Dark gathering deserved more attention

Just why Dark gathering didnt get that much attention? Its literally gets better and better each episodes!
The horror is unique,scary,disturbing,unsettling and creepy.
The action and story is pretty good imo.Like why?The manga is really good too!
I really hope that Dark gathering will get attention soon..

Cause weak ass fellas are scared of horror stuff. That's why you can see the horror genre in anime is not that praised by anime fans. Higurashi is also such a masterpiece in this genre

a lot of people don´t consider "horror anime" to be scary enough so even horror fans are usually turned off by the portrayal. it´s kind of fair to say because for some people it might be harder to properly experience the scare through animation no matter the quality. you need a bit of imagination and empathy to be able to actually feel disturbed and scared. not to mention, in all fairness, the beginning of DG wasn´t that exciting. the first 9 episodes were good but that´s about it, good, solid fun but there were certainly better shows this summer to spend your time on.

I am personally enjoying the anime a lot and would also love to see more people talking about it because each episode is just getting better and better. the stories are both creepy and heartbreaking which is what I like, but I think the weak start and the overall attitude towards horror anime, are at play. maybe that will change with time, though? while DG is not among the most popular shows, it certainly is not some forgotten gem.

I was on the verge of dropping the series, the first 5-7 episodes are nothing special but after that it's just like snowball going down the hill and getting bigger (better in this case). I think most low scores come from this.
As for the horror/scary part, I would say the content in this anime is rather "disturbing/unsettling". I don't get scared because of what happens, but I do get "horrified/disgusted" with some of the situations on the show.
Overall it's a pretty damn good show, being held back by the early episodes imo.

Honestly it was rough to start with, and it doesn’t help that the animation really isn’t anything to write home about. OLM really didn’t seem to care about the moment to moment animation for this show the same way they are right now for apothecary diaries. I think the story is interesting now, but if this was only a 12 or 13 episode season I don’t think it would have been renewed because the first 6 episodes weren’t particularly interesting.

I haven’t watched since episode 3. I plan to finish it over Christmas but it just didn’t grab me enough at the start to build the inertia to keep it into my weekly rotation. I liked what I seen and I see the potential and that’s why I’m gonna finish it, but it just didn’t have the strongest start.

I find it creepy every great once in a while. I have never found it scary. I would have given it a better score if it was.

In a way you are right, but if you realize the first episodes did not raise many expectations (even I was about to drop it), maybe that's one of the reasons why people don't give it a chance.

1) there's no hype about it and 90% of anime " fans " only watch stuff when they're hyped

2) there's also no drama or controversy about it, so the antis and snowflakes aren't going to make hills out of moles

like yes, it's nothing special as a show, but it's genuinely good

the manga was quite ok in popularity ini Japan. But the anime really need more attention. The lore, the designs and spiritual battles are getting better, especially the current arc in manga is so well made.

Dark Gathering also bringing more like disturbing scenes and epic battles than scary or jumpscare things. It's also not a psychological one like Higurashi.

I mean it's okay but the horror aspect is pretty subdued and the characters make stupid choices for the sake of putting themselves in danger over and over. I'm on episode 16 and it's entertaining enough but I'm frustrated with Keitarou, I get that Yayoi is the real main and all but it wouldn't hurt for the show to let Keitarou grow as a person. He has this inner power that attracts spirits to him, a grandma that works at a shrine and knows how to treat him spiritually. Why isn't he training to use his powers, to learn more and be a monk or something. Instead he just screams and run around and things only work out cause the dolls take damage for them and the child saves him every time. Unless he actually becomes useful soon this shows going to continue to get worse in my eyes.

Not looking to have future episodes or the manga spoiled, maybe he will get stronger and I like it enough to stick it out but that's my perspective on why it's mid so far.

I am still watching it but it's so formulaic with "Introduce a ghost > Get put into some danger > Win" pretty much every episode.
The main characters have too much plot armor so the stakes aren't there.

DG is following a set pattern of introducing ghosts, fight and then win

However it makes you excited and anticipate the type of ghost you are going to see next but still that takes out the unpredictability factor and makes it more predictable that whoever the f it is, Keitaro and Yayoi would find one or another way to tackle the situation

Although that doesn't change the fact that it gets better and better with each successive episode but still not good enough to be praised openly

I think the advertising of this Anime failed. It tried to offer something in name, that it couldn't give in reality. Maybe because I just watched too many Animes, I started to criticize alot, but: The flashy, colourful and happy characters were unfitting to the horror atmosphere. The boy actually blended in well into the background/atmosphere, while the girls were like sparkling stars, as if they were taken from an entirely different Anime and put into a Horror Show.

The plots in each episode were actually interesting and got better with each episode. But the flashiness and carefree characters of the girls dampened the atmosphere alot. It is okay for me, when everything goes fine in each episode. But this Anime made it absolutely obvious that everything is absolutely going to be fine with how genius, flashy and cute Yayoi was. As if the Anime tried to constantly reassure its audience of an absolute happy-ending each episode. Yayoi was a living walkthrough and a cheat in this Anime, and the Anime completely supported and featured this.

And, as if the author suddenly noticed their mistakes, they tried to force Eiko into the role of a Psycho Yandere. But they didn't keep that side of hers up, but only featured it once in a while, which also completely failed the atmosphere - as if it was just an attempt to make it a little bit more horror-like, after the atmosphere was already completely flooded by carefreeness and happiness.

So, for me, it was: Interesting story plots - vs - unfitting characters, which acted out of their role regarding the Anime's atmopshere.

The failed advertising reminded me of "Okashi na Tensei (Sweet Reincarnation)" - its name and description tell you, that it is absolutely about cooking sweets. But it was actually not about cooking, and if you collected all scenes about sweets together, the results would not even be a single 20min-episode in total.

Compared to "Dark Gathering", I would say even "Gakkougurashi! (School-Live!)" did a better job in Horror.

And in case you forgot after reading this wall of text: It is not like I hate this Anime, but I solely criticize it. I actually liked the plot ideas in each episode, they were interesting. But in my opinion, the execution of the characters failed alot.
