THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I have to say that it was pretty amusing. I grew up watching some of those old musical black n' white classics. So it kind of ended up bring back memories of those. Well, at least this one was a bit easier to follow I thought. :) |

I liked it a lot! Had to watch it more than once tbh. The first time I saw it I went WTF WTF is this O_o Catchy song and amazing piece of animation. Just consider how difficult it must have been to animate it. It's from 1930.... |

Well you are certainly right as it must have taken so much love and care for all the animators of that age from accross the world. Unfortunatly due to the likes of Disney there are so many lost or unknown gems from that era, but for people like us we have the opportunity to discover and share |

does anyone know much about the song? It reminds me of those nasal olde-time Francophone American tunes filtered through a peculiar Japanese approach. The Japanese have always seemed quite fond of the French... any experts in the house :< cute vid tho |

Nice short. Could barely understand the girl though. I liked how they used cut out paper instead of drawing. |

Well, the entire thing is just boring in my opinion, even for an old one like this. |

Like with the other Urashima Taro the visuals are really weak while the music is actually pretty catchy. I've really been enjoying watching these old animations I grew up watching old black and white cartoon episodes on VHS tapes and even have a cartoon collection DVD set of really old western cartoons from the late 30s and 40s. I think its really cool how animation in both the west and in Japan has evolved over the decades. |

Not much to it tbh, I've seen older film far better than this one. This one feel very cheap, mainly because It reuse some scenes from The Golden Flower. 2/10 |

It was nice. I don't know why it scored so badly. The relativity angle of it should be enough of a signal to stay away from rating it. I mean, OBVIOUSLY in comparison to today's anime it would fall short of story, art, sound, character or content. Is this score based on a comparison to it's contemporaries? Even so it was cut out animation. Kogane no Hana was featured in it but they're entirely different shows at their core. One of them has story and the other is a video that accompanies music right? It clearly says it features Eiko Hirai. The descriptor at the beginning of the video also states "A School Song". I don't know. It's seemingly boring now but I bet most things were entertaining back then. If someone can justify why it's okay to make the comparison or rate it even after knowing all the context please reach out. |
