CH18-19 were adapted

Well well, the first exam ended in the last episode. The ones that passed were Kuwana, Hashida and Yaguchi. Everyone's taking it easy for now, he thought that it would be different because of the pressure the exam puts on you. Yotasuke also passed but didn't show up. That was quite obvious. Yaguchi's face when Hashida told him about it was hiliarious.

The technical skill Yaguchi lacks is ''color''. Ooba-sensei already told him to avoid colors because it's a hard skill to master. But this time, she told him to go for it. Glad that she's giving him more advice because obviously, artists are good at using color and blending them together to creat an art piece. His main focus for now will be colors.

Out of nowhere, Ryuji appeared and seems like they're going to shop together. The conversation about the colors and their meanings were really interesting. Anyway, he finally found out that Ryuji didn't pass the first exam and stopped going to art school. It shocked Yaguchi.

He's finally understanding the usage of colors and that there's a deeper meaning behind each one of them. Kuwana helped Yaguchi to get his thoughts together. She's one hell of an amazing character.

Yaguchi heard about Ryuji's case already but didn't exactly know what happend until the little girl told him. He starts to make a phone call and confronts Ryuji and Ryuji who's partying with some old dudes is just annoyed as hell.

Ryuji has a hard time at home and I can't say that it's the Grandma's fault for pushing Japanese art on Ryuji because it's not his thing. Well, on the otherside, they're having fun reviewing each others sketch book.

The last conversation on the train station is the first point on Ryuji's amazing character development that will happen through this arc. Yaguchi is risking everything for Ryuji. It's going be one hell of a ride.

good episode and nicely adapted at that. Yumirin's voice acting was awesome as always, especially playing a distraught Ayukawa Ryuji.

Finally, the anime has reached one of my favorite highlights in the manga: Maki talking to Yatora about her friend who was admitted in the hospital, and of course, the entire arc dedicated to Ryuji.

Although it was also a small moment in the manga, Maki saying that "sometimes it can be hard to choose the easier path" hits hard for me. This is one of my favorite lines in the entire manga, so I'm glad that this moment wasn't cut, seeing as it was only a short part of the series.

Next is that conversation that Yatora had with Ryuji, which equally fucked with me when I experienced it for the first time. The execution of the scene in the anime was alright, but having to actually hear Ryuji's voice still made it spine-chilling. What I also loved about that whole confrontation is how neither of the characters are necessarily in the wrong, which makes it all the more difficult to only side with one and instead, make you root for both of them.

That last scene with Yatora and Ryuji was also solid as well. It really shows how much Yatora does care about his friend, and although it can also be interpreted as Yatora doing it for the sake of not being bothered during the exam, it shows how genuine his feelings are towards Ryuji, who's reached rock bottom.

Not too sure how much was cut (I assume it's the part with Yatora dealing with the concept of colors) but this was still an overall great episode. Looking forward to the next episode, high on hopium right now that it'll get the same treatment as with episode 5 and Yatora's bond painting.

This show manages to outdo itself every episode.

Quite a few life-lessons throughout this weeks episode; 'sometimes it can be hard to choose the easier path', 'you're the person who would go get the life preserver' etc.

Well, it seems like Yaguchi has a new problem, and this time it's related to the colors which again as an artist he has to solve himself. Nice to see Ryuji once again and as expected he's definitely going through something for sure. I feel bad for him. I wanna know what's going on with him.

And, looking at the things from Ryuji's POV makes it much clearer. Still not sure why he left his passion for drawing. There are more reasons for one problem. As a good friend Yaguchi is, he can't seem to concentrate on his own work because of the things that Ryuji said to him. Poor Ryuji, he just needs a hug and someone to tell him that he's worth it. He's going through a lot. Yaguchi is a great friend. I love this friendship so much.

all I'm seeing is people praising this, but Ryuji needs to grow up a bit and use that had of his, not do what he's doing now for no reason, sick part-time job dude.

then he shouts at my boy who is successful atm, for no reason, I can't find one, that annoyed me, I'm writing this basically right after so maybe my anger for the stupid dude is just a bit over the top right now but that's how I feel after the episode.

They really peaked this episode! I truly like how the art focus of this episode is colour. And how it's not only the coloured canvas but also the human colours. The colours of emotions.

Ryuuji's word choice. In a way, it describes Yatora's character perfectly. Surly great when Yatora grasped the human colours towards the end as he released that you can never replace an old friend.
"If you saw someone naked and crying...
You'll give them some clothes and listen to their story,
but you would never strip down yourself."

But isn't these words, sadly true for the majority of people? Even if they'd wanted to do more. Wouldn't most people run for the life preserver first? As if they'd jumped, they might drown too?

You're welcome! I'd start from the first volume (I'll assume that you did) because the anime changed a lot of scenes and cut through content to fit everything into one season. The manga goes much more in detail with the art-related content and what more. There were a few more beautiful panels I wanted to post but this one hit the hardest.

Anyway, have fun ^

In Blue Period we hear Yatora's inner voice all the time, and that's why we know he's normal human just like us, he has strong points and weaknesses.

But other characters can't hear Yatora's inner voice, so it's not strange that many people have opinion about him that deviate from who he really is. I bet everyone think he's a robot that always choose the rightest answer and choose the most efficent way of doing things.

I hope Ryuji will be the one to fulfil what Yatora lacks, and by doing that it'll also save himself from suiciding thought.

Poor Ryuji. Living in a household with unsupportive parents. It's really suffocating. She obviously wants to pursue something else but she's blocked by a circumstance.

Neither Ryuji nor Yatora's POV is wrong. They're just acting based on what they think is right. It's true that you can't relate to someone's experience unless you experience it yourself. Even if you experience it, you can't completely understand how it feels since every experience is different. On the other hand, Yatora just want to help his friend in the best way he can, while carrying his own baggages.

I was scared for a moment coz I thought Ryuji will jump off the platform! Phew. I hope, wherever they're going, they will find peace.

His grandma is really nice however. Pretty depressing episode.

the story's going pretty good uptill now, i really hope this small adventure with ruji doesn't affect his 2nd exam. also i think i was the only one who was scared that ruji was gonna jump in front of the train, it got really tense for a few seconds there, i had to pause and get ready before resuming watching again. i wonder how many episodes this anime's gonna have, i'm thinking the anime will finish once he gets into an art school

Still don't see the point of Ryuuji's character. Feels like he's here only for pointless drama. If I'm not mistaken, after this small arc of his, he doesn't even ever appear again in the manga, or at least in any relevant fashion.

Holy Shit, in this episode they take time for character development without the chainsaw and oh wonder it is great. I was always frustrated by how the show did treat Ryuji. Now we got this really intense moment at the end where, as a non manga reader, I had no clue what would happen. And boy was it a hell of a ride.
Normally I really hate the gender/trans etc. topic in anime as it will always be treated in a semi sexual way. But here you see the torn personality of Ryuji. And the topic is not if he feels what his gender should be but more on his general mindset what he wants to do with his life. And yes its not only what cloths you want to wear. I am positivly waiting for the next episode to see how they treat it.

Damn, Ryuuji is on the edge right now. Wonder what's the deal with his grandmother tho. I mean, she seems super oblivious to all the heavy and oppressive atmosphere despite living in the same house.

Anyways, another nicely handled episode. Now let's hope Yaguchi can be of help for Ryuuji, who has clearly reached his lowest point.

more details about the club where yuka-chan is working at :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiKG_v8vn28

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host_and_hostess_clubs

A hostess club is a type of night club found primarily in Japan. They employ primarily female staff and cater to men seeking drinks and attentive conversation.

The host club is a similar type of establishment where primarily male staff attend to women.

Hostesses light cigarettes, provide beverages , offer flirtatious conversation, and sing karaoke to entertain customers.

There is no dancing, prostitution or nudity in this club .

This club has a strict "no touching" policy . However a red-light district version exists, where patrons are permitted to touch their girl above the waist , and engage in sexual conversation , or kissing .

*
Name of Yuka-chan 's club : ひげ 娘 .
ひげ = hige =
- mustache , beard , whisker , sideburn , hairy .
- humility .

娘 = girl .

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51694912534_78bf8b4fa3_z.jpg

The 1st time that i read the manga , i thought that Yuka-chan pretended to be a girl and seduced the normal male customers .
But now i realize that the customers already know this club offers cross-dressing , trap , male hosts .
The customers 's tastes are so kinky , lol .

And which crazy guy hired the fat , old , ugly , manly guy with the purple dress as 1 of their trap hosts ?
And the bony customer is crazy enough to ask for this fat guy as his host , lol .

For this job , Yuka-chan uses lip-stick , long eye-slashes , and paints his finger-nails , and uses the pronoun "atashi" instead of "ore" .

i thought this kind of club only exists in henta! , lol : https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51694501098_f46cc14291_h.jpg

I just noticed that Japanese Yaguchi doesn't use he/him when speaking of Yuka. His sentences are gender neutral. I wish the translators did that too.

I think Yuka's struggles this episode would have been so much more powerful if the voice actor was a man with a delicate voice.

Yatora works on huge canvases with tiny round-brushes. I can't believe I just noticed it! No wonder I feel uncomfortable whenever I see him painting. I wanna check the manga to see if he did that there as well. lol He looks like such a beginner because of it. Yotasuke, by comparison, looks so confident because of his big flat-brushes. (Maybe this was done on purpose.)

I wish they used a different soundtrack when Yuka's parents were being abusive. The music and the scene's mood just didn't go well together, in my opinion.

This episode had an adequate rhythm dealing with the problem Ryuuji the only weak thing was the music, another thing that he saw is that Yagushi still needs to evolve as an artist and person I hope that his search for his color will help him make more decisions of his own and not be influenced by the I am not saying that listening to advice is bad but from the beginning of the episode I saw how he acted according to what he heard and he just took his own notice to Ryuuji to say irrational things

Grandma acting like nothing is happening really got on my nerves. a fucking enabler. Yuka shouldn't care for anyone in that cursed household, start caring more about herself and find a way to live independently, doing what she loves - fashion art. and also she needs therapy or she's gonna end up being abused again.

Yaguchi, Kuwana and Hashida all passed the first exam, and no time to waste because the second exam is coming up very soon. Colouring is another delicate composition, and is the same technique as the others. Use too much, and the technique is lost.

Yaguchi coincidentally meeting Ryuuji on the streets, but he's all done with art school with the heart-to-heart conversation. For someone who brought him into the world of art, only to quit before the latter, Ryuuji's distortion is traly real. Yaguchi hearing about Ryuuji's exam work of a "X", it's clear that he wants NOTHING more of Yaguchi's stranglehold. As per usual, only Ryuuji's grandmother can sympathize with her, and Ryuuji clearly is having a breakdown of his own within his own family that continues to be a dread.

The 2nd exam of an oil painting and a sketchbook, it's even more rigorous. Hashida understands Ryuuji's trouble that Yaguchi expunges, but the latter himself isn't quite so sure about how to handle the dysfunction between him and Ryuuji. For Yaguchi to understand Ryuuji, he has to jump into the abyss of the struggles he's facing through.

Really relatable episode for the things that Ryuuji is experiencing.

Holy shit those parents ...
I mean, even if they are not happy with the child being transgender, forcing someone to do art is a surefire way to disaster, even more than forcing them to be a doctor or whatever, because artists need their freedom.
They clearly have no idea what they are talking about. My guess is that they are not the real parents but relatives that took her in, they seem to have zero understanding of art, the process, the person, parenting, or basically anything that is not related to their specific field of work.
The grandma is basically the only thing that kept her alive, but she is too old to have much of an impact on the family as a whole.
