Definitely improved in the second half (OP/ED included) and a decent watch if you're bored, but never impressive aside from the animation.
With more dark moments and without the shitty fanservice and comedy, giving more depth and screentime to supporting characters instead of useless moe girls, it could have been more than dumb shounen fun.

The amount of daddies tho. That alone can make me watch the second season.

Captain Burns showed off even more of that fire force experience and skill against Shinra this episode. It's great to see the difference in ability and how much Shinra's grown from their last duel.

The truth behind Shinra's childhood disaster was interesting. Sho was fated to gain his powers, the white clad just used it as an opportunity to steal him away and infernalize his mother. I'm still curious on why the evangelist needed to do that to his mom though. I also can't tell if it's good or bad that she seems to have retained her sentience as an infernal. I'm hooked on this plotline with Shinra! It'll be excellent to see how it gets resolved.

After watching the first season, it seems that I was missing out on Fire Force. The premise of a society dealing with people randomly turning into fire monsters was a great one. The show had a lot of nice reveals that kept fanning the flames of my curiosity as the story continued. Obi turned out to be my favorite character with him being a self-sacrificing motivational mentor type. This show has given me the realization that I find those types of characters to be charming. Also interesting plot developments like Shinra suddenly reading Giovanni's mind with his legs, or the massive power jump with Sho vs Shinra fighting at speeds faster than light were excellent jaw-dropping moments in my opinion. I'm excited to dive right into season 2.

And that’s it for my rewatch of Fire Force Season 1 nearly 6 years later, I can’t believe Summer and Fall 2019 were that long ago man… time flies tho, much like Shinra does lol. But yeah this was such a good rewatch, so much nostalgia that burns as hot as the flames in this show, back then it became one of my favorite shounens of all time, and it still is after the rewatch, and that’s just after the first season lol.

And this final episode was such a strong one to end on, it doesn’t just answer the questions about the fire that took Shinra’s family, it also gave us a short but awesome fight against Captain Burns, as well as goofiness between the current alliance against the Evangelist within the 8th, a really good mix of seriousness and hilarity, it’s perfectly balanced imo. And man the stuff with Shinra’s mom just gets me so mad, the way the Evangelist and the other white-clad just toy with innocent lives for the sake of their self destructive goal, and the fact Shinra’s beautiful mother became like that… it just makes me want to see Shinra kick the Evangelist in the face lol, another reason I’m so hyped for Season 3.

And I can’t end this post without talking about the absolute barn burners that all the OPs and EDs this season brought, they’re all so good dude, and so fitting for the show too, not to mention the visuals which were also amazing, even the 2nd OP and ED set which weren’t as good as the first two, but I really do love the artwork of Shinra and Sho with their mom in the ED. And with that, I guess I’m heading on to my Season 2 rewatch, there’s so much good stuff in that season just like this one.
