The movie was great!
The feeling of having a family and then one day just being forgetten is a real pain...
One thing this movie does to me is an infinite "ohhhhhh" every time Sakuta spoke to his mother.
It seems the next series of AoButa is in production! I really anticipate to the next series!

It was good, but that’s it for me. Feels like both of the movie released this year is a lot more underwhelming that the series and the first movie. I would love it as a part of series, but with mostly dialogue and subtle tone to the movie, I don’t think it fits as a movie. Still, the story is good and I enjoy every moment of watching Aobuta!

Definitely gonna need to rewatch this when this gets subbed. As much as I found it enjoyable watching this in Japanese cinemas, I was only able to understand what was going on through piecing together the visuals with the little Japanese I knew. But from what I able to understand, I thought it was really good. Probably will hit harder once I fully understand what they’re saying lol. But regardless, a great addition to the series.

And we got the next project underway with Mai in university. So pretty hyped for that.

Quite an impressive ending, Mai senpai is always there for Sakuta. However, it also felt quite underwhelming because I didn’t get enough Mai senpai. I want more Mai senpai.
And, Kirishima Touko??! 🤔 I hope we will able to learn more about her in the next anime series.

I'm sorry Aobuta fans, but as someone who enjoyed the first season and the Dreaming Girl movie, I found this latest installment to be very underwhelming. While it ain't terrible, it felt like a glorified OVA that got a theatrical release than a full fledged film.

Regardless of the shortcomings of the last installment, at least in Sister Venturing Out it was clear that Kaede and her issues with transitioning to a new school were upfront and center.

Whereas in Knapsack Kid, the titular character is merely used as a plot device for Sakuta to travel between world lines or alternate realties. Who is "smol Mai"? This movie doesn't care.

The story instead focuses on the fact that Sakuta seemingly grew too independent that he unintentionally neglected his mom, who was offscreen for the previous installments.

Speaking of world lines, the ones presented in the movie are perhaps the most unimaginative alternate realities I've seen in recent memory. Other than Sakuta not existing or his mom not being hospitalized, the story barely did anything to highlight the differences between the various realities. While I'm not asking for something as ambitious as a wacky "Mad Max" post apocalyptic timeline, at least the movie could have shown us how these alterations impacted the rest of the main characters.

The movie might have been more interesting if it presented more substantial interactions between most of the main cast. Alas, it felt like most of the characters were further sidelined... Tomoe and Nodoka in particular. Futaba is here only to spout exposition.

While Mai-san was still here, and her scenes with Sakuta are cute, those interactions weren't enough to make up for the movie's shortcomings (at least for me).

TLDR: I recommend seeing this movie in theaters only for die hard Aobuta fans. General audiences are better off waiting for this movie to be released online.

Both the key visual and the title give off the impression that the puberty syndrome would focus on Sakarujima-senpai, so it was surprising to see that it focused on Sakuta instead. In a way, it feels more fitting considering the previous film focused on Kaede-chan to wrap up the family story. It definitely had its emotional moments too, and I had a unique experience in my local cinema, as a result. The person sitting in front of me couldn't hold back his tears at all and started weeping during the climax, which probably helped me to not do so myself, lol.

Solid screentime for Futaba-chan this movie, so that's a box checked for me. Some of their conversations were really hard to comprehend without English subtitles though, lol. I'll have to wait for subtitles to figure out what that was all about, probably prior to watching/keeping up with the next installment.

Sakuta slowly getting used to being totally ignored was rough to see. Worst was when his mother's diary had that little "family of three" note. Yikes, I was left a little stunned there. Good thing Sakurajima-senpai was there to save the day. It was lovely to see how that whole scene transpired on the very ground where the infamous school confession took place. And even better, it was the very good luck charm that was intended for him but she was holding onto it for the greatest effect. What a way that worked out! Definitely a high of the movie alongside the mother scene in the end.

Respect for Kaede's bravery, though. It did feel a little too convenient how they got over the distance and whatnot but it was obviously not a focus because of Sakuta's syndrome taking centre stage. But yeah, just a little nitpick.

Another version of the original anime ED as the movie's theme song. It's become a core part of the adaption.

Last few seconds reserved for the sequel announcement, how I wish I could've been part of that first screening to learn about it for the first time...

It maintains the same production values from the anime series. I guess as both money saving decision and a familiarity decision as to not break the immersion on the aesthetic.

What a calming and insightful movie about the importance of having and keeping close those who love and care about us and vice versa. Almost made me tear up at the end.

I've come to love this franchise after watching the trilogy today, the series was good but I felt it missed something, these follow up movies were what the narrative needed to leave a mark in my mind.

Great to have this one back to back with Kaede's one on the theatre. Some people left and came back thinking it was over just as this one was going to start.

But regardless, having Sakuta experience what Mai did on the season was unexpected. It felt desolate and once he travelled through timelines and his injury was shown I was sure that this was about his mother. We had barely been given any details about how she was like besides the incident so if this whole movie serves as a way for people to talk to their loved ones more frequently then it would be all worth it.

I was so tempted to cry by the end but somehow didn't. I was instead confused by the new mysterious character and the CGI teaser for the next movie. This is not over yet.

What happened in this movie...damn.
Poor Sakuta, nobody remembered him. Except Mai-san, thanks to the amulet she did remember him.
It was similar to what happened to her at the beginning of everything.
The final part when his mother and Kaede remember him was nice :')
About the post-credits scene:
I was glad when SHE came out again, and apparently the story will still continue, YES!!!!
Looking forward to the college arc.
I liked the movie a lot.
It was good to see this and the previous movie together in the theater.

Watched the double feature yesterday. I liked that we got back to exploring puberty syndrome again with this film after the last one was far more grounded. I also thought the two worked well together to tell a complete "family" arc, with the final scene of Sakuta, Kaede and their mother reuniting being the emotional climax of the collective films. The deeper exploration of Sakuta was a really interesting angle to take with this story, as he finally has acknowledge and come to terms with who he has become and his sudden transition to adulthood. Finally, the scenes of Mai and Sakuta together were so incredibly adorable, they really are an anime power couple. The Aobuta series continues to impress me with its witty dialogue and unique takes on teenage woes.

Just watched it at nearest cinema. Not gonna lie, I had my expectation bar at its highest at first since I'm really curious about the appearance of Mini Mai, and it was my fault for that because this movie focused more on Sakuta's Adolescence Syndrome (yeah, his own syndrome) about his relationship with his mother instead. I'm going to tell what I think right now.

This may contains spoilers btw.

First of all, they really should said that the focus of this movie was on Sakuta and his family, not on how he met Mini Mai before he got similar case with his beloved Mai at the past. That's tricked me—in a bad way, because I've been holding myself to patiently wait for the conflict since I thought it was about Sakuta and Mai again, while actually it's already started from the middle of the show when they showed Sakuta's Mother.

Talking about Mini Mai and Sakuta's sign of his Adolescence Syndrome, they don't even properly explain about it until the very end. I might missed bunch of things since I was sleepy and yawned a lot, thus I will rewatch this movie later to fully put my attention for it.

Also, it's just surprising that they suddenly tells about Azusagawa's family—specifically, the Mother—while they barely mention it at previous season and movies, even at "Odekake Sister". Then, suddenly new characters get their first appearances here. Really, what is happening?

Well, that's it. At least this movie has its own charm for bringing up theme related to "Mother", and I appreciate it. Also the new version of the ending song sounds really nice, I hope they released it on music platforms soon. Some people at the same cinema studio with me cried too, so it's maybe not that bad for some people. Just watch it, but do not expect something like the first season or the first movie—it is more focused on Sakuta's character progression from a whole lot of conversations.

Still not at the level of S1 or Dreaming Girl, but I think I enjoyed this slightly more than Odekake Sister

Was fully expecting Mai's run to lead into a slap again

Mai herself didn't get as much screentime as I was expecting, but just the shot of her with a ponytail made it worth it

This was a nice film with a nice tone-downed atmosphere.

But there was no need for that scene after the ending credits, since you could have ended the anime at the hospital scene with them hugging it out and crying.

The movie still wasn't at the level of Season 1 and Dreaming Girl, but it was markedly an improvement to Sister Venturing Out. The supernatural aspects back in play were interesting, and it was nice to see more Mai again. Not a fan of this in movie format in particular, but this and Dreaming Girl were somewhat dramatic so it makes sense. The aspects about Sakuta's mom and how he accepted not having her around was done well, though I do wish we got to see more moments between Kaede and her mother, because it felt like that was just glossed over without that much care. Overall, still a solid movie. Hopefully the university arc is in tv format, though.

Solid 8/10.

The prequel show us the full resolution and development of Kaede’s puberty syndrome and some foreshadowing to the future. If you skip it, you’ll miss a important part of the story( most of real aobuta fans love this part). Her story have a specific target audience btw

Based on previous foreshadowings, that post credit scene was a great addition to anime since it gave us a good cliffhanger. It got me thinking about what will happen and who’s Kirishima Touko( probably a important character ?!)

A really good movie. Sakuta's family is finally completed after this.

Kid version of Mai is so adorable. She was some kind of guider and she helped Sakuta travel between the alternative worlds. Talking about diferente worlds, interesting that the "Other Sakuta" traveled to the main timeline while our Sakuta was in the other history.

This girl... Kishirira Touko... hope to see her in next movies.

Shouko-chan appeared in the after credits! I love her and her movie. Really wanted to see more of she in the series.

I didn't quite understand how the syndrome worked this time. Sakuta subconsciously cut his mother out of his life and as a result, reality cut him out of his family's life as a message that in this form their family simply could not exist at all? Otherwise a pretty good film, although not as personal to me as the last one.

First of all, the marketing for this movie and the last were so terrible. Bunny girl was huge in my country and im sure people would've loved to watch this movie.
Second of all, they really crossed my ankles on the plot of the movie, I thought it would be about Mai again but was about Sakuta's family which I really loved. Looks like were getting another movie covering another new timeline, will definitely be there no matter what.
This movie hit close to home for me. 9/10
(also we getting edged with that sakuta and mai kiss)
