Is Reiko suicidal or something? She was going full ham on a dirt track in a scooter without having any experience with off-road driving and she could've gone off the road and into her death at any time, which she almost did. If she wanted to climb Mt Fuji on her Cub she could've done so without the need of almost totalling her bike, sustaining multiple injuries and almost killing herself. She's not a badass, she's a god damn lunatic. |

Yep, the foreman's attitude was a fucking joke. I guess this episode wanted us to see Reiko as a badass so they decided to remove common sense from all characters involved, that's the only explanation I can think of. |

Imagine risking your own life for being too stubborn. I mean, I absolutely like Reiko and her enthusiastic nature but she seriously should take things more easily. Or at least gain some more experience at some low-level mountains with similar ground before challenging fucking Mt. Fuji. Anyways, still another interesting episode. It was nice to see more sides of Reiko's personality and I'm also quite glad to see her relationship with Koguma seems to start developing into something more meaningful than just "Cub partners". z00nex said: I bet that bearded man is the guy who climbed to Mount Fuji. Reiko not only gets money out of nowhere to buy pricy upgrades for a cheap Cub, but also has that kind of money to have a bachelor pad out in the middle of nowhere with all of it's utilities. I expected her to be the more level headed kind of rider, but she's just a reckless teen with a death wish based on pretty much nothing (aside from very "anime" drive of doing something for the sake of proving themselves something nobody questioned in the first place) It made me cringe so hard for her delusional dream to climb Mt Fuji in a supercub (despite that the series claimed someone has done such a reckless endeavor). My biggest pet peeve with this show is that it fails to provide evidence that their characters have had proper bike training that justify their achivements out on the streets and on dangerous terrian like a steep mountain climb without any of the basic motocross wear like elbow & knee pads, proper boots and a full chest protector. And worse of all on a supercub rather than a proper motocross bike with navi tires, a proper monoshock suspension and a longer front suspension. This show goes avobe and beyond on Honda advertising for pretty much no real reason. Maybe the series should be labeled as fantasy if it keeps going with such BS advertising. At this point I'm just sticking with the series and see if the third girl will be a more believeable character. You seem to know what you are talking about, so I'm wondering how hard is it for Reiko to actually ride that uphill 'road'? I doesn't look that steep and it seems she is going too fast to be able to react or steer around the rocks. It seems that if she goes slower and picks better lines, and doesn't get distracted by the scenery, it isn't that hard to make it to the top. And obviously she is using the wrong kind of 'bike' but I feel that a better stance or body positioning would go a long way (based on my experience with downhill mountain biking). I had the same feelings, it was a bad episode, and I happily put the rest up til now at 5s. I have taken all manner of bikes places they should never have gone, and binned them more times than I can count, thankfully only rarely at speed. Aside from the occasional digging them out of mud or needing to pair up and carry them over things (yes you can do very stupid adventures on scooters too, but it is dodgy solo :) ) The physical effort and oxygen can be a legitimate issue when you get higher than accustomed to, but the lack of rider skill was overplayed, and the lack of suitable protection was just bizarre. They made a ridable although tiring trail into waste of 20 mins. Don't get me started on the foreman, equipment checks and using the right gear are second nature to mountain climbers, or at least the ones who come back down. |

Summer vacation, the girl challenged herself climbing up the mountain with the cub only. Not with a motorbike, just the (modified) cub. What a great experience and story Reiko had there. Never expect slightly she got something a big dream like that. Even forcing herself to parted from her family, leaving alone on that hut, while working hard at the Mount Fuji. Oh my, its a good surprise, and quite tough vacation. 180° different from Koguma job previously. Lol. Too bad her actions still not meet all the requirements, and forcing her to try it again later. However, with how she reacted over that huge experience. That's a good sign for her better future. Koguma also got a good lesson from her new girlfriend there. Lets see how well she get over her driving school.... |

I've loved this show so far, but this was a dumb episode. Reiko's idea to climb Fuji on a postal worker's Super Cub is insanely idiotic and over the top on its own, let alone the fact that she and the bike fell so many times but only suffered superficial damages: the way she and the bike went flying on some of those falls, she should have been actually hurt (rather than just ending up with dirty clothes) and the bike suffered damage far sooner than it actually did. That whole situation really stretched my suspension of disbelief, to put things lightly. Then of course we have the foreman not seeming remotely concerned at Reiko's recklessness and instead enabling it the whole way; sure, he helped her with the altitude sickness thing, but did nothing else to stop her even though it was clear he knew she was being reckless (as implied by the constant looks he gave her after she "surveyed the trail"). Oh, and speaking of the altitude sickness thing, they brought that up once then glossed over it entirely for all of Reiko's attempts after that, even though those attempts look like she went further up the mountain than that particular unsuccessful attempt. That being said, the soundtrack once again more than pulled its weight and did a great job of matching Reiko's energy and made for an interesting contrast with the more laid-back themes we get when Koguma's riding her own Cub. |

I didn't expect motocross and rock music in my wholesome comfy slice of life show but, that was great it really fits Reiko, she's a great character, recklessly hardcore though, but I can understand how she feels. Reiko climbing with her cub and turning and stuff in tight corners gave me some anxiety, I know no one is dying on my comfy wholesome show and it was just a flashback but that was still scary lmao. I respect her a lot though, maybe with proper training she can do it. I love Koguma and Reiko chilling in the house, I'd happily live in a house like that, looks comfy as hell. Koguma and Reiko has definitely became much more closer now, Koguma in the sleeping bag looked really adorable. Looks like Koguma will get a full motorcycle license now since her class I license has it's limits. Really looking forward to the next episode! |

Judging by the majority of people in here and in some other anime forums calling Reiko a "Badass" seems like the message of reckless driving wasn't strong or clear enough. This episode pretty much tells any viewer that has absolutely no experience ridding a bike that you can ride at full throttle in an off road terrain with no training on how to tackle this kind of terrain and any kind of accident at these speeds (even if they are quite low speeds) have no actual repercutions aside from getting a dirty overall and the most minimal scratches. The fact that the cub only gets a cracked oil carter at most after being trashed over and over, just promotes the bad myth of hondas being indestructible. |

me thinking the MC major event with her bike will be her falling from it at some point meanwhile Reiko was on a near sudical mission to climb mt Fuji in a summer training arc without much regard from anyone in her safety really don't know how she got out of that with just a few marks episode could be summed up as wow that was a really dumb thing you did |

Girl power!!!!! Reiko is admirable, even if she didn't get her goal, trying to do it is very brave thing to do. I hope she will reach the top of Fuji someday. It's so impossible that she didn't got major injury from all of her failure though, irl what she did is very very dangerous. |

Wow, uh, I did not like this episode at all, lol. This was my iyashikei of the season, but this episode totally broke that. Well, I mostly didn't like this episode because of how reckless Reiko was being, I did not care to watch someone without proper training and protection trying to challenge herself to her death. I couldn't believe that she didn't break any bones after how many times she had fallen off. Her dream isn't impossible, but the way she went about it as if there's no second or third chance was just...way too desperate. And I do agree that it can send a dangerous message. Sure Koguma and Reiko herself agreed that it was dumb, but I really don't think the story was good at all. I'd rather have the writer take a different approach to developing Reiko as a character. |

It's part of the learning process. I couldn't see myself stopping her either for that reason unless perhaps it was my own daughter. For starters, if a boss knows there could be physical consequences, it would be wise not to jeopardize this employee's health just for the sake of letting him/her learn by itself. A job is on the line and if this employee gets injured and is unable to perform the job, someone else must take place either by someone else in the same company adding yet another task to his/her already busy schedule or waste time trying to hire a new employee to fill in the role and also waste more time training the new employee. Secondly, Reiko is still a minor, not a full grown adult and to an extent companies do need to provide the safety of their employees in work hours and this certainly attracts eyes and bad rep if a minor "in care" of an employer gets injured and this kind of story gets out in public, shaming the company for it's poor choices. There's a phrase quite common for japanese people when they meet new people よろしくお願いします (Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu) and it's basically a greeting phrase, but it does have slightly different meanings depending of the context. In work enviroment can be translated to "pleased to meet you, I'll be in your care". If this nameless boss is allowing Reiko to do dangerous stuff on the company's time, he's totally not taking care of his own employees as he should for the sake of the company's rep. Atavistic said: Anyone who believes it "tells" them that is already a fool beyond saving. It's called cartoon physics or anime physics. No animated shows really portray physical effects of many things realistically because it's besides the point and often would be an incredible drag. Hell, even most live action content doesn't. The problem lies in the tone of the series, where in previous episodes it felt more down to earth and relatable to every day ridding. These cartoon physics come out of the left field and are totally disonant to what the show represents. Atavistic said: Seriously though - Where are all these morons that are legitimately proclaiming "A character in a show can do it so that means I can too with no consequences!" You completely missed the point of my comment in that pharagraph. I wasn't claiming that there were actual people claiming that if a cartoon character can do stupid acrobatics without repercutions they could do it too. I was talking that the particular reckless story in this episode about Reiko, didn't have a clear message of not to act just like her due to the lack of real repercutions to her behaviour and provide good judgement. True that a lot of shows don't portray realistic repercutions (as broken bones, or other kinds of injuries), but unlike you, I wouldn't call it as some sort of golden rule that "every" show plays it, there are plenty of shows that do make their characters carry on the consequences of their recklessness like Iketani from Initial D that stops running downhill races after an accident with his silvia. Regarding that these kinds of shows aren't kind of educational and therefore they don't have any responsability to warn the audience or at least to discourage viewers to do the exact same reckless acrobatics you are partially right. But again, this show represents many companies such as the animation studios, the anime comitee and it also uses Honda's name quite often, and them getting bad rep because some unexperienced rider hurt themselves by copying what Reiko did would cause bad PR for them. In these cases a simple disclaimer at the start of an episode is quite enough and speaks a lot about the sense of responsability of these companies. Even Initial D had these disclaimers at the beginning fo each episode, that it was just a fictional story and it encouraged the audience to drive safely. |

0/1000 Hated it. Big pile of shit. Or filler if you prefer. Reiko is not the main lead, she does not deserve a full ep for her. Period. I like her, but as the FRIEND of the REAL lead. FF whole ep, filler is trash and Koguma not learning/living something new is a waste of time. Period. Hope it's the only one of the season because if not ... it's gonna be a huge drop and a freaking waste of potential. (-_-) |

It doesn't help that a week before this anime aired I saw a mother cycle crash happen right in front of me.I wonder what Reiko is made out of because the number of times she fell so was bound to have some injuries, falling from a bike isn't a joke. Years ago i fell on a scooter i broke me dumb during the fall and had a nasty wound on my leg, also feww a couple of times doing slow maneuvers on a Honda CB650 but since it was slow i had no injuries but you don't need to go fast to injure yourself on a motorcycle. If you have proper gear you can protect yourself from open wounds and maybe broken bones but as fr as i could tell Reiko was only wearing a helmet. I have to say that i admire her determination tho, usually people would use a dirt bike for that climb which makes it a lot easier. Oomyung said: i mean monkeys can eventually make Shakespeare.Know body mentions the guy who climbed mt Fuji with Monkey? How did they help? I will say those falls reiko took were nasty. I'm no expert on proper bike protection but I don't think work attire and a helmet are going to cut it when it comes to protection. I like this show but I agree with what I've been reading about how dumb this episodes plot was. If your going to have a character do something reckless like at least have them where proper safety attire. Especially on a show marketed at teens and young adults. My mother has been a nurse for longer then I've been alive and has seen quite a few deaths and severe injuries from motorcycles. They are serious business just like cars are and shouldn't be used in the manner shown here. Mod Edit: Merged duplicated posts; please use the edit button. |

What I like about Super Cub show is absolute realism and perfection in the tiniest details. All the mechanical things are perfect. The sounds, the sounds are superb, so realistic, it is insane. All splashing of water in the glass, fridge door, floorboards. With the oil change, the sounds are so realistic, you can smell the old oil, the new oil, the engine, the tires, the trees. When the characters smile, they do it exactly at the right moment and it in uncanny, because you did it the same in your first scooter. What I hate about Episode 5. It is not realistic. Disclaimer. I ride scooters and motorcycles for decades. I'm an org in scooter community of 4000 members. I personally did a lot of long trips on scooters and motorcycles including unpaved roads and a pan-continental trip. The scooter movements on the unpaved road are wrong. A scooter does not slide left before going into a turn. It doesn't slide left without turning the handlebars. What they tried to picture is the read wheel skid, but they did it wrong, as a defying physics two wheel skid. With a two wheel skid she will be in the ground in a split second because there is no control. Defying physics because her inertia vector suddenly changes to 20 degree left without any reason. A scooter doesn't fly two meters after hitting a rock when going 15 km/h. If you fly 2 meters and fall on the rocks in the gear she has on her, you'll need a doctor and probably a cast. If she is flying and falling so often and hard, why the hell she doesn't slow down. She has no goal to get on the top fast. Only to get there. If Reiko falls and able to get up like nothing happened, why she doesn't get back on the Cub and continue? Why she needs to turn back and risk her neck again next day? It is not a "no foot on the ground" challenge. The road downhill is more difficult and dangerous than uphill. Any motorcyclist knows than. They totally cut how she gets back from the mountain. If the Cub is gone, the engine, frame are destroyed, how she gets home? This is nontrivial challenge, to transport a broken, leaking motorcycle. Met be more challenging than going uphill. And most importantly, why she doesn't wash her uniform? |

If Reiko still feels confined living alone in that garage house then she's just like those people who cry for getting A and not A*. Reiko's literally living the dream life of many people. It's fine that Reiko wanted to climb Mt. Fuji in her super cub but the way she was riding was pissing me off. If she rode more slowly avoiding those noticeable big rocks then she could've done it but instead she was lost in her thoughts while riding. |

I'm shocked that so many people are watching this anime and taking everything literally. "Missing the forest for the trees", right? Despite telling a Reiko side story it was as much about the Koguma, continuing to develop her by contrasting with Reiko. Koguma herself even explains near the end how she is different from Reiko and we can understand more than what she actually tells us because we've watching her. She probably would be able to climb the mountain but she don't need to. But seriously... I'm still kinda speechless that so many people watching an episode about "climbing he mountain" and didn't get it! |

That Akira shot though, it's glorious. I'm surprised no one noticed it. I've watched enough Pikes Peak Hill Climb to know that climbing Mt. Fuji with a modded mail bike is an obscenely stupid idea, especially without safety equipment. At least she didn't get herself killed. |

Reiko has shown herself to be a crouching tiger, hidden badass |

And what Reiko did was to attempt to climb Mt. Fuji. Reiko, you can do it. And it is also very cute |

WatchTillTandava said: Anyone who believes it "tells" them that is already a fool beyond saving. There's a difference between thinking a character is "badass" in the context of a fictional show and actually sincerely believing their actions would successfully translate to the real world and everything would be fine and dandy with no repercussions. It's called cartoon physics or anime physics. No animated shows really portray physical effects of many things realistically because it's besides the point and often would be an incredible drag. Hell, even most live action content doesn't. Seriously though - Where are all these morons that are legitimately proclaiming "A character in a show can do it so that means I can too with no consequences!" Either they don't exist and the people warning of this phenomenon are being delusional and paranoid, or they do exist in which case they're just idiotic and I don't really feel it's the responsibility of a TV show/film/video game/whatever to prevent or police their idiocy. Thank you for having one of the only reasonable comments on this post. Yes, this is an anime not a PSA on how to safely drive a motorbike up a mountain. The older guy she was working for showed some concern for her safety (with his eyes and pauses) but you could conclude that he had been a fellow risk-taker himself and knew that there was probably nothing he could tell her to hold her back. Reiko was determined to get up that mountain and I'm sure he was cautiously rooting for her. A great episode to round out Reiko's character but also to inspire Koguma to push further outside of her comfort zone. |

Go, Reiko! Go! I quite enjoyed this episode even if Reiko never made it to the top. Happy to know that Koguma will be getting her motorcycle license. Ah, yet another anime that's encouraging me on to start riding a motorcycle like I've been wanting to. ;o; |

Hm.. Is that how it supposed to go?.. To her to fall with her bike again and again?.. I just have no idea, if that is what was supposed to happen, or not.. Maybe it is what she signed up for.. It is a mountain, after all.. Well.. I have no idea.. Cursed cub, hm.. Wonder if this will come up later.. But I think this is not this kind of anime to make something tragic out of it.. But who knows.. Will see.. |

Great. Cute Girls Doing Dangerous Things on murdercycles. Remind me to keep my daughters away from this anime! Seriously though, trying to ride a Super Cub up the trails on Mt. Fuji!? Please don't try this at home. These are trained, professional anime stunt characters. And what is with all these teenage girls living alone? I get that it's a thing in Japan and that a certain number of high schoolers live alone or in dorms or apartments. But where are their families? Where do they get their money, as meager as it may be... The answers are in the light novel and manga: Reiko is living in her family's vacation cabin, because she wanted to be independent and prove that she could live alone. She takes after her father who traveled the world when he was young. Reiko's family is relatively wealthy and well-connected. Reiko is an otaku, but instead of anime, games, or cosplay, she is a motorcycle otaku, spending all her time tinkering, reading about, or riding her motorcycle. Koguma's father died when she was young. When she reached the age of 16, her mother, having run through the life insurance money, abandoned Koguma with a note reading, "Bye." Koguma told her principal, and they made arrangements for her to get a one room apartment in a women-only apartment complex, and a scholarship for school that includes a stipend for living expenses. She had to pass an exam for the scholarship, which she did despite being only an average student. Koguma eats bread and packaged lunches with a little fruit and apple juice as a nutritional supplement. She put enough money aside to be able to afford the 10,000 yen (less than one hundred bucks) for the used Cub. Koguma seems to be in denial about all the charity she receives. Maybe she is aware, of it, but politely goes along with everyone else. Shino sells her a Cub for ten thousand yen, then throws in a new helmet that is worth forty thousand yen or more, and the gloves are not cheap either! Then he does her first two oil changes for 500 yen (5 bucks) each time! Her teacher finds her this job as a courier that seems to have been made up just for Koguma. Another teacher brings her a front basket for her Cub. Koguma is a very thrifty person out of necessity. But the local community is looking out for the girl who has "nothing." And so an anime about a girl who gains independence with a motorcycle becomes an anime about a girl who finds friends and community via her motorcycle. |
