----------------------------------------
Almost got a slice of life impression this episode. It's actually fun to see the cast just being ordinary people in public rather than their usual military roles. Frederica seems to be enjoying her time the most, like a kid at a candy store.

I think it's actually kinda important for these characters to experience some normalcy in their lives although Shin seems less than excited. Can't forget about Kurena either but it's nice to see her experience some time together with friends.

The atmopshere within the Giad Frederacy is so much different from San Magnolia, that's for sure, and the remaining survivng 86-ers are living the life they're meant to be treated with fairness. With the Holy Birthday celebrated on the streets, everything is lively, but for Shin, he doesn't know how to adjust to daily life without fighting.

Shin and Frederica makes an acquaintance with Eugene Rantz and his little sister Nina, whole prowling around and taking care of the little girl on the streets, shopping like long-lost siblings. The remembrance on Shin's shoulders that he once spearheaded the Spearhead Squadron with the illlusion of them being brainwashed by the Legion, it's a sight to behold of the Reaper. And where that is more evident lies in the conversation between Eugene and Shin about the war against the Legion.

Once the 3rd-Gen Vánagandrs appears on the streets, it hearkens the 86-ers back to their fearful Juggernaut days. Raiden making a meal for Frederica is like an adult babysitting a child who's the former Giad Empress without the help of maid Theresa. She's just a child, but not an ordinary one.

A pretty lax day for Shin, Anju, Theo and Kurena, and everyone enjoyed their time before going back to the battlefield, to where their calling calls them to be. Ernst tries to rid them of their beliefs in exchange for a carefree life, but Frederica understands and stood behind their conviction for Ernst to give in, far it may be "when the war is over". Her true nature is finally revealed to the 86-ers, and her backstory is like Shin's of losing a loved one to the Legion through her Bloody eyes of foresight (so last episode's post-credits link back to this episode).

Pretty much Chapter 3 in a nutshell. Still great.

It had been a month since Shin and his friends were protected by the Giade federation. Shin and his friends enjoy leisurely life in the city, working part-time jobs, and more. The atmosphere of the city of Giade is quite peaceful in contrast to Legion, maybe I forgot the name. For soundtrack hmmm i think this sound good, even the girls talk about something interesting, it's a child-making topic, lol. Shin went to the library only Shin's face was too scary for Nina. Anju are best girl, so yeah that joke I repeated it over and over, lol. So this is a date, Shin and empress, lol. She's not his imouto, lol... And also what the heck with that acting, lol. But yeah, they look like sisters and brother, really like that snow theme. The wound on Shin's neck, seems like this is the first time I've seen it. Shin's responsibilities as a Shinigami? idk, and also that oniichan just Wanto his Imouto can see the ocean/beach Idfk...

My only nitpick is how we got the slider transition while they were playing the ost.

That's the last thing I would've expected.

Seeing the Spearhead squadron living normal lives was amusing to see. Raiden’s working, Theo’s drawing, Kurena’s window shopping, Anju’s taking cooking classes, and Shin’s babysitting visiting the library.

Seeing how Giad treats the war against the Legions and how it differentiates from San Magnolia is pretty interesting too. Giad is a very patriotic nation where the citizens of the nation acknowledges and embraces the war, doing street parades and all that. Meanwhile, San Magnolia tries its best to disconnect themselves from the war, only doing reports of “bloodless” battles and nothing else. After all, San Magnolia’s a nation that can’t fight its own fight.

Seeing the Spearheads choosing to go back to the war is unsurprising considering how that’s what they’re used to. But once the war ends, and if they survive, then they’ll really need to think about what they want to do with their future.

This entire episode had a whole different atmosphere from the usual. Seeing these characters living peacefully was entertaining, even if it was short-lived. This episode covered all of Chapter 3 of the second volume (so we're roughly 60% into vol 2).

ED’s kinda meh. At least the OP is great.

Well, it's always nice to see them out of their usual lives and having a fun time for once in their lives. It's nice to see Shin like that as well. Frederica is cute. I like Giad as well, it's much more peaceful here than what all the 86-ers are used to. Well, peace is not always long-lasting in this world anyways. So...

A pretty nice episode overall. Gotta have to look more into these new characters tho. For some reason, I still have my doubts about them.

Feels so good to have eighty six Saturdays every week again.

A-1 did a great job of handling this part of volume 2. I love how the team’s desire to return to the fight was handled. That scene in particular when the Vanguandr were parading and they all had that little PTSD moment, eager to get back in and pilot.

I remember reading this and being a little frustrated that they didn’t keep the peaceful life they had found, but if all you know is war, how can you ever really escape it

Amazing episode and it’s only getting better from here.

Our boy Shin seems to have developed a fan club at the library it seems.

Nice to see the 86 enjoy some leisure time. Altho it seems like the call of duty is still on the menu. And our Empress Frederica seems to be very mature, how old is she again. That's an interesting ability that she possesses.

Ok this was an interesting episode, I really liked seeing their daily lives now that they aren't on the battlefield anymore, but just like in real life veterans sometimes have trouble adjusting to civilian life.
So Shin and the others will be returning to the battlefield but they will have to go through officer school first.

SOL episode, I love how Nouzen made her cry without saying a single word.
Everyone is pretty much doing their own stuff. But seems like this is not really what they want. War is pretty much everything for them and that's why they want to go back. They gotta make a decision later but let's just enjoy the peaceful moments for now.
OP is a banger!

Yoo, I loved the vibes this episode. Spearhead Squadron just living a normal life was so delightful. Great insert song at the beginning to go with it, set the mood nicely.

But it was clear that this mundaneness was merely transient. Ultimate freedom is if you can choose to return to the battlefield. That irony, doe.

Ernst is such a good dad, even when Shin and co wanted to return to the bloody landscape they're familiar with, he still tries his best to get them to adapt to a life post-Legion war

The SoL scenes with Kurena and Frederica is so cute, shame it's very short-lived as in the LN

Loving the new opening. Its nice seeing the 86 act their age within Giad though. To see them like this just shows how much their former homeland took from them. Kurena was just so damm cute in her scene. Shin's interaction with the kid at the library though sure was curious. Guess he never had many opportunities to do so. The little outing with Shin and Frederica though sure was fun. After a month its nice to see Shin and the others find and forge new bonds and friendships with the developing friendship between Shin and Eugene being a good highlight. The revelation about Frederica sure was complemented well with her determination to banish the ghost of the one that was dear to her and of telling them the truth as well with the latter being something that few kids her age would have been capable of doing. Overall a pretty calm ep that nonetheless did well to showcase not only how the team enjoyed their time interacting with civilians and people their age and finding the true path that they all aspire to take. Though fun looks like the time to enter the field once more is upon us. From the visuals looks like we'll be seeing plenty of new characters and mechs be introduced as well as some fierce battles in the upcoming episodes.

Pretty chilled episode from the standards of what we had until now. All five of them living peaceful and normal lives like what they should have from the very beginning, but being an 86 was sufferable.

After those many years being involved in war and bloodshed it's fairly normal that they will find their peace within it, so for now they will return to battlefield, and Frederica too wants to be with them.

But quite an intense thing she has.

After seeing all the carnage our group of eighty six endured in many previous episodes it's nice to see them all be able to live the good life. Albeit for a short time since the battlefield does still call to them. These quiet days don't suit Shin, Raiden, Anju, Theoto and Kurena. Its just not the life they want to live everyday. Survivor's guilt is deeply rooted in their minds, why do they get to have this peace while so many others died. Its not fair to them trying to just forget and live in this peaceful place. We all knew they couldn't stay away forever. Each did seem to find something to occupy their time each day at the least. I like seeing characters whom I've grown attached to just be able to kick back. Staying there like that any longer wouldn't feel right, so I understand them wanting to go back. Plus we saw last episode with the Federacy military meeting with Ernst that many of their high military leaders want the eighty six under their command. Frederica revealed some interesting introduction about her blood being able to see the past of those she meets. So she knows how much pain our heroes are in not being able to fight anymore. She summed it up perfectly saying putting them in a cage of pity would be wrong after they just expected a cage of prejudice. Let them fight, it's where they belong.

Seeing the 86 gang having a taste of a normal live, with hobbies and the like, was interesting to see since it was a breath of fresh air. Nice charactarization going on with their inner struggle through the episode. The PTSD scenes in particular were probably my favourite part.

Have to say I wasn't expecting "Slumdog Paradise" to play so early through the season, since I was expecting a more emotional/melancholic scene for it or during a latter part of an episode to give more of a punch, though it still worked ok with that early montage right after the OP. As for ED yeah it was pretty meh... I can only hope that like the 1st season they have a 2nd ED since this one doesn´t have any emotional value.

A whole episode focused on Giad side? Thank you 86!

"They've finally escaped a cage of oppression. Now you're going to trap them in a cage of pity?"

Frederica spitting some facts! Her request at the end was very emotional, and once again the 86 made me tear up!

Yes, the vibes this episode! You could just tell that these fleeting moments were going to come an end, one way or another. Shin’s “I’ve rested for too long” was just the icing on the cake to confirm this. I’m glad that the others made their decision in time so that Shin didn’t get ahead of them yet again.

Like many above, I still have my suspicions on the President and the State. Reality is that the following 86-ers are some of the best combatants around and in times of war, these matter a lot. I’m hoping that everything has been genuine so far but I can’t say for sure until it happens.

Princess, or rather the last empress’s, outburst certainly surprised me. Far too mature for her age, is what went through my mind when she was defending their stance but well, she ended up getting a little carried away. I’m not too sure about her supernatural power though, it didn’t feel right for some reason. Anyway, her attempts of playing out the kawaii Imouto was quite funny.

Visuals for the Op are even more incredible than I imagined it’d be and the song is obviously powerful too, just as you’d expect from amazarashi. As for the ED, I might need some more time to get used to.

Once a soldier, always a soldier. It was nice seeing the 86 lead normal lives and try to go about a normal lifestyle but after everything they've been through, I guess they wouldn't feel complete unless they returned to the battlefield to see it through to the very end.

Interesting power Frederica has.

She doesn't say it, but we can tell Anju is still clinging on to her memory of Daiya.

They adapted the Kaie part! Liked how they used cherry blossoms in the dream since that's her personal name.

Great episode showing those who been soldiers most of their lives adapting to civilian society.

I like how Shin explains his stealth entrance as "habit". A true soldier.

Their welcome to the Federal Republic of Giad is a temporary taster of what's available to them when the war ends. It'd be harder for them to re-integrate themselves into civilian life if it didn't happen sooner.

I loved the insert song in the first half of the episode showing the 86 survivors trying to adjust to their "normal" lives now for a period, get a taste of something that's not just warfare and death for once. This was a very different episode in terms of tone to everything before this, and kind of a refreshing one too. Although because of that, the episode itself felt slightly plodding in comparison to other episodes for some reason. The ending song was not that great for me, so that and a mediocre OP song isn't the best start but the rest of the music in this episode was really nice. I wasn't the biggest Frederica fan in the LNs and I'm still not sold on her here so far but hopefully she's better here as the show progresses.

Overall, this was decent. Not among my favorites from this series, infact it's probably in the bottom half, but I appreciate the different atmosphere and tone this episode took compared to everything else in this series.

I wish the 86 could keep living peacefully like they were in this episode, with friends, jobs, and hobbies, but they really want to get back on the battlefield. It's a shame how short-lived their peace was, but fighting is all they know so this decision makes sense.

I really hope they will explain the whole situation with Frederica, because now it looks like some fantasy shit with foreseeing, not to say about her speech and age (well, maybe she stopped aging for some reason idk). Her monologue in the end sounds cringy.

They escaped their cage of oppression from the Republic, and now they’re escaping the cage of pity from the Federacy.

This episode was a great adaptation of Chapter 3 of Volume 2. The atmosphere that the music and direction laid out definitely gave me those bittersweet vibes that 86 is so good at doing. It was fun seeing the gang go about normal lives, but like the episode title says, it’s too late for them. All they know is the battlefield, and the only thing that keeps them sane is their pride on the battlefield. And so they choose to leave their short-lived, peaceful lives behind and enlist in the military.

That nightmare scene with Kaie was adapted brilliantly. I got goosebumps watching it lol.

Frederica shined in this episode. We learned her true identity and her intention to join the others in the military to put her former knight Kiriya to rest.

ED was a little underwhelming, but it does fit the mood of Volume 2, so I’m not gonna complain too much.

It is really nice to see the former spearheads enjoy life in the Giad Frederacy. Raiden took on a moving job, while Anju went for cooking classes, Theo went a different direction of "art" and Shin is getting a lot of attention of the ladies in the library. It was an unexpected chill episode, but the end is definitely making sure that the former spearheads are going to be on the move again? Which would explain some shots in the OP.

The art and animation weren’t as good this episode. Some characters were off-model and their movements felt stiffer than usual. Also a shame that we’ll be getting more screentime for the empress girl. I do not like how she is voiced at all. Regardless, the group’s inability to stay away from the battlefield is realistic and there was enough hints dropped to support my suspicions that the country isn’t as great as it seems.

Finally reached the end of my 86 binge, and what a peaceful way to end for what has mostly been a tense series.

You know these 5 really want to go back to fighting as soldiers again. I assume that they will fight against the Legions, and maybe the Republic in the future (that would be an interesting war). But yeah live as a soldier, die as a soldier, peace is only for resting, that is what their mindset is, and I can't blame them. And yeah Frederica is annoying, but she has mental excellence as well, and woah she has powers too, now that's cool.

Once again, no Lena this episode and she might be losing some screentime for the time being. Our 86ers plus Empress will have an interesting time as they train to become soldiers again. And hell maybe they'll come back to the District 86 someday, that will be very great if it happens.

Of course they can't just jump into normal lives and pretend everything they've been through is behind them. It's sad but it is what it is.
Fred is cute. And she seems to have bullshit ESP powers just like Shin.
I have no idea why they'd even entertain the idea of letting a little girl join the military though, that seems odd.
