THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I am not a manga reader, so I don't know whether this ova following it or not, but judging from the plot it is a continuation of the first season.

All in all an ok story with fine visuals but not too great. OVA is mostly about a new boy who found a stone with a relation to Wild Hunt and met a spirit. Nothing much to say as of now, but it seems Chise and co will try to save forest from fading and the new boy (from death?) in the next episodes.

Pretty average to me, but then again it's not like I'm a big fan of the original. I think most people who like the first season will be glad to this new chapter of the story.

Watched it raw in a stream on discord, it was really good though a lot of setup for the next two parts (I don't exactly understand the plot cuz I don't know Japanese). The animation held up great in comparison to the series though, and the music was excellent as well. Hopefully it'll get licensed soon. March and next September can't come fast enough!

A new standalone OVA (or OAD rather) story chapter of Magus Bride, and this starter episode of 3 makes for a fine start enough. Studio KAFKA kept Wit Studio's quality to justice.

The story about this Western boy Gabriel and the Stone Circle related to the Wild Hunt, the set-up is as ominous as the main series itself, which is penned by the mangaka herself.

Waiting for the other 2 episodes to drop for more intrigue.

A true return to form. Or rather, Mahoutsukai no Yome retains its form! Since it never actually lost it.

It's too early to judge based on this one episode alone either how the rest of the OVA will turn out, let alone any theoretical second season if one is ever greenlit, but if it continues like this, things are headed in a positive direction.

It's a very foreign experience for me to watch a few episode OVA for which the episodes are going to play out over the course of a year (in release date time, not in-universe) since most series for which I've followed which have these same spread out OVA episode release schedules are series which have already ended years ago rather than currently airing series, so I could still watch them all at one time. And rather even than a current seasonal and waiting week to week, this is rather waiting several months apiece.

But what is great to see is how seamlessly it continues from the first season. Full investment and immersion can be maintained for anyone watching this years from now with this episode placed right after the last episode of season one and nothing would seem broken up and disjointed. Full retention of the original OST with its characteristic mixture of cozy, at times whimsical, melancholic, and pensive mood. References to events of the first season while setting up the next arc/storyline focused on in the manga which can serve as the meat and setting for the next season.

Oh, what a blow it is to still have to wait so long in-between episodes now. I could watch thousands of episodes of our lovely Chise, Elias, Ruth, and Silky just chilling and dealing on and off with the mysteries and disturbances of a spiritual nature which rise to the surface in the English countryside.

Hopefully since this is a bonus arc set between the first season and what's being featured in the manga, this can serve as a bridge between the two, and maybe the plan is by the time this is concluding or near concluding almost a year from now, by next September (2022), to announce plans for a second season.

I just hope they can retain all the important aspects of the atmosphere with a shift of settings. Mahoutsukai no Yome, how I would love to see you long and completed one day!

"Don't do this or do that or you might aggravate your lung condition!"

"But polishing rocks and gems in a closed, poorly ventilated space with no mask is fine right?"

"Yeah I guess I don't have any problems there."

whoa, do any of u guys feel that Elias is too tall here compared to the series? Here Elias said that Chise is grown up and become taller, that she's at the stomach level of Elias', however, in the series, "young" Chise' height is about the chest level of Elias. Idk whether if this OVA is following the manga art or the new studio (yes, this studio is a debutant) is a little bit off of drawing.

How many episodes does this ova get?

Three. This was the first one, but the next one won't be released until next March and the third and last one won't be released until next September of 2022.

So they're staggering the release of the three over the course of a year.

Nice to get more of the series. The music is still great, the art & animation are both good but not at Wit’s level, everything else feels pretty equal to the series. The underlying content isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. A sheltered kid that wants to go on adventures meets a similar fantastical being. It works well within this world, but it doesn’t feel the most inspired and feels inline with this being a side story more or less to the main series.

Pretty decent though i thought it would be "College" arc. I think trailer showed hints for college, but had no idead how they would adapt so much stuff or how much in 3 episodes. Interesting story and i assume this one is the same as the movie one, like additional stories that were planned, but weren't included in the main work.

Like the animation, but just for "anime" in general it felt different, kinda reminded the western take. (some character transitions looked really weird).

Hope the next episode will air soon.

Not bad, it takes palce after the first season just before the College arc. It's original so not present in the manga at all.

The Wild Hunt seems interesting. (we are Witcher now bois)

Too bad it will take long to have all 3 eps air but at least we have something to look forward to.

Unrelated to episode but i couldn't figure out how to make a new discussion on mobile so...
Can someone tell me why it's Magus' bride and not Magus's bride? Or is magus a plural form already? Then what's the singular? Magu?

You simply don't add a 's after a word already ending with an S in english

Chise's book
Ruth's collar
Silky's kitchen
Elias' cane

Plurals are just add ' but singular with s at the end have different rules. That's probably what you're thinking of.

Damn i can't believe its been 3 years since i watched the the first season of Mahoutsukai no Yome and haven't come across this OVA yet. Absolutely loved s1 of Mahoutsukai no Yome, it was in my no.1 spot for quite a while.

The OVA itself was great, the Wild Hunt is a pretty cool supernatural concept especially shown in this show. They're more like a natural phenomena but damn if they aren't one of the coolest. Its also great to see all the main characters again, Chise starting college and just usual Ainsworth household was nostalgic to watch again. Mahoutsukai no Yome also does some great suspense scenes, the scene of the spirit appearing to Gabriel or the Wild Hunt racing through the night got me pretty good.

Good to see that despite the change in studio, Kafka still managed to recreate the same vibe the first season had.

Pretty nice start overall.

A dog working as a translator for a horse is the most amazing thing I've seen this month lol. Decent start and I can already see that boy getting himself in trouble later down the line.

It's definitely time for a rewatch. I don't remember what happened to Chise's hand.

I kind of feel sorry for Gabriel, but I can't help but sympathize with his mom (and probably his dad), even if they're wound a little tight. Keeping your sick kid from dying while doing mundane childhood things must be mentally exhausting.

dumping the problems on elias and chise.
why didnt they explain that ruth can talk to the horse because he is a dog? would have made way more sense than "i used to talk to horses at the farm" and then proceed to translate horse word by word

The only Wild Hunt I know is from The Witcher. Eredin and his minions are so fucking badass!
That ED sounds great!
