THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Episode 0 is out, no official subs yet, [commie] fansubbed it.

By the way this is last voice performance of Kiyoshi Kobayashi as Jigen, from episode 1 he will be voiced by Solid Snake

Kind of an ironic way for Kobayashi to go out considering this episode's a refresher of Part 5's main theme of keeping up with the times.

The end of an era. But the OG Jigen went out with a bang. Grateful for Kobayashi's great work over all these years. Equally impressed considering his age. I bet he had fun flirting with Sawashiro during the recording for this episode xD Fookin Legend

May he enjoy his retirement to the fullest.

So hyped for Part 6

Not the best Lupin episode I've seen but given how its an Episode 0, I'm fine with this. Excited to see the show officially return next week! Shame that Kiyoshi Kobayashi's era as Jigen is over now but man he was so great over the years, hope he has a wonderful retirement. Jigen's character was really damn nice in this episode and it was a good sendoff.

*Plays the Lupin the 3rd theme music on loop*

Kinda sad this is just an episode 0, but it's still solid Lupin content, nonetheless. I personally prefer the modernized Lupin installments more due to better voice acting, better-looking production value, and more routes for innovation (especially given how Part 5 was stupendous with its take on Lupin vs modern technology). May this franchise never lose its shine.

Kiyoshi Kobayashi was a legend. Wishing him a happy retirement. He made Jigen fucking great, and it'll be hard to fill in those empty shoes.

This is definitely very part 5 style, kinda wasn’t what I was looking for going in. Didn’t really catch my interest in the beginning. By the end it was a great send off though, and I felt a lot more fulfilled with the episode. Ultimately, not hateful, could’ve been a bit more impactful and stylish, but I will miss Kobayashi as Jigen, and I wish him well nonetheless. Excited for the new era and part 6.

Somewhat expecting sorta bittersweet episode but ends up just natural continuation where part V left off. Really enjoyed mainly for the banters and seeing Lupin family together. Animation was very off for most of the part that felt like this was produced within the last minute (and probably not worked by Telecom) but can't say enough how I am glad this exist for a delightful sendoff to Kobayashi.

Jigen Still Disillusioned With 21st Century Tech, Even The Money Looked Modern.
Other Than Movies, Wasn't Sure We Were Gonna Get A New Full Series Again But Am Looking Forward.
Hoping For At Least 24 Episodes.

Not that great in terms of excitement, story, or visuals, but it was an okay watch. I liked the final scene where Jigen has his showdown with Zenigata and the cops. And it was nice to hear the voice for one last time.

Makes me wish Masuyama and Inoue got this kind of sendoff. Naya technically got one but I didn't like it as much as I liked this one. The emotive quality plus playful interactions evoked the feeling of the original series, as it should have, and was pretty perfect. Lupin's speech to Goemon about Jigen was so poignant. I'm really happy Lupin seems to be in the hands of writers that care about it and I'm really looking forward to the next series. Thank you to Kobayashi for all these years and let's see what the son of the original Goemon can do as Jigen.

From what I read, this is an in-between, a send off for Jigen's VA - Part 6 is going to look and feel different.

Watching everyone get drunk together was a lot of fun, like listening to old friends banter. I just hope they don't put in too much modern references and gadgets into Part 6. Sticking with crazy heists and evil schemes is what works best.

The episode was a better one than I expected for giving a tribute to Kobayashi-san. It isn't anything too significant or profound, but it's a natural milestone that pays respect to the history with him and Jigen.

The feature indirectly follows in from the latter part of Lupin Part 5, where Jigen and Lupin discussed their relevance in changing times. The focus is more on Jigen himself, a gunslinger based on cowboys who is feeling his age in an era of plastic weapons and drones. How is a guy with a gun supposed to function in a tech-oriented era? It's a minor crisis, though, because Jigen is always up for fun and adventure, no matter what era he's in. And of course, his skill with guns and firing them is unmatched. He can and does find a way to make his gun matter.

His banters with everyone else are briefer than I'd like, but still decent enough to count. I especially liked his banter with Zenigata, as the two share a brief drink and chat.

Goemon is a curious case to me. I feel he should identify more with Jigen considering he is the most outdated of the gang in his samurai gear and sword. But maybe he needs his own crisis?

On the whole, it was a fond tribute for Kobayashi-san, and I'm glad it treated both him and Jigen with respect.

Is it just me or was the animation quality of this episode subpar to part 4 and part 5?
The trailers did not look like this episode.
Because it's an episode 0, was it made under different circumstances?

Pretty much that. Since it was more of a special, it's sort of separate from the main production. The main series will look different.

This send off for an iconic character (or at least the voice actor) was pretty fun, especially the last few minutes. Jigen really is an amazing character. I also liked how for this celebratory episode, they went back and used one of the first and iconic variations of the Lupin theme at the end of the episode. It really slams into you that sense of nostalgia.

As an aside, the episode did give you some insight into some of the characters and their motivations and personalities, and while their might not have been very surprising revelations, it's still nice to get to know even a tiny bit more about the characters despite their 50 years of content.

Genuinely great send off, hit the right spots of Jigens character and giving him moments with each of the other characters. Mostly a very reserved episode without much action but that really worked for me, it just felt right.

Oh yeah it definitely is. Especially with Lupin changing the jacket at the end. I didn’t finish 5 but I know he does change his jacket around now and again but this seemed like a clear link into the next part. I know part 6’s gonna look different, hope it feels distinct too.

Knowing that this was a send-off to Kobayashi-san certainly made this one an emotional episode. He has been voicing Jigen for so long that it's hard to wrap my head around it. I will welcome Jigen's new voice with open arms, but his Jigen will always have a special place in my heart.

I hope Kurita Kanichi ,Yamadera Koichi and maybe someday the others will get this kind of sendoff too.It doesn't have to be the last sendoff for the Lupin cast

This is my introduction to Lupin. I didn't feel lost which I was worried about. I really enjoyed the writing in the dialogues. All the characters are very interesting. Shame the usual seasonal posters that post in every thread didn't watch this.

I'll miss Kobayashi, he put in a lot of soul in his work as Jigen. However, I'm glad they gave him a good send-off with this episode.

On a side note, when Fujiko offered Jigen to become her partner, was anyone else interested in seeing this, or was it just me? Could be interesting!

50 years of work, wow. That's really something to be proud of, and even with being really old it's still over half his life voicing the same character. I'm glad the studio gave him a proper send-off, that's going to mean leagues in the future for his legacy.

The plot wasn't anything special, but there was a mixture of wistfulness and joy in Kobayashi's performance. Farewell, partner. And indeed that 1971 booze was a nice touch. Also in the final shot the light of the setting sun made the colour of Lupin's jacket unclear, somehow it looked at the same time green and blue, which was appropriate considering the theme, how he's changed and yet stayed the same.
