since season 2 is so hyped I decided to watch this but couldn't after 4 episodes. I personally do not like the ecchi and isekai genre and it seems like any typical isekai. does something good happen next or should I drop this?

It's peak Isekai.
If you can stomach MC doing very degenrate stuff once in a while, you'll be well rewarded.
If you by any chance are oversensitive and can't discern reality from fiction like some people, then be warned.
Since this is redemption story and character development is a thing, Rudeus will eventually stop doing creep stuff.

the beginning and even a few parts in the middle show the Mc doing creep stuff. he has really good development over the season. easily one of the best anime in the last decade. if you can't ignore the Mc having a few lapses in judgement though you'll miss a great show

You will get used to Rudeus. Imo the series is worth to be watched for its animation alone. The story and the characters are great and the animation is brilliant, you'd really be missing out.

It's absolutely worth all your time. But if you just can't fuck with the protagonist then watch the monogatari series instead 'cause that's the absolute PEAK of fiction!!

The world building in this isekai is one of the best. The magic system and everything is just do detailed. I would say it rivals Log horizon, Overlord, Tensura in terms of details

I watched Season 1 cour 1 and cour 2 because people love the light novels getting an anime adaptation. I haven't read the light novels, but I heard the news that the light novels are finished or completed (26 volumes of the light novels).

The series doesn't vibe with me. I don't like the main character in cour 1 and cour 2 of Season 1 of the anime. However, I do like the world building and the music of the series.

One thing I noticed about this series is that the "growing up" "slice of life" themes of this series is reminiscent to anime-only viewers. So, I kind of understand where light novel readers are coming from. It's the atmosphere that this show gives off that makes this series watchable.

Give it a try. Someone in this thread mentioned above, "watch until episode 8". I haven't rewatched the series and I don't plan to. But if I have time in my hands, I won't dismiss the light novels (the source material of Jobless Reincarnation .)

The show changes, trust me. Keep watching and it takes a twist about just under half way through the first season and the show drastically changes...

honestly yes.
rudeus can be creepy sometimes but it gets less and less often

and season 2 (for me) will be one of the best isekai season if animated well.
I read the light novel and honestly this part is one of the best fiction I have read

Everyone saying Rudeus gets better is a liar. He is not any less okay about having sex with a 14 year old at the end of season 1 if that’s what you’re asking.

That being said, part 2 is genuinely pretty good and a definite step up from part 1. The action, story and characters all get a massive upgrade. Part 2 is where the show actually starts.

Part 2 gives him less opportunities to be a creep, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he changes in that aspect. He does get some genuinely solid character moments, but he doesn’t get any less perverted

Tldr
If you’re put off by how part 1 boring is, it does get better

If you’re put off by the things rudeus says about underage girls, it does not get better

I personally think that of you aren't hooked by the world building, you should definitely drop it. Rudeus is the worst part of the show, but for me the world around him and the secondary characters are enough to keep my interest.

Just because something is hyped or popular doesn't mean you have to force yourself to watch it. The show takes its time and builds its world, but it is about a guy that gets reincarnated and lives a pretty blessed life. You also claim to not like ecchi, so what exactly are you looking for when you ask if "something good happens"?

Mushoku Tensei is one of the 2 redemption isekai I can think of. It is your choice. The other redemption isekai is Seirei Gensouki but the anime is trash adaptation (they made the protagonist a Gary-Stu when he is clearly not in the LN). For the LN, I prefer Seirei Gensouki to Mushoku Tensei.

But be careful of Seirei Gensouki after volume 18.

this is a piece of art.
moving aside the mc being a pervert and all of that sort, the show is amazing
season one part one is like world building, not ur typical isekai where the mc goes straight to battle, instead he really just gets stronger and surpasses some of his fears he developed in his previous life
second of all, the art and animation is truly beautiful
i’ve read the light novel and this series is most definitely a masterpiece
it has some deep themes yet it’s amusing and always building on concepts
this is easily a peak isekai

I was really hoping that by "degenerate stuff" everyone would understood, that I meant the very thing this series earned it's controversy from, not the most generic ecchi cliche possible.

And I don't even see how is there supposed to be any redemption arc in Spirit Chronicles, since Kirito Clone is completely flawless Gary Stu. Maybe he will fall into corruption and his mistakes will bite him in the ass? So far, there is nothing to redeem.

Curious …

Why do you not like isekai?
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Definitely worth watching, I’m rewatching currently ahead of s2 as a refresher. It’s got great characters, animation and plot. The MC isn’t that bad compared to something to like Monogatari or even rent a girlfriend (I know they’re not the same genre but my point still stands). Just skip over the hard to stomach parts like I’m doing. They don’t take up too much screen time anyway.

It depends on how well you can stomach Rudeus. Some people can tolerate his bullshit, and others like myself find him every bit as aggravating as Mineta from Boku No Hero Academia with the added pedophilia making him somehow worst, character development my ass.

Only you can really choose for yourself whether or not you have the tolerance for this.

I would say so. I think I had similar feelings until a particular point midway season 1 part 2 where I realised the author had a lot more behind the series than at first glance. I certainly have my qualms with this show but there’s something about it that keeps me enthralled which is why I’ve read 22 or so novels.

I think if you convince yourself the protagonist is not meant to be seen as a good guy, certainty not at the beginning, then you can appreciate the really good aspects of this isekai and excuse the questionable bits, bits that definitely make me uncomfortable. It is about his growth and he becomes a new man who whilst he makes mistakes really turns his shit around and becomes fairly respectable.

Eventually everyone gets old enough that the weirdest shit dies out but yeah I don’t blame you. I’d recommend watching all of what’s aired and then if by then you aren’t into it, drop it.

considering you already watch a trash isekai anime (isekai nonbiri, isekai ojisan) and like it, mushoku will definitely satisfy your thirst and probably would elevate your isekai standard. But, if you are an oversensitive twat like the others, then you can keep your hand out of it.

The level of ecchiness in this anime actually is not that extreme considering you already watch a semi adult themed anime like More than Married Couple and Isekai Nonbiri Nouka, it just has an element that could make SJW enraged for no reason.

It's a good isekai (certainly better than most out there which are released every season) though I don't like Rudeus that much. His creepy and degenerate shit kinda reminds me of Araragi and I absolutely can't stand such character tropes.

So yeah, I only liked the animation and the world building in this show tbh. The characters also didn't interest me much either. Eris was annoying as hell ntm.

I am anime only btw so maybe my point might change once I read the LNs but yeah I'll see when that happens.

I thought Mushoku Tensei is controversial because Rudeus is a pervert/pedophile? Did I miss out something?

Later in the LN, Rudeus is still a pervert. The biggest change is that he went from a useless bum to a guy who goes great lengths to help other people.

For Seirei Gensouki, the LN and the anime are very different.

Anime turns the protagonist into a Gary-Stu (overpowered with a harem of girls), but not the biggest Gary-Stu I have seen. The biggest Gary-Stu I have seen so far goes to Saku Chitose from Chitose Is In The Ramune Bottle. This dude is a bigger Gary-Stu as compared to Tatsuya and Kirito. >_>

The LN focuses more on his multiple personality disorder. In his past life, he is filled with regrets from not reuniting with his childhood friend. In this reincarnated life, he was a mass murderer before he gained his memories from his past life.
When the protagonist obtained those memories, he feels conflicted.
From his past life perspective, his mass murdering actions must be condemned.
From his reincarnated life, these are 2 different people and should ignore his past life and wants to avenge his mother. Hence, he completely neglects his past life until more people get isekai. And every Japanese condemned his actions such as being a mass murderer and his lust of revenge. Hence, he works hard to help other people to redeem his past and reincarnated life.
Currently at Volume 22, must be hard for the protagonist to lose almost everything. :(

Everyone keeps saying it's dope, yes those same people who keep calling literally 80% every anime they see trash. I don't know what more you need.

Reviews and grading on MAL is pretty harsh, so if it got a good grade you can rest assured that the show is good (I mean surprise does happen but then it's more a question of taste)

I had the same exact opinion when I first started it. I finished season 1 and nothing changed. If you don't like isekai and ecchi I really don't think you will like this even if you give it time. Everyone says it gets better after episode 4 but when exactly? When the 40 year old mc tries to get with his 10 year old cousin? Come on now. The animation is great but I think people are just so used to trashy isekai that seeing any remotely decent isekai story makes them go nuts. So, unpopular opinion but if you don't enjoy those genres then you should probably drop it.
