It's back! Finally excited to see what this season brings to the table.

The Fortress vs Fortress fight has finally concluded.

Animation just as good as S3. The OP and ED remain the same for this season as well.

I’m so excited it’s back. I didn’t know it was today and was pleasantly surprised the episode dropped. Such a great episode right in the middle of Kempff’s insane decision. Julian also leaving his first mark on history. And such underrated op’s and ed’s throughout the entire remake. Welcome back!!

I like the contrast between Kempff's sacrifice and the Imperial Garrison Fleet. While both realized their last-ditch moves probably weren't going to pay off, Kempff made sure he was the only one to pay for it. It shows how the Empire is changing as meaningless deaths are becoming more frowned upon.
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

Kempf going down with the ship as we return to the classic space opera. Continuing where we left off from that cliffhanger earlier this year. The fortress versus fortress battle was basically over with Yang arriving just in time to counter the Empire strategy that had been working for them till that point. Yang beating Kempf and his Imperial forces to the point where crashing their fortress into Iserlohn was their only option. Kempf gave it his best and got close but Yang again is too much for most of these imperial admirals no matter whom they are. I thought for a second that Reunthal and Mittermeyer would keep the battle going with their arrivals but wisely choosing to just grab the remaining imperial forces and retreat. Ending this battle with a victory result for the Alliance but showing once again how much they need Yang and also how vulnerable they are now that Reinhard has the Empire gaining strength.

And we're back with the Neue These. It's certainly nice to see the battles with the more modern animation and designs. And Kempf comes across as a tad smarter in this adaptation than he did in the original OVA.

The episode was very awesome. Ths Moment where Ruental and Mittenmeyer came and avenged Kempff was epic with the ost as well.

The explosion of Giersburg Fortress was like a dying star going supernova. The shockwave was very strong and powerful.

Finally!!! LoGH remake is back as the Collision arc comes to a close with Kempf going down in a blaze of glory leaving Miracle Yang once again victorious. Had Kempf went with the idea of ramming the fortresses from the very start, his sacrifice would have not been for nothing. It was too little, too late for the Imperial fleet as the were forced to retreat back to Odin, but not before they regroup with Reunthal and Mittermeyer. We all knew this death flag coming a mile away as Kempf will never see his family again. Julian has left a serious impression in the last battle as he was able to figure out the Imperial fleet's plan and come up with a counter attack despite Yang not wanting him to become a military man. I hope he doesn't get himself killed.

They need to change the episode count to 12 instead of 3.

Edit: Episode count changed to 12.

Finally, wow such an emotional and exciting episode! Muller speech was amazing! a true commander. Kempf death hit me hard in DNT than in the OVA, I almost cried. The entance of Mittermeyer and Reuenthal was fascinating. cant wait for the next episode.

I thought it was an odd way to end last season. But after the break it's even stranger to start the next season with the finale of the last. Either way in for a ride.

I would have waited for the English dub if I knew this was getting a dub before hand. Hell, I might rewatch it with the English dub out of curiosity.

Yeah, usually the English dub episodes start to get released one episode per week AFTER about 4-5 episodes have been released already. Hopefully this season the english dub episodes will get released a week after the original japanese episode airs.

What a comeback! Impressive through and through, from the music to the animation, all of it still has the same impact as watching it for the first time. Kempff went down as an idiot unfortunately.. Underestimating a reputable enemy and abandoning reason, when it was most needed, led to his demise. I think Reinhard sending Kempff on this mission was nothing more than trying to confirm the incompetence of Kempff. In other words, Kempff was disposable. On the other hand, we see clearly how Mittermeyer and Reuenthal are much more level-headed than their fellow commander just by the short appearance they make at the end of the episode. I usually don't root for the imperial navy, but I hope Muller will get to replace Kempff.

I wonder how Reinhard will take it from here, but I'm expecting to see things from the point of view of the other nation (it's been a while because I can't seem to remember its name lol).

Side note: I really appreciated the small recap that Production I.G included in the beginning, it was very much needed after a break of about 3 months.

EDIT: Does anyone know what soundtracks were played in this episode? I'm particularly looking for the one that was played in the first 10 minutes or so.

while i agree that the conclusion on the OVA was far more chaotic an dramatic with the imperial soldiers killing each other while trying to escape from the fortress, i think that this conclusion is more reasonable an it also makes Kempf like a much more honorable admiral who is supposed to be worthy of Mullers admiration

Curiously, in the OVA the evacuation didn't finish and tons of personnel die and adjacent ships also perish.

The OVA's depiction is a lot more brutal; the imperial rank and file squabble and have riots over leaving the ship as the ramming plan starts to fall apart and almost of them die anyway as they leave in transport ships (dying anyway from blasts). Though from what I gather after watching the TV remake of the novel so far this is following the novel more closely, so I imagine the OVA staff had simply taken more creative liberties of the scene.

Nope. In this arc, OVA is closer to the novel than DNT. The novel mentioned that chaotic evacuation scene and DNT skip it so they can make Kempff suicid attack longer. DNT is no longer closer or faithful to the novel since "that incident" on Seiran episode 11.

I had to stand at attention & salute for Kempff at the end. Say what you will about the results - he stuck to his guns to the very end. That scene of him flying past his family had me totally weepy eyed.

While self-sacrifice is perhaps one of most valorous deeds on the battlefield, one of the most ignoble is needlessly pursuing a defeated foe. I know LOGH sets a grander nuance in this conflict & taking a side is well beyond the point, but I find myself often favoring the Empire.

Well, since there is no news of an English dub for this season 4 Intrigue as of January 29, 2023, I guess ill watch it subtitled, one episode per day, since its a high-dialogue anime.  I hope the English dub company has not given up on this anime at this point after 36 episodes.

Anywho, a fine first episode, action packed. Loved it.

Although the anime still suffers from the "ugly people" are dumb or they die, while the "good-looking-people" live on or are the smart ones.

But yeah, a phenomenal first episode, even if Im watching it subtitled.

Kempf died doing what he loved the most, he was extremely stubborn and prideful. If only he had believed what Muller was saying about Yang being absent, perhaps the outcome of the battle would have been different. There’s nothing here to celebrate, this war just keeps killing more and more people.

However, Reunthal and Mittermeyer have come to the rescue. Those two went against Yang’s decision and followed Muller’s ship, which ended horribly for them.

Yang truly cares for Julian, and I love how he always shows it.

RIP Kempf, he was a straightforward and likeable man. Wish he could go back and be with his family but his pride wouldn't let him leave after a defeat, damn. Another win for Yang Wenli.
