Well, that's... pretty disappointing.

Open ending with zero conclusion to any characters' relationships and a last page timeskip that literally ends with kinda in the same way the series started (Hotaru entering the place and meeting with Coconuts).

The series was one great trivia about japanese candy and their history, so, I can't possibly give this less than a 7/10 as much as I disliked this ending. It deserves due credit for the things it did very much right (and the reason I actually started following the series in the first place).

Goodbye, Dagashi Kashi, you will be missed.

First of all, i didn't read every chapter after the ones that have translation out of 4chan.
I don't wanna say i'm really disappointed, but it's kinda it.
Ok, it's a comic manga about Dagashi and all, but at least they could close what they opened in the little romance parts that they had. I mean, he didn't gave an answer to Hotaru's "marriage proposal", and Saya...she didn't even confess her feelings.
I'm sad cause i was attached to the characters, but i'll take it..
Btw yes, i always claimed that OnD 3 ending would be better and it kinda was xD

Definitely disappointing they had plenty of chapters to advance the romance and yet like so many others it goes no where. wonder if they're even gonna bother translating the rest seeing as how the end is a huge letdown. It's manga like this that drag forever and still goes nowhere that caused me to wait until the manga is over just to know how it ends before I bother reading it.

The author frightened to a more conclusive romance?
Meh, is not like I expected more, but this cliche ending is just dull and boring.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

What are you all talking about, the ending is subtle but pretty clear.
She proposed and before leaving said "think about it cuz im serious about it" then she re-gave a wining stick = she promise to come back, and then she actually came back. She is taking the selfish route (as he suggested), she choosed Kokonatsu, genius.

Eh, it's more about the overall inconclusiveness on itself than the implications for the future, the thing we are all talking about. This is your usual, default lazy ending for most SoL with romance sub-plots in them, for all the teasing and build-up we had before this.

I'd argue even stuff like Ranma 1/2's finale was an inconclusive rushed ending (on purpose to troll readers, by all means, but still). and in there we went as far as a
.

It sucked and it was basically the same as always in those regards. The hentai doujin ending is far better and more fitting than this, discounting the porn and everything lol

Missed opportunity to actually make use of some more candy related romantic allegories, which it did for teasing really well in several chapters. All we got in here was what you just mentioned, which is dull and uninspired.

My opinion is still the same. And again, not that the series is ruined, by any means, but it's definitely wasted potential. Still a perfectly good and creative series if you ignore that though.

Yes I understand what you mean and I got that feeling before many times about those kind of came-short, ambiguous and straight unstatisfying endings in anime and manga romance.
Like things never ever advancing... the end, or we love each other but lets remain friends because yes, to the we surpassed all imaginable obstacles and tribulances someone can think of but now suddenly and out of nowhere I dissapear and go to live abroad, goodbye forever, etc.

But in this case, eventhough I know exactly what you all mean, I didn't got that feeling at all, in fact quite the opposite.
The story kept teasing us over and over again about she dissapearing for good at any given moment or he never confessing at all and us readers never finding out for sure how she felt about him, and it really seemed the kind of story that would end in that kind of misterius or ambiguous note. Even when the author trolled for a second about she beeing a product of his imagination it almost got me fooled for a second and I loved how the author delivered the panel that confirmed for the idiots like me that were actually doubting that in wasn't the case... i thought it was genius

But the ending delivered exactly what it made us fear it wouldn't and it did it in its own way, loyal to the storytelling style it had been showing through the series. I wasn't quite expecting a kiss or a 'we are boyfriend/girldfrind now' or even less a 'we got married and now have kids', although I admit Hotaru beeing a mom is comedy gold.

And so in the last 30 episodes or so she confessed quite a few times, of course it was never 100% certain as it was always offered the missunderstanding route option in the last second. All until the last time, in which she straight forward propose marriage and clarify she is serius about it, then she won the ice cream price for a second time and regave him the winning stick wich was for me the highlight of the series, simple and genius and put a giant smile and my face. Danm the story even closed the door on the other girl without the need of a rejected confession or a broken heart.

It all felt so adequate and classy and now that I put it down together to write this it feels even more so, almost like flawless, does it make any sense ?

Oh by the way, Im having a blast with this mangaka's second series Song of the Night Walkers, I'm 10 chapters into it right now and it's as entertaining of a romance as it gets. If you enjoyed this one I strongly advice you to put my last statement to the test and go read it.

Personally, I think the ending was perfect for the series
Kokonotsu made his debut as a mangaka, Pops accepted hos son's decision, Hajime got the (temorary) manager position at Shikada (and hopefully will be the new owner of the store), Saya and Tou were still very present in Kokonotsu's life(and helping him), Beni was much closer to the Dagashi gang as well (that's how I call the group), and of course, Hotaru came back as she said she would.
Yeah, it would be better if it said explicitly that they were together, but I also like how the author made Kokotaru implicitly official (btw I rooted for KokoSaya, even tho knew it wouldn't happen).

I liked the ending. Not exactly corresponding my expectations, but it left me satisfied.

I just think that, if it would be an open ending, at least it could left who Kokonotsu would end up to the reader.

Overall this was a good manga, I like the atmosphere of it and wish there was a third season covering these last chapters.

Time to read Yofukashi No Uta. I'm gonna miss the daily dagashis and the cast.

Didn't really like the ending ngl, sure it's implied Hotaru came back to hook up anyway but why be so roundabout it? It wouldn't have hurt to be more conclusive.

Personally it would have been much better if Hotaru entered the shop and said 'Hey Kokonotsu kun , let's marry' (or something like that ). But I still liked it! Gonna start reading this author's new work as soon as possible! Also before I leave , this manga is not a romance manga but Comedy, Gourmet manga . Sure it has some romantic moments but these moments don't make it a romance manga . Just like Food wars , it has some romance but it NOT a romance manga . Ann another example : Gintama has dramatic moments but it is NOT a drama manga . I just wanted to say that because some people don't pay close attention to the genres . Sure yeah , the author could have made the ending a little bit less rushed but I really don't what people were expecting exactly from such a manga

We didn't get the conclusive ending about romance between Kokonotsu and Hotaru, but in the last few chapters Hotaru also opened herself and Kokonotsu also kinda confessed to her.
Hotaru even went as far as "marriage talk" with him.
Saya has her feelings sorted now.
Hajime becomes the manager. She has been a "Kind Hot Lazy 🥵😆 Onee-san" throughout the manga.
But whatever the end, it left us with possibilities. I'm good.

yeah me too...
I do think the ending could have been better like confession to each other(it's clear that they only love each other no one else) it will happen in the future ok I am good because if the author had ended it without any hints like marriage proposal I would have pissed off for real so I am good, if they author had shown us that they ended up with each other like becoming girlfriend and boyfriend, I would have have given it 8/9 but as it stands it's a Big 7 for me
