| I didn't understand Kaoruko's perspective at all. Her thoughts led me to believe she was going to do something bad, but it turned out she was simply contemplating a kiss and falling more deeply for him. I know I have a Western perspective on relationships, but does she think that wanting to kiss your lover or falling for him is selfish? |

A lot of shy people tend to feel like they're not offering much in a relationship and that they don't deserve the love of their partner, even in the western world. It's sort of like an imposter syndrome, they just don't believe themselves to be worthy because they are so deeply in love with the other person, who for them is worth everything in the universe. | Unbelievably romantic. The romance monologue writing is just impeccable, especially from Kaoruko's pov. Romance anime/manga usually suffer from staleness post-confession. But this one keeps growing more and more beautifully. Which is probably because it relies very little on gimmicks and, from cliches, evolves into genuinely affecting and completely sincere, if not a bit too naive, character moments. The best "romance kiss" in any anime and manga, by a long shot. |
