I really like the sentiment behind the edit! I think Asuna’s character is at her best when she’s driven by protecting others (some other arcs more focused on trying to spotlight her alone fall flat. I think some people dislike when a character’s defining trait is helping/saving others, but it can be done well.

(Also this point is not about liking or hating SAO they just wanted to share something they made so I don’t know why it had to become a war zone)

if I can expect civil discussion, then:

There are several, GLARING flaws SAO has, which obviously as such incredibly popular anime will be subjected to scrutiny. People WILL be pointing out.
- Most popular criticism is cast of characters. The self insert, bland, boring protagonist, who excels at everything he touches, everyone admires and everyone who disagrees with him is wrong or even evil. You know, typical Gary Stu stuff, so he is as interesting as watching paint dry. (But still, I've seen way worse protagonist. Look below, if interested) Obviously, he is accompanied by his Mary Sue Waifu.
Side characters are barely relevant and haremmates outside of their one episode/arc each are completely irrelevant. The worst offenders are villains, who are so cartoonishly bad, it's actually laughable at some point. Quiet Kid from GGO or literal Naked Chick (because "symbolism" for some reason) still makes me laugh to this day.

- The other offender is writing. SAO had phenomenal first arc (and first half of Alicization, but in second quickly returned on the throne of Trash), it has shown a lot of promise and combined with stellar visuals we had easily digestible, perfect gateway show.
But then came big revelation that Mad Sceientist did it all because he had midlife crisis and just was bored, which a lot of people understood as "he forgot", which honestly would be better. Very promising first arc ends in a whimper. And it all goes down from there.
Second arc is a quality drop so legendary, it took almost a decade for other anime to beat. (Promised Neverland, obviously) At this point author is not even trying and Kirito is a literal, one dimensional, Jesus and Asuna was reduced to Damsel in Distress. Random shit conveniently happens for no reason and Kiroto rallies, motivates and defeats anyone like typical Gary Stu would do. Oh, and there is also reyp scene, because reasons.

And I'm not even gonna mention GGO because just NO! It's even worse.

I guess this applies as constructive criticism.
SAO has it's ups and downs. It made VERY good first impression, but it went downhill too fast and we had to wait till Alicization to return to this glory, albeit briefly.
