Just came back from the theater.
It was nice to see Lelouch again with his power of geass.
Apparently there are few new scenes put into the movie, but I only noticed very few having seen the series long time ago.
The movie ended where Suzaku was revealed to be piloting the white Nightmare.
Overall, it was nicely put together to fit into a movie(although there were quite a lot of skipped scenes). However, if you're a newcomer to the anime Code Geass, I recommend just watching the TV series. Although it's understandable, too much is skipped.

Oh and nice bewb scene of Nunnally and Villetta :3

A pity that in Spain we will never be able to see anime in a theater, except for world premieres like Your Name or things like that.

Waiting for it in stream :(

Out of curiosity, could you list any specific cuts you can recall? I've heard they cut the stuff with Kallen's mom entirely and something about the Narita battle getting cut too. Does that mean the whole cave scene with C.C. was cut out as well?

It sounded like most of the important points for Lelouch and Suzaku were kept, though they are the leads so that is expected.

Trying to get more of a read in how they structured these to see if we could predict how they'll go along with the other films.

Kallen's mother isn't in the movie, but the Narita battle is there (apparently so is the cave scene). Whatever you heard sounds like a sloppy report.

There's a better description over on Reddit (yeah, I said it).

Just saw it this afternoon, and I loved it. The cuts made sense since they only had two hours to get through 17(ish?) episodes of anime. I'm bummed that they cut the entire Mao arc, but I guess it had to go. For new scenes, my favorite was the addition at the beginning with the other princes and princesses seeing Nunnally and Lelouch off. (Baby Clovis! Young Jeremiah! Ahhh!!!) Also the final scene of Lelouch shedding a tear as he chooses Nunnally over Suzaku...

For anyone who saw it in theaters this week, the giveaway was a picture drama dvd about a masked confession event at Ashford. Pretty cute drama, especially since we didn't get many school scenes in the film.

I'm fine with them cutting quite a few scenes, but from what I heard, the line "the only one who should kill" Lelouch said when he first received his geass was aslo cut out. This doesn't make any sense, it is one of the most iconic line in the entire show, why remove it.

For those who watched the movie: how did the opening of the movie work? Was it a standard 1 min 30 sec TV opening thing or was it something else?

The movie starts with a flashback to Lelouch as a child, getting sent to Japan (with a new scene), and up to the invasion by Brittania and Lelouch's "I will destroy Britannia" line. Then "COLORS" plays, the short minute and thirty second version. Instead of the tv op animation, they show scenes from the picture dramas with young Lulu and Suzaku, also a couple images of them from the ED.

Nah. The first movie was released the 23rd February on blu ray and DVD.
It seems to have been uploaded on youtube.

Questions usually asked:
English subs? No not yet.
I dont think any subgroup feels any interest in it.
If we look how the Akito movies went with subs. (GG is dead. However they did sub that first movie really fast) All the other movies we did need to wait for an official sub release.

There seems to be a spanish sub release. I have no idea how accurate they are though.

I guess subs will be far away. That is just my speculation.
The only one who may save us would be GG. If they want to make a comeback for these Code Geass Movies. Sadly. For now at least. They are dead.

Chihiro, FFF and commie have declined however.
I dont really think that Doki is interested in it as well. :c

- Lulu's "my life is a lie" monologue was cut
- That Lancelot's debut launch was baller as fuck
- Euphie met Arthur the cat
- Saitama fight was cut
- Lake hotel incident was cut (but was referenced later on)
- Kallen's mom scene was cut
- No Mao lol
- The meeting with Kyoto group's scene was considerably altered, with much more friendlier tone
- Diethard replaced Shirley as the shooter
- Speaking of Shirley, she's literally became even more irrelevant compared from the tv series

There are quite plenty of changes, more than i've expected at least. And it looks like the movie seems to push C.C x Lulu as the true pairing with Kallen got shafted so bad (Not that i'm complaining though, pizza butt is best girl)

The first half of the movie was okay, but the second half was great. they put a lot of improvised scenes in the second half, starting from Emperor Charles' speech about Clovis. And this is a compilation film, so there are many scenes which are cut from the film. But the plot was straightforward, and kudos to that.

As many others have said, it is a lot better to watch the original series rather than the compilation films. But still, this is good enough. At least they did away with the Shirley subplot. I hope the next film has more of the light funny moments missing in the first film.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

Saw it in the cinema this Thursday. So Shirley's motivation is now gone.

Wtf was Euphemia doing before falling into Suzaku's arms?

2021 Rewatch
Now it's been even longer since I've seen the series, but I'm going to see Transgression immediately afterwards, so no worries.

Whatever scenes they did keep, I can certainly say I was entertained. The battles of Shinjuku, Narita and freeing Todoh were spectacular visually (thankyou for being 2D unlike Akito the Exiled) and tactically, and I'm glad they kept the Ashford scenes to a minimum.

They're keeping Shirley alive by not involving her in the plot too much, then, do they have bigger plans for her in future movies, perhaps?

I don't mind most of the changes and cuts here, but... Why cut Shirley's father dying? That was literally one of the most important scenes of the story, it showed that Lelouch's actions have consequences and he can cause pain to people who are close to him with this fight.

That aside, this movie was better than I expected.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

It was... almost decent and doesn't standout well as great standalone show at all. Too much interesting and light parts skipped to the point that I just wished I could rewatched the TV show instead. And the show's flaws become more apparent as the plot feels too linear especially on the second half resulted rush pacing and this way lost most of its magic here what makes the original show great imo. Even though this did served me as decent enjoyable movie especially watching new scenes was cool (which clearly recognizable whenever they shows up lol) and also find myself appreciating this show more after each rewatch.

Great movie!

It’s been a long 4 years since I have watched Code Geass and just reminiscing all those feelings from back then is a delight to have! Many things were cut, I’m sure, but there were some new scenes here and there too, so no biggies. Hearing the Op(short tv version) at the start was very pleasing and the new additions around that time was glorious to have! Action Choreography was amazing and the finale really set up the Lelouch v Suzaku battle astonishingly, can’t wait to see the next movie! I never really liked the Character of Suzaku though and that feeling really came back to me lol but he wasn’t too bad this movie thankfully.

Overall: 8.0/10

Jeez ... I forgot how ruthless the Britannians were, killing the Japanese like that, even that baby ...

Pretty good recap movie honestly, I definetely did notice the fact that they had to cut certain stuff to fit the entire 2 seasons in 3 movies (Even though it's been a good 6/7 years since I've seen the show)
It's just nice getting caught up on what happened in Code Geass, especially with the sequel to R2 coming soon.

I enjoyed it a lot. xD

It's been so long since I've seen anything related to Code Geass, but damn is it great to watch it all again. I'm hoping to get through all the recap movies before going to the Resurrection next week.

While I don't remember each and every scene of the original, I do know it well enough to remember they key points in the story and I think they did a great job in fitting most of S1 into this recap movie. It's certainly fast pace and scenes do seem to skip quickly but I think the flow as a whole still works well so I was really happy.

It looks like a lot of new scenes were added in and I especially loved the scene with C.C. eating pizza while Lelouch was playing darts with that smug attitude. I don't recall this at all from the original and that ended up being my favorite scene in the entire movie.
I also have this very bad habit of laughing along with Lelouch, for some reason Jun Fukuyama's manic laughs are so infectious. XD

They cut out pretty much all of the school stuff so they could just focus on plot progression I guess, which means we won't get to see the glorious mega pizza scenes and C.C.'s reactions but as long as they add enough new content for her I'll be a happy man.

9/10, I'd probably give points to anything just so I can see C.C. and Lelouch again. <3

It's been three months, so you've likely made up your mind already (can't confirm or deny this though because your anime list is private). However, for anyone that comes to this discussion thread in the future looking for the answer to this question, it's very simple: Watch the TV show. As I will discuss below, I actually prefer a lot of the changes this movie made to the story, but it also skipped so much character and plot development that it is vastly inferior to the original show. Watching this movie before you watch the show is doing yourself a disservice.

Okay, time for me to actually discuss what I thought about this movie. This film ultimately just boils down to a recap of a little more than half of the first season of Code Geass (the movie covers material from the first episode to the 17th episode). If you like Code Geass, you will probably enjoy this movie, while the converse also holds true. As I stated above, I actually enjoyed the changes this movie made to the story. It cut out most of the seemingly unnecessary filler while maintaining enough of the core story to accurately convey the original plot. On that note, I give this props. I also commend the art and sound design for being on par with the original, which should probably be a con seeing as this movie came out ten years later. However, this movie is inferior to the original in just about every other aspect. The biggest problem comes from the lack of character development due to the time constraints of converting seven hours of television in to a two and a half hour long film. A lot of important stuff got cut out. In the original show, we get to see Lelouch and Suzaku spend way more time with one another, making the reveal with the Todo rescue that much more impactful to the viewer. We also didn't get to see much of the Student Council, a decision that will come back to bite later.
Don't get me wrong. I found Tamaki and Mao annoying, so I'm glad they got axed (Tamaki didn't really get axed, but he was made a lot less important; he isn't even listed as a character in the movie, lol). But I would rather put up with them and get all of the other crucial character points than experience this watered down version. The characters are what make Code Geass great in the first place, so it just doesn't work without that character development. In conclusion, this is a good, but not great, recap movie. The second one seems to be a bit more controversial, so I'm curious to see what they did wrong. 7/10.

It was... okay. At best. Definitely far inferior to the movies with a lot of character and plot development cut out (understandably). But as a movie, it's weak. If I hadn't watched Code Geass first, this would've been a very confusing movie.

Lots of arcs were cut out, and the development for characters are often completely removed or changed in such a horrible way that it doesn't make sense. And some characters whose plots contributed to the main storyline and to the character development of the main characters didn't have their development or subplots resulting in a generally bad movie.

It's nostalgic for Code Geass fans, but if you haven't watched the series, better watch that. This isn't worth it and it'll actually ruin Code Geass for you.

Simply put: this wasn't meant to be a movie, and it shouldn't have been.

The intro is slightly different from the anime. It goes in depth. Btw I watched Code Geass a decade ago. It explained a lot of the think where I didn't noticed the first time I watched such as how the war started and why they're in Japan and ultimately why Lelouch behave this way

Not on par with the TV series due to many scenes being cut but it was still good. I guess they should have chosen 4 recap movies instead of only 3.

The movie is nice as a recap for people who already watched the series but for people who are not familiar with Code Geass, there are too many things missing to completely understand what's going on and how/why Lelouch does certain things.

Also, the new version of Lelouch revealing his face to Kirihara is so damn lame compared to the original.

I was curious how they managed to adapt S1 and S2 in 3 movies worth of 9-12 episodes of content, from 50 episodes, but now it is clear.

They don't skip till a certain part, and then make usage of newly drawn animation to paste along, you can easily spot these new scenes since they look far better in quality.

For any fan wanting to rewatch without wanting to see the TV series again, I would recommend this.
I have rewatched the series before, and plan to again, as I see the movies since I curious to see the changes for myself and I love the series that much.
And at the end of all, I m curious to see what Ressurection will bring to the table.

Finally started this :)

Things took a bit difference. First off, they're now revealing C.C.'s past! Even Lelouch got to know her real name!!! I don't remember Lelouch even knowing that.

Same with C.C. Though I think they C.C. did implanted some nightmares on Suzaku. That's why he started doubting himself.

Finally, they made the fights so awesome! The Cornelia fight was brilliant! Even transition the Todoh fight pretty quite well.

Of course, they remove the high school episodes and replace them with actual conflicts and reactions of what's happening around the world.

They posted Zero more and people idolizing him much more than ever.

They even added more scenes between Lelouch and C.C. I doubt we had this many scenes early on compared to the TV series.

I think I love some parts, while other parts I wish they had kept from the TV series.

On to the 2nd movie! 9/10

would definitely prefer to rewatch the og series so i will definitely do that when i feel like watching code geass again. movie was still enjoyable but less so for someone like me who doesn't remember a lot of the finer plot details.

fml another 6+ hours worth of movies to get thru for this series LMFAO

Upon rewatching Code Geass 3 times including the recap movies, all the plot holes, dumb writing, plot conveniences & contrivances became more apparent.

The Highly praised ending Zero Requiem also makes no sense and feels contrived and forced to gain sympathy for Lelouch

10mins of pathos sequence and the grandiose opera soundtrack sadly can't fix all the plot holes, dumb writing and contrivances.
He could've kept the throne and made change happen differently. Even the upcoming sequels can't fix any of these.
These are irrefutable facts and the people who watched the show for the first time are blinded by the ending.
