Man had to go through getting rejected by his village and his sister, only to go through watching his wife and daughter wilt away. Hope that ending means he's got a happy future.

There were a lot of twists and turns. At first I was shocked, and then it got to the point where I was confused, perhaps a little dizzy from it. Like I understand what happened in the story, but my reactions went from "HUH!?!?" to "huh?" You know what I mean?

I'm watching this anime and I couldn't bother to respond to the previous episodes since I just don't "feel it", every episode is a new story and that's not enough time to get me emotionally invested with the story or the characters so it's a meh in that regard.

That being said, episodes 1, 2, and 14 are the only episodes I enjoyed so far, the rest of the episodes are meh so this is a 6/10 anime for me, and I hope it gets better.

This was an episode with a huge mix of feelings, especially sadness and relief. Kisuke's story involves a lot of love for his wife, who he met when he was a child and with whom he married and had a daughter, but at the same time there is a longing for his village. The way the episode develops and we see Ginko trying to help him and analyzing the situation is magnificent.

Near the end, we see a dialogue between Kisuke and his daughter, where the father says that he would like the child to know his homeland. Hearing this, Setsu tries to destroy the bamboo of its origin, and after trying so hard, love makes him succeed.

It's sad to see how everyone in the village, including Kisuke's own sister, rejects him and thinks his family are monsters. He, who missed his village so much, now returns to the forest with his family, but unfortunately they both die. It's very sad (really), but we end with a ray of hope when the white bamboo reappears and we hear baby cries coming out of the tomb, thus implying that the two have been reborn.

Watching the episode, it was possible to notice clear similarities with the Japanese tale of Princess Kaguya, which even has a film by Studio Ghibli.

And I close here by saying that I skipped episode 13 and only realized this when I opened the MyAnimeList discussion page. That said, I'll end my comments here and will go back to watch it.

My fav episode so far for sure. Damn that was sad, but at least they were reborn. Guess his wife will have to be his daughter now, so that's a little weird. Still loved it tho.

This episode made me very sad and I also cried a lot when the mother and child died, but at the end of the movie, two bamboo trees sprouted from the grave. I'm not sure that they were reborn, but even so, it was no longer there as before, their family deserves to be happier T_T

What a sad story, but that ending though, that was messed up.

Big white bamboo ended up being such a great dad...

Also need more episodes focused on human-mushi hybrids. There's a lot of potential there.

Wow this episode was sad but also, due to the twist ending, hopeful. That's a really unique way to do a twist for a horror drama. Those kids are like Cabbage Patch Dolls but Bamboo Grove Babies instead - something like that.

That was creepy

Weird af, but this is the Mushishi I love - bizarre, alien, outside the bamboo box. Kinda like the bamboo wife, her mom, and Kisuke. The village shunned and rejected them because they were different, though the guy wanted to be part of the community again. He wanted it so badly that he overlooked that his community was right there with him, his wife and daughter.

But all's well (is it?) that end's well....I loved the ending so much. Wasn't just, "omg poor guy lost everything" episode like the pillow. He comes full circle, now has to take care of the baby wife and baby daughter haha....well technically, both bamboo babies at the end are offshoots of his wife and daughter.

So cute, so creepy, so strange.

A-Tier episode.

Honestly, one of the best episodes I've seen. Emotionally I think it's the best. So many times heart strings were tugged and strung and ;_;..... Just really amazing. All from the realistic reaction of his sister being selfish and the villagers not accepting him, to the pure love his wife gave. The ending was so powerful... when they both had died I was just about to call it quits. I couldn't take it anymore, too much heartbreak in this anime.... then one of the most beautiful endings occurred and they were "reborn" again thanks to the new Mushi. Totally caught me off guard and I almost cried / did choke up a bit because of just how well-written that story/ending was.. Makes you think, where else in life would you get something that powerful emotionally. I went from down in the dumps from the rejection/him being stuck in the forest, to happiness because her love managed to cut down her tree/parent, to sadness because of their deaths, and to happiness again because of the resurrection.

I like how the ending is left to our imaginations as well, I like to think the babies are the mom and daughter, who will regain their memories slowly but surely. And hopefully the mom ages faster than the daughter too so it's not too weird lol, like it takes her 2 years to reach her previous age, and the daughter 2 years as well, then the timeline is normal again. Or maybe they're just 2 brand new babies, who knows. I like the previous ending better though because I sort of feel bad for the guy.. Anyway, wuteva.

Amazing episode, def. one of my favs. A bit confusing in the middle but it definitely knew how to play with my emotions..... the beautiful ending was beyond perfect imo. Just enough mystery and enough left up to the imagination..

10/10
