That poor Rollo kid that Vash couldn't save back then... the transformation was terrifying. And that Nicholas' teasing at the end eh

They are pumping out plot beats as 12 episode is the maximum they are getting most likely, the first half of the episode did feel weird but it all comes together at the end. The last scene of the wind energy lighting up the place with them moving out, nice SB there.

Did they finally decide to hire a director? First episode that looks like it has a story and structure so far unlike the aimless random bumping around it had prior

It was really interesting to watch and the anime really does have a unique style of CGI. Still the ending was a bit heartbreaking.

This episode was very conflicting to say at least. Firstly, i do appreciate that they gave Monev new backstory and direction than the anime and manga did which was only shortly implied in those as he was the one who was bought as slave as a kid and was forced to undergo harsh training for 20 years to hunt down and kill Vash. I do like that he is given a name Rollo. But, at the same time i am disappointed that we didn't get "Serious/pissed off" Vash like in the original which was the first time Vash contemplated killing someone for the first time after seeing Monev mow down several buildings, killing lots of civilians. And its honestly one of my favourite and highlight moment in the anime/manga that i wanted this new show to recreate in some fashion. Maybe we'll get scene like that later on, we only have to wait. Wolfwood is badass as always so no complaints about him.

Also, i don't think Vash and Rollo's relationship was developed enough imo as it is wrapped in a single episode where Rollo dies. Speaking of Vash, i feel this version of Vash feels less inexperienced and confident than in the OG anime and manga, but i do like that they retained his desire to save someone no matter what. Pacing for this show has been bit hit and miss for me as we already jump to conflict between Vash and Wolfwood's idealogies. Also, what is even point of Roberto at this point.

I wouldn't call this a terrible episode, because it isn't. Its actually pretty good episode, although i'd preferred some things better in the original. Trigun Stampede has been pretty good so far.

This is just flat out darker than the original anime. In the original, Vash has plenty of his comedic moments that are interspersed with the more serious aspects. In Stampede, Vash is quiet and reserved (depressed); there's pretty much no humor at all.

Probably the new best episode yet. One thing that really helped set this apart was how well it toyed with previous knowledge of Trigun. Namely Rollo/Monev. I wasn't entirely sure why the Rollo stuff kept popping up throughout the episode, and I probably should've realized that it was setting up Monev's backstory but there were two tricks that prevented me from catching on earlier than I did. One, I wasn't even aware the Rollo stuff was a flashback until Vash popped up. I did think it was weird that the chaos wasn't seeming to impact their story so part of this is just me being dumb, but I don't think they made it explicitly clear, though maybe I missed something. But more importantly, my knowledge of Monev's role in the original anime being significantly different wouldn't allow me to consider that until they just about reveal it. Once the doctors showed up it was obvious but I really appreciated how they used my familiarity with the original to strengthen the twist.

The Monev story here is completely different from the story in original anime, and that's exactly how I want it. Stampede was never got to capture what made the original version so effective, because a large part of that was all the episodes before it, and if I wanted that version of events, I can just watch the original anime. I think it's much better for Stampede to puts it's own unique twist on it, and deliver something that's also great, just for completely different reasons. I don't know which version is necessarily better, but it's super cool to experience this event in two different directions. That's not even mentioning the other story beats inserted into this episode that took place elsewhere in the original.

Another thing I liked about the twist, was the episode went out of it's way to show that Vash still valued his life before he figured out it was Rollo. I know Vash caring about everyone's life was already established in previous episodes, but it's good that they reinforced that here when it seemed like it was just a rampaging monster. And the contrast in ideologies between Wolfwood & Vash were on-full display here, and is one of Trigun's best elements. I loved their dynamic. Great stuff.

Well, they really did it. They made Vash the bad guy. Vash's inaction led to the creation of Monev, since I guess he was just fine walking a child back home to be sacrificed. That is not Vash, that's the opposite of how Vash is written. This is increasingly starting to feel like there's some sort of loathing for the source material going on here with how they keep portraying Vash's optimism as wrong and an active cause for problems. I don't even know why Vash bothers holding his gun anymore, he never even fires the damn thing and they've made it increasingly seem like he just can't.

Atop that, even Meryl and Drunkle comment on what utterly useless characters they are. They don't contribute anything to the story of this episode beyond transportation and the anecdote at the start, they can barely even be involved to any degree. They barely contribute anything overall.

Vash really let Wolfwood off easily too. I don't want to draw on the original too much, but when Monev lawnmowered his way through a town, Vash almost finally broke and killed him, but Wolfwood can essentially shoot an abuse and experimentation victim through the head and barely even get an angry word out of Vash. They've just made him so flaky and timid it's hard to watch him and even consider him to be Vash the Stampede.

Finally, this episode is the one that put this series on par with the original. The earlier episodes will still be jarring to my eyes but this storyline was handled better than in the original for once. I'm actually excited to see what else the series will offer and how it will mature and evolve.

Damn, this was a dark one. A kid Vash knew was coerced into a human experimentation project under the guise of religion, rampaging in pain because Vash was not there when he was needed. Wolfwood has to give the kid a mercy kill.

NOOOO! Nicholas is with Knives?! Oh god, this is not gonna end painlessly. And I bet he’s got a heartbreaking backstory like poor Rollo.

The trailer made this seem like it this was going to be a more upbeat and light adventure anime but so far it’s been so sad and dark!

Also the trailer really portrayed Vash wrong; it made him seem like a goofy, carefree but powerful character but he’s actually so sweet and kind and sad

OMG!  What the fuck did the writers do to my beloved Nicholas Wolfwood’s character?!  He’s still a sexy motherfucker, but nowhere near as sexy and awesome as the original.

They do love to use the storm trooper aim trope in this series a lot which kind annoys me but I guess I can look past it for now. This was pretty good otherwise.

Around 20 years have passed and Vash still looks the same? Interesting.

That aside, I liked the detail of the wind finally returning once Rollo died. Nice way to add even more tragedy to the already somber scenario.
