The 12th and final episode of the Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu (The Dangers in My Heart) television anime series announced a second season on Sunday. The new season is scheduled to premiere in January 2024 on TV Asahi and its 24 affiliate stations' NUMAnimation programming block, followed by BS Asahi.

Shin-Ei Animation produced the first season and premiered it on April 2. HIDIVE is streaming the series with English subtitles.

The anime adapts Norio Sakurai's slice of life manga, which began in Weekly Shounen Champion in March 2018 before switching to Champion Cross the following month, and then in Manga Cross in July that year. Akita Shoten published the eighth volume on March 8.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in December 2020 and released the fifth volume in December 2022. The sixth volume is set to ship on July 18.

Synopsis
Kyoutarou Ichikawa may look like a shy and reserved middle school student, but deep within his heart is a bloodthirsty killer. His ultimate desire is to see his classmate Anna Yamada's beautiful face writhing in pain before he ends her life. But this fantasy may never come to fruition, as Ichikawa starts to see an entirely different side to Yamada.

Often seeking refuge in the library, Ichikawa frequently runs into Yamada. It is during these encounters that Ichikawa realizes his model classmate is actually an airhead who can never read the room. As they spend more time together, the boy cannot help but feel not only a sense of endearment toward the very girl he wishes to murder but also a desire to protect her at all costs. Is it possible that this sudden change in Ichikawa's perspective could lead to something more? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I wanted to make a joke about how any show can get a sequel these days, especially if it's good, but the lewdness of this poster really got all my attention lol.

No.

Its more about the fact that this most probably, like many, many others was greenlight for 24 eps the moment the project was pitched.

But why? It is unlikely that they need the illusion of the popularity of the show. Moreover, this is a romantic SoL, it could hardly be conceived as a two-cour.

There's a big chance we'll end next season with a confession, if they maintain this same pace that is.

While I definitely like this show, this technique of announcing a show's second season immediately after the end of the first is blatantly what Swagernator said, it's to create an illusion that the show was a success before even seeing the numbers when, in reality, they already had the second confirmed from the start. Look at Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, which pulled this before knowing the first season would bomb in sales, and the second ended up bombing even harder, all because they obviously had the second made irregardless of how the first did.

Asterisk was an adaptation of LN about action magic school, so you could expect a second cour from it. But I don't see the point in adapting a high school romcom with that.

2nd season, NOT a split cours. split cours 'generally' only have 3 months (1 broadcast season) in-between the parts. also, did you not read the article? it said 2nd season. of course, this could be corrected later on.

popularity/disk sales/bumps in source materials sales in Japan are NO LONGER the benchmarks for more than 12 episodes/1 season to be produced in anime anymore. more and more and more cash is coming into the 'pipeline' for anime production cycles from OUTSIDE/INTERNATIONAL SOURCES... streaming, merch, disk sales, source materials sales... right now HIDIVE, Sentai Filmworks' online streaming service is ONLY putting the following subtitles on this show: English and Latin American Spanish... they're not even presently producing an English dub of it. if the production committee didn't want big piles of cash flowing in, why not put this show on SONY/ANIPLEX/Funimation-Crunchyroll and have it subbed/dubbed in 7+ languages? \shrug/ i dunno why... that's their decision. along with the choice to make more than 12 episodes. The Big Yen guys obviously know they're going to make a profit off this show... and more episodes means more profit... or it would have been planned from the start as just 12 eps.

Greenlighted , illusion ? Excuse me what the hell are you talking about ? If the first season was not a success they would have already cancelled it internally and nobody would know about the  second season .... Studios aren't charities . The shareholders want profit and if the show wasn't successful which  = not enough money from streaming services , merchandise blu ray preorders etc from season 1  , they would have already cancelled the second season .

You one of those who thinks Velma got second season because it was so popular and not because it was two season to begin with. Or that witcher season four and five are two separate seasons and not just one split in half and aired as separate seasons.

Arent you. Japan operates at a very similar manner when come to this specific thing.

You can't counter my argument so you start mentioning other series and productions that have nothing to do with this anime ? What ?
Anime industry wants profit , many ¥ in it's pockets and if they they haven't earned enough money to reach a certain goal they don't greenlight shit because they are gonna start losing money by making more seasons for anime which doesn't earn money . Simple as that

The sequel season or cour wouldn't air a mere 6 months after the end of the first if it hadn't been conceived to be 2 cours to begin with. Anime studios are booked well in advance.

actually i did read the whole thread and was working with this new screwed up inclusion system MAL has recently introduced. too many messages get mashed together in it and i dislike that.

i would NEVER call anything 'secretly planned' because Japanese anime production companies/committees have ALWAYS been tight lipped about internal matters. as a matter of fact, the ONLY show i'm aware of in the past 5 years that had a fully OPEN plan in place from day one was Dead Mount Death Play. they put out the 2 parts and fully announced all the dates for the parts in the FIRST public relations blitz. even the Crunchyroll US announcement for Shield Hero S2 and S3 was a minimal 'we are going to do 2 more seasons.' announcement. and we all know how S2 got a GIANT delay announcement months before it was scheduled to air.

If Maid Cafe Terrace announce a 2nd season or 2nd-cour next week after its last episode, this may be the case. I remember seeing rumors (might be fake), that Maid Cafe Terrace supposed to be a 24 episode anime.

yes, we have enough source. the manga recently just had a very good moment for second season to end.

If it was originally planned as 24 eps it would be listed as 2nd cour and starting in 3 months (October) like Dr. Stone and the other dozen of split cour anime we see every year. If this show was a flop, no way they would announce a 2nd season for next year.

i'm guessing they have done the first 54 or so chapters of the manga on-screen. they also included some side-stories. not counting the extra stories... there are about 113 chapters so far? probably more though.

manga readers, what do you think? is my chapter count pretty accurate for what they have used on-screen and how many chapters exist right now?

if my count is even close to correct... the studio probably could have made a full 24-episode season without a cours break in the middle.

Studios can name their seasons whatever they want. Fact is that you can't produce a second season in 7 months so it must've at least been internally greenlit a few months ago at the very least. I think they pitched it as 24 episodes. Agreed to test the water with 12 episodes and went ahead with starting the production as soon as some solid viewership numbers rolled in. At the very latest around Episode 5-6. It's still realllly not a lot of time so it may also just be internally greenlit from the beginning and the reveal was pushed back for marketing reasons.

This is a fully-fledged Second Season and not a second cour. 2-split-cour anime happen 1 season in between, just like it did with Blue Lock, Dr Stone, Komi Can't Communicate (Advertised as S2), among others.

Moreover, S2 will adapt up to chapter 113, which was released just 5 months ago, it's impossible to come up with pre-production for 2-seasons before there is even enough source material for it (As this has proven to be an adaptation, and not anime-original). It's not unheard of the average anime usually ends its production by the end of its airing, with only a few weeks in advance for each episode.

Some examples are KKC (Part 2) and The Promised Neverland, as they didn't even make the deadline for some episodes and had to deliver low-level 3rd-party animation (Which will not be the case as this is Takagi's studio).

They probably had already pre-booked a S2 but would only be green-lit after it met some pre-defined criteria both in Anime and Manga (Vol 8 - March - 56K 1st week). As it clearly did, they must have started pre-production by March-April at the earliest. Also, BDVD sales are an extreme success. The 3-volume-special-box (300$) has over 500 stars in Amazon, meaning it sold at least 4K units during its 1-month deadline. Vol-1 officially comes out on the 29th of June.

It's also worth to mention this is a hella tight deadline, around 9 months (Since March) to deliver a fully completed 1st episode and extensive progress on the rest. But let's remember this is a School rom-com with a small set of characters, no fancy fights, crazy effects or long shots. Most of the backgrounds are gonna be reused, all the character designs, soundtrack, etc.

Best of luck to the whole production team to animate one of the best confession arcs in modern-shonen-rom-com.

Not to mention that the manga was already very popular before the anime it won a bunch of awards and topped the lists of manga people wanted to see animated so it's no surprise that the anime is as successful as it is
