Hi, welcome to my page. If your interested in how I score shows you can check out my Blog post on the subject ("On Judging anime by Jury" - https://myanimelist.net/blog.php?eid=845864), or click the button below for the short version. I score shows on an individual basis, as such I don't believe in the baffling decision some people make to score shows purely on emotional resonance or based on how well they stack up to every other property they've ever seen. Therefore when I watch a show I judge it based on how well it achieves what it wants to achieve. A show doesn't need the Sakuga levels of one punch man if the story is a slice of life, conversely I don't expect a comedy to have a soundtrack on the same level as cowboy bebop or Re;Zero's. My generally goal is to enjoy anime (Mind blowing I know), as such I try to take an un-bias view when I grade things. Even if the story wasn't for me, that doesn't mean it loses all value. If I really don't like a show then I'll drop it, other then that I try to make an active effort to understand everything I watch. In this I hopefully avoid giving things stupid low scores just over a single poor element. For example I've seen people give all three of 'Charlotte', 'Strike the Blood' and 'Highschool of the Dead' 1-2/10. In what world does Charlotte's art-style and amazing OsT deserve less then 4 points (even if you hated the final two episodes so much that it somehow invalidated the rest of the story and characters)? To score perfectly average or good show's like that under a 4 is both a complete mis-understanding of what a scoring system is for but also is plain disrespectful to the legions of people who poured their hard work and effort into making the production and can only be scored that low in extremely bad faith. All this is to say I grade downwards. I don't ask what's right about a show but rather what wrong with it for it, I start at ten and work backwards. Update #3 (04/07/2022); I've joined twitter, Royal-Road and self published my first book on Amazon😃 - It would mean the world if you happen to check out any of these links - Thanks😊😎👍. Update #2; I've started a little Honeyfeed account and am currently commissioning an illustration to go with my short story. Feel free to check it out - https://www.honeyfeed.fm/novels/5593 Update; Due to a couple complaints that my reviews are too long for anyone to read and a request from my dyslexic brother, I have decided to record a couple audio versions of my pre-existing work. You can view these via YouTube and enjoy being bemused by just how bad someone can be at making a video😁, enjoy! Channel Link! School Days Long Review, Audio Version Hige wo Soru. The Complete Retrospective Series in Progress Playlist Madoka Magica Record/Gaiden Long Review, Audio Version Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Short Review, Audio Version It seems it's also common to list what each 1-10 number represents on your Mal page so here's that - 10/10 - This score belongs to show's that I believe achieve everything they set out to while also excelling in almost every regard of animation, music, directing, etc as appropriate for the story being told, they are the standard for their genre For harem Romcom - Shuffle! For deconstructions 'Madoka Magica', for Shoen 'Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood' and many of the 'Mobile Suit Gundam' animes for Mecha. It is possibly I'll periodically list something as 10 as a joke between myself and my brother but generally these shows have nothing of importance holding them back and any snags they do have are far outweighed by the product as a whole. 9/10 - A show with this score is still a marvel to experience and something which I'd probably recommend highly, however some elements or grouping of small elements is just about holding it back from it's own perfection. These are brilliant shows, just not quite perfect. 'Re;zero', 'Full Metal Panic the Second Raid', 'Alicaization'. 8/10 - 8 and 7 are what I consider to be 'above average', a show in this category migth not necessarily be one I personally get much from but that I can appreciate from a less personal viewpoint. 8 means that the show really is excelling in at-least some areas but certain quarters are holding it back from true perfection. 8 is still a mark of respect from me as a representation of a show outperforming the majority of it's contemporises. 7/10 - Like I said above 7 is the threshold of above average. It's my most given score due to how I don't watch many show's that I don't like, ergo the bulk of show's I watch shearly for light entertainment will fall into the 7 category. There's nothing cripplingly wrong with these shows and they may even preform especially well in some regards, garnering them the 'above average' title. 'Campione!', 'Aldonoah Zero', 'Another' and the original series of 'Sword Art Online' to name a few. 6/10 - We're getting into what I'd consider to be 'average' now. These show's may still show plenty of potential but will often squander it, adding to the property's mediocrity. There is something pushing these up from being truly unremarkable but not much. If you enjoy any of these that's totally cool as most anime I give this score are still capable of raising a light-hearted smile but are critically not that impressive. 'Classroom of The Elite' or 'Zeta Gundam' would be one example of this. 5/10 - As you'd expect a 5/10 is a show that is completely average, right in the middle of good and bad. A show can attain this score in a couple of ways. It could be the case it does everything to simply a passable standard and nothing more or alternatively it come be doing a couple of aspects atrociously bad but is otherwise are above the standard in other regards. These can still be fun but would need a serious over-haul to attain a higher score and as they are, they're most watchable as light entertainment and no more then that [i]'Rent-a-Girlfriend', 'Darling in the Franx', 'Gate series 1'[, 'Char's Counterattack'/i] 4/10 - Now we arrive at below average, these show's again may have something to them on some level but are held back by the negatives or are just downright badly made but not total garbage,e.g. Code Geass Lelouch of the Resurrection. 3/10 - If 4 is below average then these are really pushing the envelope on being completely hopeless. To attain this score you need to do more then just have a bad story, you'll need a weak OsT, poor direction, often bad or ugly to look at animation and a complete failure in the narrative and characters. It's possible I'd give a show this low a rating for one or two incredibly large issues but generally they score this low out of a combination of bad traits and poor production values. 'High School DxD Hero'(the other series are much better, just skip this one), 'Masamune-kun no Revenge', 'Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer' 2/10 - Much like 9/10 is almost perfect bar for some collection of small issues or one big error, the inverse applies to 2/10. If your scoring this low then all that's saving you is a set of small good graces (like the fact it is actually semi-competently moving) or one large and admirable trait preventing it from being completely miserable to watch. A show ranked this low can only be save if given a complete retrofit from the ground up, probably handled by a different team. These are truly bad shows, if you enjoy anything I rank this low, then good for you but maybe find some better anime. 'Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken' and '100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru' 1/10 - The dreaded bottom of the list, last place, absolute thrash. If I score a show this low it really has failed not just in what it wanted to do but also as a piece of media. It quite possibly shouldn't of been aired. There aren't many (if any) shows I've scored this harshly, I guess if I added show's from my childhood or heinties or short tv adverts, then maybe some of them would fit down here but to be honest, to score a one out of ten I'd need to be watching a slideshow while someone plays the titanic theme on a tin whistle in the background. There is no hope for a show this bad, to the point where I genuinely feel no one on the production theme gave a care and was running on auto-pilot. Well that's that, I hope you found it informative(?), feel free to shoot me a message if any of it perplexed you in some way and I hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading. If my not-so-hot common sense takes are what your looking for then feel free to check out another essay on the Blog titled "On Culture Shock and Imposing the Standards of the West" - https://myanimelist.net/blog.php?eid=851966 . My list only includes anime I've watched (or re-watched) as an adult, as such I did also grow up with Pokémon and I believe I've seen bits of every series up to Unova alongside almost all the movies to that point, I always watched Yu-Gi-Oh in bits up to and including (I think) '5Ds', some Bayblade, a little Dinosaur King when my siblings were little, etc etc. However I would neither be able to properly speak on these shows nor accurately list the quantities of them which I've seen. I also had Digimon as a kid, some of which I've rewatched (and listed as appropriate) which I'd be much happier to talk on, hence it's listing as-a-versed to the others mentioned. Furthermore I've watched and listened to an unhealthy amount of discussion, analysis, reviews, podcasts, seasonal round-ups, reactions and meme based anime videos to the point where they may actually quantifiably rival my time spent watching actual anime or reading of LNs and manga. In particular I've seen almost everything there is to say on Madoka, Eva and most of the stuff on School Days(except the game based stuff), including their Wiki's and I'd still suggest I've barely scratched the surface of opinion and interpretation on those show😂. Anime Related Games - Visual Novels (Scores are mostly subject to change upon completion) The Fruit of Grisaia - 3ish routes and 2 after-stories.(Still in Progress).-10/10 If my Heart Had Wings - General Route + 1 other.-9/10 World End Syndrome - Completed (It's relatively short compared to most other visual novels).-7/10 Doki Doki Literature Club - Completed (Does this count? It definitely should😂).-10/10 Certain bits of Misc others, usually for research on reviews, not worth listing. Non-VN Related Game(Note most of these are from when I was a kid) Pretty much every Pokémon game more then once...I regret everything.... Penultimately here's a shorter and completely controversy free essay on my rambled mussing over the role of bedrooms in anime, enjoy - https://myanimelist.net/blog.php?eid=852878 . Otherwise your welcome to check out my reviews section https://myanimelist.net/profile/momentie/reviews, The reviews are broken up between short reviews(SR) of sub-3000 words and long reviews(LR) as marked by the title line of each review. Comments are most welcome, feel free to leave feedback or ask my opinion on any specific show I've seen. Enjoy your stay and thanks for reading. |

Funny you found that old School Days essay of mine; had fun writing it back in the day so it's nice seeing someone dig it up xD
Glad I could find another appreciator of School Days <3 I've gone as far as to play the visual which was also nice. Also, I wrote the current synopsis MAL has up for School Days right now ^_^
And I see you're a Setsuna fan! Big fan of her too, and the tragic sacrifices she made for Sekai served the story well. I'm happy School Days went with the nihilistic route to help it stand out from the usual romance stories, sort of like what I'm doing with my Government-Issued Girlfriend story :D
I don’t think i never seen an opinion+review like this one about School Days, and if you did the same for every other reviews that would be crazy.
Do you have a youtube channel?
Have a good day! 🎃👻🍬
