Now hold your horses there for a minute, critiqueing Love is war, your favourite romcom ever? Crazy right but hear me out for a minute, this is one of my favourite shows too. Personally, if we would hypothetically call this the 4th season, I think it was the weakest watch out of the 4 (still an 8/10 Imo though). The thing is, the actual adapted story content and the animation was just as good as ever BUT my problem lies with what they did not adapt. Even though I'm an anime only I know for a fact there were a lot more scenes with the side characters, especially about Ishigami at the party. While I'm sure this isn't lost content and will be adapted next season instead, it's something that made the usual pretty outstanding pacing of the show a little weaker. I'd say usually in seasons 1-3 the skits have been, like, 60% focusses on the main couple Kaguya and Shirogane, while the other 40% is focussed on the side characters. I love both the Kaguya/Shirogane romance and I love the skits with the others (usually silly Chika stuff or recent Ishigami development) but the genius is that you usually get at least a little of everything in every single episode. In the 4 episodes of the movie, I'd say there was about 90% Kaguya/development and 10% side character. And that 10% wasn't even skits focussed on the side characters but more them getting a cameo in the main romance stuff. AGAIN, I love the main romance but I did feel like something was missing this time around... And if you were to watch the movie, so all the 4 episodes back to back to back, I can imagine it would be a little draining! I think this is a shame because the manga did actually have Ishigami stuff split in between this arc. I can kinda understand why they did it though, it's a movie so they have limited time to adapt and entire arc so it's probably better they focussed on getting everything right on the main romance part and doing the side character stuff later instead of cutting parts from both sides and halfassing the arc. Though kinda weird that they still bothered to give a tiny glimpse of the Tsubame party because for the first time in the show it felt like they set up a skit that they did not finish, even though we'll get it next season. Anyways I'm getting too deep into this. I'd like to once more say that I really enjoyed this part, but what did you think? Thanks for listening to my Ted talk. |

I think the biggest issue was how they handled the intl release, as turning a movie into a more episodic format kinda takes away a lot of the purpose of a movie. That might be where your pacing problem arose from too |

I mean it was a movie of course they would focus on the main couple. As for Ishihami you are in for a treat for the upcoming seasons. There is also character development of Hayasaka. I won't spoil but the later stories are incredible as well. So far my enjoyment of the series is s2 > movie > s3 > s1 |

I’ve got the exact same complaints, and I gave the movie an 8 as well. The ending was the most egregious in terms of pacing though, and skipping the ishimiko parts and filling them with a weird flashback was definitely not the move |

Oh my god hearing all these complaints is appalling. This was to be expected. Of course it stays episodic, it is Kaguya. That point aside, I clearly just have to assume the complaints are coming from those who have not read the manga. I can’t do much without spoiling but this was exactly what needed to happen for this arc and all will be made clear in the coming season. |

That makes it even better since they focused properly on one narrative(or couple, in this instance) rather than drowning in multiple, a movie of focus and commitment. They did lay the seeds for the stuff Ishigami was up to so clearly he isn't being ignored and they will simply focus on him later in a new season. |

Rimusimp said: Yeah to long bro. It was a good movie I had 0 issues Understandable lol, shorter summary would be, there is not enough variation in these episodes with all 4 basically being back to back only about Shirogane and Kaguya. It's still great! But in my opinion the pacing is a bit worse because of there not being any little skits or plot for the other side characters, so I prefer the pacing of the first 3 seasons. It's that long because I was trying to give every possible reason to make myself not look like a hater because I gave a single critique. Because that's how the internet works and even now there are still people who comment that it was too much complaining lol 😅 I love this show! |

Like I'm being honest, the fact that there wasn't much character plot variation in this movie is the first and not even that big critique I have had since the start of the series. Only other possible thing I can think of is Chika not getting any development but I'm pretty sure that's by design and I've accepted that already and am fine with it |

There are no pacing issues neither did they skip anything from the arc. If anything a movie for the Ice Kaguya Arc was always obvious as otherwise a S4 would end at an awkward point (or would need to skip a ton that couldnt be placed in another season just to reach an good ending point for S4. So take your poison). The Ishigami stuff is part of the next arc and wouldnt be satisfiying in any shape or form even if they did a season to have both the Ice Kaguya Arc and then the New Game Arc. The only thing they did was including the date chapter additionally so they could tease S4 and the New Game Arc. |

I read the manga first and watched the anime. The movie didn’t really have a pacing issue, they could’ve stopped at the first ___s scene. It would’ve been perfect imo, the problem is with anime original content which they also did at the end of season 3 (when chika and her friends were looking for the ppl on top of the tower). They skipped like a few chapters but like I said they should’ve stopped on that first scene. |

A lot of what happened with other characters is explained after the first kiss arc so I'm sure they will adapt it into the next season as it affects the development of them in a pretty significant way. |

Like I said somewhere earlier, they made it into a movie because this arc was one of the most important ones in the story because of the development Miyuki and especially Kaguya get, so they didn't want to mix it with the other, less relevant chapters like they usually do in normal seasons. That is why the focus on the main couple is so strong and why it felt like there was no development of the other characters. They adapted it faithfully from the manga as there we only learn about how others (Ishigami, Miko etc.) spent Christmas break only after the main couple's story so we will most likely get their chapters in the next season. |

Of course yes, it's a part of an anime series so you shouldn't expect to go into the movie without seeing previous seasons and I also agree that the movie should be able to set up future plot points. However, I do feel like it's really weird how they set up the Tsubame party storyline, but immidiately stop it. We are gonna see the rest eventually yes but them just starting this little side arc but not continuing it until next season is weird and someyhing like it has never happened in previous seasons. There is a difference between setting up an arc for later and already starting that arc I guess you could see the scene as a little tease for the future but that's not how I felt, I was just kinda left disappointed about that part because I felt like they were building up to something and now I have to wait for 2 years probably. And the excuse of "it's a movie so it had to be short, deal with it" some people have used is pretty weak in my opinion |

Not to mention the fact that it literally just felt like the movie was spoiling anime only viewers, because that scene feels huge when encountering it in the manga. The standalone 4 episodes felt like a special way of putting focus on Kaguya and Shirogane and also giving us an adaption sooner than we would have had with a full season, both being things that I appreciate. I think that they covered everything for the two lovebirds extremely faithfully to the manga in the 4 episodes and I think that was always all the screen time it would take. On a little sidenote: If anything I enjoyed the fact that these episodes stayed true to their episodic formula as I also think that is one of the things that makes Love is War what it is. I understand when you expressed your concern for only covering the same characters too many chapters in a row, I almost feel here that I couldn’t bear to go back and forth while I read the manga, I felt that once kaguya and shirogane hooked me I wanted to know everything in the instant, and I felt that Akasaka wanted to tell us everything now. The same can be said the second he hooked us on a big event for Ishigami, after that I couldn’t stop wanting to know everything concerning him. Like you said it’s completely preference, but personally after experiencing it, I wouldn’t want it any other way! |

And it is not that you find only these complaints above appalling , any kind of complaints will leave you angry and dissatisfied it seems which is wrong because we have to be extra critical to the things we love so they can be even better in the future Oh my god hearing all these complaints is appalling. This was to be expected. Of course it stays episodic, it is Kaguya. That point aside, I clearly just have to assume the complaints are coming from those who have not read the manga. I can’t do much without spoiling but this was exactly what needed to happen for this arc and all will be made clear in the coming season. You know, I was going to type a bunch of shit out to show you how stupid it is to keep labeling this as a movie as if it isn’t a part of a series (to me that’s how I am perceiving your statement, it seems like you see this the same as a standalone movie), but honestly, just read what all the actual people who understand said after you made your post. You might gain a better hint at what the author is doing here. I half agree with your movie comment. I probably have a slight preference to the Ishigami storyline so I probably wouldn't have this complaint if it were the reverse. |

Superjarne123 said: Now hold your horses there for a minute, critiqueing Love is war, your favourite romcom ever? All of your points are totally understandable and meaningful but that's where the personal preferences comes in I always wanted to see romance & drama getting some more spotlight in Kaguya Sama and this movie adaptation did that job perfectly Especially that pay off was really brilliant and tbh their romance tension was enough to make me entertain through out the movie (4 episodes) and that's why I didn't even feel that need of watching the chemistry of side characters The movie did perfect job & I had 0 issues with it plus that op & ed were banger! 10/10 |

I have read the manga till this movie. I am not disappointed at all. This movie is 10/10 masterpiece for me. Since, it was a movie only about the couple , so they did really good job. Whatever scene is left they will show in next season . I am 100% sure. They also hinted something happened on christmas night at tsubame house. They miss the whole call talk after the kiss in s3. But they showed it in the movie. Pacing was perfect for me. |
