in the tavern, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Will was unable to break through his teacher's defensive barrier without using his sword (which I believe was said to have dispelling properties). They didn't really cover how the sword Collette conjured compares to it, but perhaps it would be ineffective against shadow/water attacks (I'd doubt it could split/block fireballs the way it did against Sion, but I suppose it just works out somehow).

Will's tactics are only acceptable if his only goal is to humiliate Julius. If he truly wanted to win, letting the mage go on the offensive first is a no-no. Selfishly indulging himself to win a fight instead of the battle means betraying his team (Sion doesn't deserve winning though, and Collete doesn't seem to mind), and puts his dream of joining Elfie at risk (which is probably more important to him, deep down).

I thought when the Principle tested him, Will was able to break her spells with his feet and hands?

Am I wrong about this?

I was basing this off my memory of the episode, so I could be wrong.

I think Will was just distracted by being attacked over and over, first by Sion and then by Julius, not that he was too selfish or too proud.

I think Will honestly didn’t remember that to win the contest, the crown just needed to be taken.

Also, “… to humiliate Julius”, I have not seen Will as you described him in the show, so what are you basing that type of character on in the show?

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

A decent episode overall. Good combat sequences.

Not as exceptional as earlier (episode 2's) offering. But not bad in of itself.

This episode was certainly better than the last one, and seeing Will beat Julius was certainly satisfying. However, the fact that who won in the end was the elf was super predictable, as Will was taking his sweet time taking Julius out. Not only that, but he defeated one of the Ice clones with his leg, and wasn't that against the rules, since it's not magic? Anyways, they couldn't have given Will the win for plot reasons I suppose, so the elf got it by doing nothing I guess. How did Colette and Sion not see the Elf team approaching is behyond me.
Liked how Will was able to defeat Julius' magic quite easily, since he's the one that knows that magic the best, besides Elfaria herself. And it was cute when he said that 8 clones of Julius wasn't big of a deal, since he was bullied by 10 clones of Elfaria. We also got to see a bit more of Elfie's personality, and it was quite amusing.
Overall, it was a good episode with a really good fight scene (although the way Will escaped that ice prison was never explained), and it was better than the last episode for sure. Sion at the end saying he was going to defeat Will... For how much longer are they going to make Sion like that, it's getting tiring...
The next episode has an interesting title with "Shall we date?", but I wonder if it's going to be a good episode, since lately it has been 1 week a good episode, the next a bad one, but the next episode has the potential to explore more the characters, which might be really good, but at the same time I feel like the characters are the weakest part of this anime, so let's see how that goes.

Edit: Also, isn't it an exaggeration when they say that Elfie created that spell at 2 years old? Like, for real, she couldn't even talk at that age, and you're telling me she was doing this high value spells? If they said 8 years old would be more believable, but 2 years is just to insane to even be taken seriously.

Julius Reinberg was such an arrogant lad, how could he steal Elfaria’s ice magic? Will managed to defeat him, but it’s so disappointing that he did not claim the crown. Wignall was wiser.

Amazing battle between Will and Julius! His magic proved useless against Will’s sword. Ars Weiss was good, but only used by Elfaria. Now I expect Sion to be more powerful and evil, but I do not worry about Will’s determination.

@ejleon I don't remember that test, you might be right. As a cop out, I think it's reasonable to think that binding spells have a certain strength; needing a stronger spell to detain a hippo than a mouse. In which case, he could simply be stronger than the principal was accounting for. Again, he couldn't deal with the shadow magic without his sword.

As for the humiliation part, Will was seething from the way Julius disrespected the dwarves. A passive person can act out if pushed far enough, so even if it doesn't fit neatly with how he's been portrayed thus far, I don't think it's a stretch.
On the other hand, I guess one could argue that he simply tried to show him how much more competent he is at fighting and that magic doesn't necessarily trump everything else (avoiding complaints like luck or being caught off guard). But the way Will fought, letting Julius dictate the pace and simply defeating spell after spell did end up humiliating him, whether test was the plan or not.

Let's go Will! He not only defeated and humiliated Julius, but also broke his damn mind, amazing!

This has to be the hypest episode of the season, if not of the entire year so far!

I'm happy that Will didn't won the competition tho, I knew Wignall was going to end up winning, sadly he did it in a really pussy way lol, but that's fine because Will winning the most important competition on his 1st try would put him in the next level of OP protagonists and that's boring.

Damn I want Will to end up with Colette, but Elfie hasn't changed how I thought she did so she is really in love with him too, fuck... since this is from the same creator as DanMachi, I have faith in Colette, she deserves it ❤️

The episode we were all looing forward to.
Will was an absolute badass in this episode.
Loved how he put Julius in his place.
Too bad they didn't win, but he get his revenge.
Elfie just wanted Will to herself lmao, she wasn't tormenting him.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

And now will come the "popular" phase of our protag. Seriously lol, it's a good thing they didn't let him win the tournament, otherwise that would've been the cliche-est conclusion ever.

Btw, at least the guy who severely lacks in vocabulary and was thinking he's the real deal got what he fucking deserved.

Julius got hoe'd so hard. It really felt like Will only won because he happened to grow up at the exact same orphanage as Elphie.
I have read 2 perfect chapters of manga; They are Usogui Chapter 203 and Onani Master Kurosawa Chapter 23.
Slam Dunk Chapters 272 to 276 are a perfect stretch of manga.

Beautiful? LOL Narcissistic much isn't he?

Getting schooled by the only no-talent, book learner is so much justice. I can feel his teeth cracking when he started grinding them in rage that he's being humiliated instead! He keeps raising the stakes only to be smacked down hard in each turn...he knows how to use Elfie's invented magic unfortunately it was made when Elfie was only 2 years old, and he can control eight clones when the inventor can control ten when she made it!

Hah, I predicted he wouldnt get the crown despite beating Julius to the moon and back and I was right. Oh well, I think the original intention of joining the game was that they beat each other out and not the game itself so it's still Will's win in the end.

I don't trust Wignall, he looks kind enough but I have a feeling in deep in my bones that I can't explain when he had that look.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

PEAK EPISODE OMG! The choreography in the final part of the fight was insane! Wistoria, The Elusive Samurai, and Alya-san are definitely the best-animated shows this Summer 2024. The part when Will was falling from the sky was insane! It's the best episode so far!

I loved this episode. Will thoroughly humiliated Julius which was satisfying to see.
It's impressive that Julius managed to learn one of Elfaria's spells but Elfaria is much more amazing. Creating new spells when she is still a toddler is insane.
I never get tired of an opening song playing during the climax of a big fight.

Idk I enjoyed this episode but not as much as the others. Will explain his friend lore is crazy. She's been creating new spells since she was 2 years old. Yet people struggle to imitate what she has been doing since she was 2🤣🤣. She is in a league of her own.

At what age are Magia Vander chosen? Elfaria was chosen when she was younger than she currently is, but Julius was thought to be her successor? How does that work? How long has Elfaria been a Magia Vander? It couldn't have been for that long. What exactly do you even need to do to become one? I know they have to face some other trials after school, but like idk this feels a bit off...

That last punch was pretty satisfying lol the way it ended was kinda BS though :/

Excellent episode, I really like Elfie even though we have seen very little of her.
The animation already seems very good to me, in this episode it was elevated more along with the music.
A little bit sorry for Julius, he felt great with his new ability but the original did it with 2 years old with more clones and better quality haha
Applied Wignall: sometimes the best strategy is to do nothing haha
