A bittersweet ending to an awesome series.
Awww, I am going to miss Maetel's sad eyes the most.

Maybe I was spoiled by how great the rest of the series was but I was actually pretty disappointed by the ending. Kind of ridiculous they gave the Harlock cameo story 3 episodes while this was just another story where Maetel saves the day with her magic ring. Also the last few minutes made no sense.

A decent ending although I thought the series has seen better villains than the queen was. It was all about the journey rather than the destination anyway. Maetel and Tetsuro parting ways was sad but inevitable, it was time for Tetsuro to graduate from Maetel's guidance.

Well, a decent series. I get aggravated with the inconsistencies between the Maetel series, but that is what it is. On a side note....Tetsuro in this particular series always reminded me of a potato for some reason XD. Anyhow, glad I watched it but more for nostalgia reasons than merits of the series itself.

This series overall had sad and depressing themes so I kinda expect this bittersweet ending but man, the feels ;_; truly epic space opera! 10/10.

The ending of this anime was to be as expected great yet sad, a real bittersweet ending of Tetsurou and Maetel parting ways but a really wonderful ending I must add.

While still being kept half open it was to be expected from a journey anime like this where anything could continue at any time and that what makes this space train journey so special!

Older anime tend to really surprise me with such quality in both story and character development and these last 24 days sure were a hell of a ride, from comedy to pure drama this anime pretty much had it all, combined with a wonderful pacing it really made the ride very lovely!

I'll repeat myself but this sure was a great ending and a wonderful anime as a whole, I certainly enjoyed the ride!

Sad to wrap this show up, it has been a blast going through all 113 episodes again for the first time in many years.

I gotta say, most aspects of the TV ending are disappointing in comparison to how they treat it in the movie and manga, both of which are considerably more effective and contain more big revelations. In particular the differences I can think of:

In any case, where I think the TV show remains just as effective is the sadness of the parting of Tetsuro and Maetel, and that their journey represents growing up.

Gonna miss watching this!

Disappointing ending to an overall disappointing anime. Very repetitive, both the plot setup and resolution had very little variation. The planets themselves were mostly fairly uninteresting and so many were on the verge of destruction or war that it made me wonder why the 999 was even stopping there.

The final episode is more of the "Cyborg BAD' theme that has been running throughout the anime, but barely explored. At least this episode we hear that the queen was a good character before, but why becoming a cyborg corrupted her remains unknown. But that is more than we got for all the previous cyborg antagonists who just seemed to be assholes. We're never shown if they were assholes before or if becoming cyborgs changed them into them.

The mystery of Maetel remains largely unexplained other than that she is a "princess".

i liked this series but i feel like my 10/10 rating is a bit exaggerated. overall wish they focused more on plot than monster of the week alien planet battles, and i wanted tetsudou to get his mech body that he wanted all series long besides the last 2 eps

What an amazing journey! I can't believe it's over. The format of a 100+ long TV series is so fitting for this story. In the beginning I was longing for the end, in the end I didn't want it to stop. I want to go on even more adventures with Tetsurou and Maetel.

Even though the life lessons are fairly simplistic, I do think I learned a thing or two. And I agreed with GE999's themes from the very start.
9/10

Sheesh, it looked like Maetel gave Tetsuro a kiss on the mouth.

Kinda unreal that their journey has come to an end. The parting slapped hard as expected after so many episodes 😢

I love myself a bittersweet conclusion as a cherry on top, but the main selling point of the series was still the episodic adventures with their many lessons which I really enjoyed. It's a great series to watch over the course of a few months.

P.S.: Special shout-out to the Conductor.

P.P.S: The opening grew on me so much.

GE999 was a remarkable adventure for me. The heart and soul of Leiji Matsumoto is exposed in this beautiful anime. Tetsurou and Maetel's journey, the most varied planets, the funny and the sad journeys, the outcome and its consequences. The show taught us that our dreams may not be what we really want. Tetsurou began his story as a boy, immature, who did not even know what travel was. Today he has become a man, someone honest and sincere about what he wants. Maetel is the cause of this, his presence, however problematic (because of his parents' objectives), was fundamental for the conclusion of this great expedition, but it is not over yet...

What will happen in the future with Tetsurou and Maetel? This is a question that I have asked many times during the show, but this time it brings a different feeling, of renewal, of hope.

I will miss following this beautiful and lasting project! May more people know about it!!!

I had to hold back tears at the end of this final episode. Tetsurou and Maetel having to be separated is too cruel. Seeing Maetel cry is difficult for me, because it makes me want to cry as well.

A part of me was still surprised to learn that she has to journey with other boys, considering that Promethium is now destroyed. I guess there's other planets out there that offer free mechanical bodies. Will those other boys make the same decision that Tetsurou made?

Maetel kissed Tetsurou on the lips before departing. He was literally in shock, lol.

This was a great series. It was a very sad series, with some of the most depressing elements I've ever seen, and along with its length, makes its viewers feel all kinds of emotions, but maybe that's why it's so interesting.

Last episode and without surprises, except the destroy of the planet! kekeke

Also, many of the series' mysteries were left undiscovered!!!

Irregular anime with misteries, great plots but misdirected!!!

I really enjoyed the series but it left a lot of questions unanswered. I still don't understand why that police officer killed himself when he saw whatever was in Maetel's suitcase. Someone said it was her father (pendant) but why would you commit suicide over seeing that, and why does Maetel have to keep traveling? Her mother is dead now, there's no reason to keep taking people to become cyborgs so where is she taking them now? Looking forward to watching the movie next; even though it's a retelling of the series maybe it will clear some things up.

Beautiful story,
Totally worth to watch.

It's sad that Maetel left, and has a 'endless journey'.
Wish she would have a better life then this.

Imagine all those goodbye message to some1 she build a connection with.

Awesome ending... Tetsuro is now a man, that's why Maetel kisses him and that's why she leaves him.
Now it's time for her to be the guide for another kid and for Tetsuro to go on by his own.
Unforgettable series, probably too long and quite repetitive, but still one of the best I've ever seen.

That final ending shot, where the Narrator has his whole "or so Tetsurou thought" segment, makes as much sense as Mii-kun's planet of life or whatever it was called. Which is to say, it makes no sense whatsoever. Other than that, a pretty bog standard episode.
Edit: What was the point of Count mecha's henchman appearing that one time in that one episode? That made no sense there, and was never explained, or brought up again.

Apparently all you need to do to destroy an entire planet is just drop some pendant, noted
And yet another planet destroyed, the usual business. I wonder just how many people have died?

I guess this is the reason why that boy Redril was traveling to some planet named Chaos instead of Andromeda

Fairly disappointing ending, considering all that has happened.

The whole idea of the Queen wanting to mechanize the galaxy/universe made no sense. Why even bother having Maetel bring 1 boy at a time, and over a considerable amount of distance and time (I'm assuming the entire trip took around 6 months since they said the 999 only shows up to each planet once a year, so another 6 months for Tetsuro to get back to Earth), and making the ticket prohibitively expensive in the first place? Just make the ticket free and flood the trains.

It also didn't give any meaningful answers about Maetel that they've been blueballing us the whole time.

Amazing series otherwise, loved the uniqueness and heartache of the stories as well as the "what if?" mind-bending sci-fi aspects. I also liked how the conductor was almost a part of their in-group.
