THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode is pretty interesting, given that Kukuru and the others are tasked with helping penguins and their hatching. Doesn't seem like Kukuru is good at taking care of a baby though lol

Also got to see more of Chiyu this episode with her situation. I'm just glad to see the Aqarium maintain its popularity with the audience, especially the kids.

Gama Gama's veterinarian Dr. Takeshita is back from her maternity leave to inspect the penguins on their egg hatching, but apparently Chiyu wears a black face upon hearing that they need to stay overnight to oversee the penguins. And good that we're finally getting the right name of the Aquarium Tingarla.

Glad that Takeshita's newborn child is doing alright, but taking care of a child is a mother's first and foremost task. Moving into Kukuru's new lodging place and being requested to take care of her child, she's definitely not prepared. But Kukuru can understand what Takeshita is going through in the exact order, and imitating Chiyu as well in the same way.

As if that's not enough, Chiyu is conspicuously left out of the shift work of watching the penguins lay their eggs, and this to Kukuru, spells out the usual "special treatment" and excitement for helping out as a backup. In hindsight, more than her anger outburst threatening Kukuru, this is further clarified by Garandou, and Chiyu's backstory of a life that's ridden of bad aquarium work practices, coupled with the added pressure of taking care of her own child as a single mother from a failed marriage, and Fuuka's pep talk hopefully eased her heart somewhat to release that burden.

Chiyu bringing her child Shizuku to walk around Tingarla with Director Akira, and as much as both Kukuru and Chiyu are still at loggerheads, at least their relationship has improved. And the penguin eggs finally hatch to mark this occasion a memorable one.

A family-oriented episode with a lot of heart, and this warms my heart to a degree.

A little more and this show will collect all PAWORKS bingo. All that remains is to get the agnsty romance, Key influence and the false impression that Mary Okada wrote it.

Yeee, nice to see the animal caretaker doctor (i don't know the english term for it lol) to make an unexpected appearance again, nice to see her and the baby doing well. She is voiced by Hanazawa Kana right ? Or am i hearing things.

A very "motherly" episode i would say, it needs to be said. Now, you may feel like Chiyu was introduced as an "annoying" character intentionally, so they can reveal this much later in the show. But i like the reveal, it makes sense now and it feels right with the spirit of the show .. well at least with the second part.

Very good episode. Kukuru finally getting some real life lessons. And i was having waterfalls instead of eyes. T_T

So Chiyu was a single mother it must be hard for her working a full time job and taking care of a child, honestly single parents have my respect.
I at least hope her relation with Kukuru will improve know that she knows as well and it explains some of her behaviour, well so did her past.

It was also nice the see the veterinarian again and it seems she is doing fine.

wooooooow an unexpected drama from Chiyu.
She's a single mom from the start. It was very tough to be a single mom and work together at her age. At least, she married and got divorced. Because, at first, I thought it was an unplanned pregnancy which will bring the episode to be darker than this.
Well..., I hope she will open to others, ask for help when you've got a problem as she's got someone trustworthy and ready to help her at Tingara, and improve her relationship with Kukuru.

Good that they show more of chiyu why she hate kukuru because she has a child and that’s not so eazy to that with ghe work.

Cool that she brings shizuku in the aquarium, tbh but fuuka was the one who make that even happen.

Well, Takeshita-sensei is still on the show. Now Just Choko is MIA.

I get from where Chiyu came, but she was kinda too aggressive even Kukuru not being an angel.
And sending her to Gama Gama was a great planning of the attendants director. Would be a great for technically being more flexible and Tingaara trusted it to train her. I mean 100% if Gama Gama is working.

Its nice to see Takeshita sensei again not to mention having her join their ranks as well. It unfortunate that things between Kukuru and Chiyu ended up being so strained though. While Chiyu could have opened up to her friends Kukuru shouldn't have been making assumptions on people either. The clash of whether to pursue your dream or focus on one's child is always something thats difficult especially for those mothers that have to raise their child themselves. In the end im glad that Chiyu was able to realize that unlike her previous workplace the people at Tingarla are one's that always cared about the well being of their employees and would help when needed. The hatching along with the shot of the senior staff's happiness at it sure was a nice way to end the ep with. Overall i really liked this ep and its theme on childbirth and the struggles that can come from that served to expand upon Chiyu's character quite a bit. While there are still differences between the two with this it seems that the bond between Chiyu and Kukuru now have a solid foundation to be built upon.

So Haebaru is raising a child, that was a big secret. I can't imagine how hard is to do all by herself.
It's nice that all the co-workers tried to understand her, everybody need help in some point.

Well, this explains then somethings... - why Chiyu so contra was to everyone (especially to Kukuru). She had indeed an hard fate till now, but she has now not more worry about it, because she can now with the help of other bloom up - and the dark clouds finally behind her leav and forward see in an bright future.

Btw, I do hope that the ex of Chiyu in the hell drive! Because how could he such an beautiful and lovely women/mother to leave? He didn't deserve her from begin - this with his own family to do... I can't forgive him this, he doesn't have honor. He is just a ass!

My brother and his wife just got their first child and they have a really hard time balancing work with taking care of it. I imagine how much harder it is for a single parent.

And once again the controversy between JP working expectations and real life.

Good thing, this place is not as bad as people thought after ep. 13.

This episode finally focused on Chiyu at long last and it was a really good one at that! =)

It gave us the answer that I was wanting to know as to why she looked down at the Gama Gama crew so much, especially to Kukuru in particular. The first reveal that she was a single mother was something I didn't expect at all, but she's had the bad luck of being in a former workplace where trying to raise a child and work at the same time wasn't looked at in a positive light so much that got the sack and also caused her marriage to fall apart, too. Her old workplace must've been a crap place to work, then. =(

Although I can understand as to why she wanted to keep the fact that she was a mother a secret at first while working at Tingarla, it did start to cause issues with the other workers since she wouldn't open up at all, which was shown when Kukuru tried to cover for Chiyu's late shift, which caused an argument between the two of them. I do have to give praise to Fuuka for talking to Chiyu straight about this, while Kukuru, wanting to get to know Chiyu better, looked after Takeshita's child for two hours just to see how tough it was to look after a child.

The fact that Tingarla's director is fine with Chiyu's situation makes me like him more now, especially when he tagged along with Chiyu as she showed her son around the aquarium. Also, seeing the baby penguins hatching was a nice moment with everyone involved, too. ^_^

Now I want to see Kukuru's stubborn superior get some focus sooner or later, as I want to see him lighten up personality-wise. Hopefully I'm not asking for too much here...

This episode was bound to happen sooner than later and I think that it was an interesting way of portraying the hidden depth of the character that everyone knew that was there. I think that using the penguin birth was pretty intelligent, it showcased the different stages of the development and put a good pace to this episode. As a single mother children I loved this episode and I teared a little too. Kind of cliche but it worked so who cares

I was so confused when I saw Tingarla instead of the Tingaara. So I guess Tingarla is the official name now or was it just miss translated all this time?

Well, this I did not see coming in the slighest. Chiyu is actually a divorced single mom... I do understand her attitude better now, but still if she was just honest to the others we probably wouldn't have found ourselves in this situation. I do respect Chiyu's determination now though, she's a strong mom.

Still good episode that definitely worked well for the characters' relationships.

Well that sure was a curveball. I never would have thought Chiyu was a mother. She's a very young mom as well. No one should have a child when they are basically still a child themselves. Well it was a really nice episode which gave a lot of perspective on Chiyu's past behavior. Course they wrap it all up with the penguin birth.

Well, she can actually be quite mature by real life standards. Perhaps the cute anime designs and our habit of seeing mostly teenage girls in anime did the trick. Plus, perhaps her life would have been more adult if her husband had not left her with the child.

Ah, HanaKana sensei back again! There, she join Tingaara gang too. But, looks like there's someone felt anxious, and no one except her could do that. However, sensei role wasn't necessarily just that. When the time has become more dire with the overnight shift changing schedule, due to the days waiting for birth of that penguin, her backstory finally revealed. Its about time!

Surprise motherfucker, i am simply get off from my screen after hearing that. She's actually had a young child, and more importantly about the dark past of her; abandoned by her previous work place, get fired with such a reason, and divorced, became the reason of why she's so aggresively not aggree with Gama-gama way of work, until then. A huge misunderstanding. Still, i think, that was a massive revelation. So, its really make a sense with all of her annoying side, from Kukuru's perspective.

Glad that everything become cool again within them, after finally she told the truth to the whole Tingaara, and, yeah, this is a good beginning, for a better work environment. At the end, i can't help but saying, this episode is a child dedicated too. Especially for the the newly born kid, from Sakuramochi and Dorayaki-chan!

So the answer to how they were planning to redeem Chiyu came in the form of "randomly reveals she had a child all along" lmao I can't say It made me like her or even understand why she was such a cunt towards Kukuru, who is younger than her and obviously experienced less shit in life than she did. If anything, It made me dislike her even more because she is supposed to be a more mature and experienced person when it comes to the pains of adulthood in japanese society, yet she acting like that.

But I guess we can narrow it down to her venting her frustrations towards Kukuru who had it "so easy" in comparison to her (I mean Kukuru getting basically handed the dream job and all because of her family's connections). At least they will get along now ig.

Fuuka as usual being a creepy stalker tho lmaooo that shit had me rolling. Is2g If I was in Chiyu's situation with a sick child at home, the last thing I would do would be open the doors of my home to my creepy ass coworker.

No, you are supposed to understand her position but the anime is pretty straight in showing her actions are not the logical answer to the problem but more of something coming out of her frustrations (And not her being evil), like how Kukuru and his crew are there basically because they were friends with the director instead of working their asses off and having to deal with being a single mom like her. The final message is to be open and to put yourself in the other shoes, and that to do so you need a cooperation of both parties, both Kukuru and Chiya learnt something by this. So yeah, her actions are still wrong

Kukuru is really the embodiment of the Japanese work culture in this episode by not trying to empathize with Chiyu regarding her sudden time-off from work.

Chiyu's single mom revelation makes sense on why she's so frustrated with the Kukuru's handling of Gama Gama, her mistake being trying to settle everything by herself

My point is that this is quite normal in conservative cultures, where marriage and having children as early as possible is considered the best plan for family development. The anime nuances only amplified this. Although I agree, this is extremely early in modern Western views.

Chiyu was fighting hard to get her job. She was also got trauma from her previous job. Both her life and her child are also hanging by a thread by this job. When she looks at the Gamagamas who can get their position at Tingara easily because they've known the president. It makes her think that they are too relaxed because they've got their job easily, they don't have to fight for getting their job like her.

Chiyu also kept everything inside herself too much. She needs to open up more and more to others and ask for their help when she is in need.

Only by knowing others’ pain can you truly understand them. The Guma Guma crew and Chiyu finally understand each other. It’s funny how they went to work together every day but still didn’t know much. Being a mother is hard, being a single mother is hell. Good on the girls for trying out “motherhood” for a day and seeing how difficult chiyu and takeshita have things.

Man, I love Fuuka so much, truly an angel. That was a fantastic episode! We finally got focus on Chiyu and why she is the way that she is and I definitely did not expect her to be a single parent. I have a lot of respect for her hardwork despite everything and Takeshita as well (good to have her back). Not that I excuse Chiyu's behavior, it's just that, I really understand where she is coming from. Though it could all have been avoided if they just communicated and understand each other, but Chiyu's trauma did not allow that until now.

Not only did we get Chiyu character development, but Kukuru as well, since she's always been kind of a hardass as well. Kukuru's learning to be more understanding and kind as well. That suggestion of Kukuru though to take care of a child to better understand Chiyu was hilarious lmao. But hey, if it works it works.

Really looking forward to the next episode, things are gonna go much smoother once they're all friends, the only one left that needs developing is Suwa.

This episode really brought tears to my eyes somehow.

I didn't like Chiyu at first up until the previous episode. Although I think she needs to apologise more for her attitude towards Gama Gama and the blatant disrespect towards Kukuru's grandfather, I think this is a step in the right direction. This reveal made her more human, and really explained her attitude back then. Since it's more understandable, I can sympathise with her more.

My eyes started to water after seeing Chiyu with those heavy eye bags under her eyes. It must be tough raising a child together with your partner, but it's much worse when you're raising them alone. I can only imagine the struggles she's faced. I understand the jealousy of her former co-workers, but for me I really admire and respect mothers and I think it is the job of both the employer and society to own up to that. No babies means no workers anyway.

It was great of Kukuru to try taking care of a baby for just two hours. She quickly realised how heavy it was lol

I hope that Kukuru and Chiyu's relationship can get even better and better. I hope we'll see her one day apologise for her behaviour towards Gama Gama, and also Kukuru for her behaviour towards Chiyu.

But dang, Fuuka sure is mature. Truly an onee-san.

I'm glad I was one of the very few that sided with Chiyu from her very first introduction and didn't jump on the hate wagon with the rest just because she didn't sugar coat her words and didn't kiss the ring of the obvious protagonists.

Kukuru once again shows up she's so hasty to act before actually looking at the bigger picture, acting all high and mighty lecturing Chiyu about not taking extra shifts just because the Tingaara aquarium requires it (Because corps come first and family business comes later, right? Good ol' capitalism).

Kukuru playing house while the aquarium was short staffed felt like really dumb writing. It's hard to believe that she has the time to do her advertising work, fill in at the penguin pen and still have time to play mom with a todler, wich she doesn't have any experience in taking care. I'm glad that the cast is quite vast, because so far she's the one I like the least. On the other hand Fuuka's aproach to talk to Chiyu and reach out rather than being judgmental was the right call.

The translation from Crunchyroll changed from calling the aquarium "Tingara" to "Tingarla" now, what.

Haebaru looked young to have any kids but after the scene where she went to meet up with her son, she does not look young to me afterwards.

But yeah finally I think this is the only episode that I actually liked so far.
