There was no way Nagatoro wasn't going to get a second season. It's way too popular for that.

My biggest regret: Reading all 200+ chapters of Kanojo, Okarishimasu

Well tbh I'm surprised cuz studio Telecom Animation Film, who did Nagatoro-san, didn't make any second season animes yet until this anime. So I kinda didn't expect that it wouldn't have a new season anymore.. But it did!

Yess, the blu ray sales were so poor, I really dont know how this got a sequel. Meanwhile, masterpieces likes CoTE and Imouto Sae Ireba Ii (wich, ironically sold twice more than Nagatoro-san) still has no season 2, and will probably never get one.

Blu-ray sales don’t really tell how much the studio get since there are also people that watch the TV broadcast and on streaming service as well. And they gain more money from those.
And when the anime come out, the manga have 1.8 million copies sold and we still don’t have any update. And most of the time manga sale are the most important and it’s what decide will the anime continue or not. So we have absolutely no idea that is the manga doing good or not which is why this is unexpected.

Blu ray sales are an old metric. Kadokawas stock report talks about how streaming and international markets are the new important factor as anime separate from the merch can be profitable. Inbedded in this crunchy article is the actual financial report, and while it doesn't mention Nagatoro specifically it does describe the changing mindset. Also of importance is that there's actually an "anime shortage". Shows aren't being produced fast enough in large enough quantitie. I expect even more shows to get second seasons going forward regardless of quality. I mean, Last Crusade was trash and even that just had a second season announced...

the manga is quite popular...I don't know about the anime tho. Also just so you most of these anime are made to increase the manga sales and not the anime itself.

wow that really does explain why so many shows are getting second seasons. In particular, under a different climate there's no fucking way Tsukimichi gets a season 2. or that Devil is a Part-Timer rises from the grave.

So my bet would be chapter 90, or 91. I forget the exact one but its the end of the arc you're currently on. It's a natural end point.

How is there an anime shortage? Seems to be a lot of anime, or is it just down from the pre-pandemic seasons?

There's a shortage due to the changing nature of how television is consumed. Netflix, Hulu, hbomax, etc can't keep up with the demand for content. That's why you get Netflix pushing things like Tribes of Europa (german) and Squid Game(korean) to US audiences. All these subscription services need a constant drip feed of content in order to make there services viable. That's why you have Hulu airing Mushoku Tensei as soon as it's up on Funimation. It's why you had HBO Max airing Re Zero part 2 as soon as it's available on crunchy. As anime fans we often look at it from our bubble but there's a whole pool of streaming providers both mainstream (the netflixes of the world) to the niche (crunchy, funi) that need content. That's why I say there's a shortage. Japan can't pump the stuff out fast enough, so while there's more anime produced now than when I first started watching in the 90s, the demand is far, far greater.

Kadokawa and the other big anime producers know this. That's why Kadokawa has acknowledge international streaming as a priority and it's why they stated their goal is to produce 40 shows for the fiscal year. It's also why we're seeing everything get a season 2.

I'm hoping for another season of A Sister's All You Need as well. I've heard about what happens later in the novel which is totally unexpected so I'd love to see that animated. But I love Nagatoro also so I'm happy this is getting another season.

omegalul, just to scare viewers. i know senpai confesses that he loves nagatoro to himself. dont be a clown, please.
"just to scare viewers" what do you gain by that? Besides making yourself a clown.

Its OLM now which I'm not mad about because OLM doesn't necessarily have a rep for bad animation and they did summertime rendering quite well so I have no doubt they would do good on this as well.
