When and who was it who said it on Youtube, I can't remember. But he once mentioned that we already have a lot of isekai into a game world (i.e. Overlord), SoL about gamers (i.e. Wotakoi) or just straight up casual online gaming (i.e. Bofuri). On the other hand, we also already have a lot of sports anime (i.e. Eyeshield) and even anime about obscure sports (i.e. Chihayafuru and Saki), imaginary sports (i.e. GuP), or even just any form of competitions in general (i.e. Hibike-Eupho). We even have an anime about game dev (i.e. New Game)!

But despite the VERY close relations between otaku-anime culture to gaming, we surprisingly never actually have any competitive gaming anime (there's apparently one from China, but never from Japan). There are manga about competitive gaming, but they're also very rare (AFAIK only 1 or 2 as a whole). There are titles featuring pro-gamers (i.e. Yamada from Yamada-kun to Lv999 koi wo suru), but never about pro-gaming itself. There's one very close to competitive gaming, High Score Girl, but it's about retro-gaming, not modern Esports.

Apparently our prayers have finally been answered now, huh!?

@uncleqrow I hope it's at least half as good as TKA (The Kings Avatar, the one from China you mentioned). That show is absolutely one of my favorites.

@uncleqrow Dude you seriously need to watch that "apparent one from china". Its called Kings Avatar and its one of my favorite anime of all time and I've completed almost 300 anime. It is AMAZING really captures the feel of online gaming and esports and is just BAD ASS. There's 2 or 3 seasons out right now, and there's a couple OVAs and a GREAT prequel movie. It is truly an AMAZING show you can find it in my completed list on here or just search kings avatar. I highly highly recommended it. Im still waiting for a Japanese anime to get close to the quality of Kings avatar, hopefully this isnt a romance show with esports thrown in and is a true esposrts anime like Kings avatar.

Can we expect something like "The King's Avatar" or its gonna be another 'Boy meets girl bullsht', where mc consider doing romance to be more important than family problems & playing Sports.?
Anyone knows something how its gonna be ?

@Aomine251 So far, it has been nothing like The King's Avatar, which is far more entertaining as an eSports anime. It's been more like a generic save-the-club type of plot, except it's about saving their eSports cafe. TKA at least tries to put you in the POV of the actual in-game character, whereas BokuAme merely shows that gamer POV of staring at the PC screen lol. It's not necessarily bad because if you just want an anime that focuses on character relationships, backstories, etc. then you won't mind it lacking the immersive feel you get from The King's Avatar which had really strong eSports portrayal in all its seasons.

Since I watch anime as a bilingual Japanese speaker maintaining my Japanese, it's not so bad and there's lots of useful Japanese to learn from this in terms of gaming. Unless you're into learning Japanese terms/phrases related to gaming, you probably won't like this anime as much.

I do feel a bit bummed that it's not like The King's Avatar in the way the eSports world is portrayed. I don't think romance plays a primary role at all since the family problems that caused the MC to stop gaming in his earlier years. Two episodes is enough to determine if you'll like it, you could always just skim through the episodes if you've decided to not to watch anything like The King's Avatar.
