So good to see this anime back! Joe's still how I remember and living the life of a fighter although he goes by the alias 'Nomad' now. He still retains his tough guy attitude although he has to deal with media attention now.

The amount of hype poured into the media can be a bit overwhelming. However, I think this episode felt quite real that explores the life of a fighter. Background scenery looks impressive so far this season too.

Can't wait for more!

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEE...to the continuation of the Dark Horse of Spring 2018: Megalo Box!

Good to recap Gearless Joe's win over Yuri from Season 1, and now with him being named as "Nomad" after a 7-year timeskip, his age shows with disheveled expressions.

The symbolism with the werewolf that represents the old Joe, it's such a stark contrast of how much the older Nomad has all but fallen from grace, as depicted by the underground boxing duels against opponents stronger than Yuri. Good thing that Nanbu is still around to supervise Nomad, but he has a long way to go.

The old-style OST is still as memorable, even more so with Spanish music and mabanua is back.

Looking forward to yet a modern classic!

OH YESSS... Joe is back.. I repeat Joe is back but there's a difference that he has a new Alias, Nomad instead of Gearless Joe. I finished season 1 last month. So, it's still fresh in my mind. Immediately after completing S1, I wanted more and it's here.
Great to see that Joe is still the guy we all know and love. I wanna see him rise and shine once again. Also, Nanbu is still here for Joe which everyone would appreciate to have someone on your side.
The animation aesthetic is still top notch in this show with that god tier OST. Missed it ngl. I'm looking forward to this show so much. I can't get enough of it. Great first episode.
Welcome back JOE

Except that's not quite Nanbu, but an illusion of him that Joe pictured in his head. It's more like Joe is having hallucinations of Nanbu to hold himself together, which implies there may still be hope in him.

Overall, I like this episode. This episode alone portrays a deep significance of what Joe has been struggling with as he slowly gets back to his feet. Production is still as great as the 1st season, and I can't wait to see more!

As someone who has been waiting almost 3 years for this season I could not be any happier that the first episode raised my expectations higher than they already were. Just from the first season I would call this show my favorite of all time and with the second season starting out with so many confusing details and places they could take the show, I could not be happier to see our stray dog back into the ring...

Well, you're right about that but even having that mental support behind you even if it's an illusion give you enough to move forward in your life. Dontcha think?

A somber return to the world of MegaloBox. Joe looks about as rough as can be. Taking pills just to get by, drinking like a sailor drowning in it. I liked this premiere showing us how far he's really fallen from where we last saw him. Joe has taken a tumble from the top of the boxing world. We did get a few snippets of information about how things are now. Joe leaving after losing that exhibition match against whom would become the second Megalonia champion, that guy Edison Liu. Hope we see that rematch by the time this season is done. Chief came in and rocked Joe something fierce. Made him face his truth about how he's run away from everything. Glad that Chief came to knock some sense into Joe, literally.

Damn Megalo Box S1 was really fucking good and S2 seems even more promising. Seeing Joe like this is kinda sad tbh, it looks like he's having hallucinations (?) of Nanbu. I'm also glad they kept the hand-drawn (at least it looks like it) style. Joe seems stylish with the hair and beard but again it looks like he's depressed.

Well so far it's great, looking forward to the next eps.

@eplipswich I agree with that @Pre_Yum said, even if Nanbu isn't physically around to support Joe. Even if it was just an illusion of Nanbu, it's a given that he has shaped Joe's progress as a boxer throughout the entire Season 1.

Just saying :)

I thought Nanbu having his eye was a production mistake at first lmao. I guess he's just a hallucination. I don't know what to feel about this sequel to be honest, the first season had a good conclusion. ED was fine, I liked the first season's ED a lot more.

Seeing Nanbu again I forgot he gave up his other eye but then it hit me after the scene where Joe threw the bottle at him. I forgot how much I miss the setting and appearance of this show, can't wait to see where this all goes.

To be honest my expectations for this season were not very high, since I was skeptical of how they would go about continuing an already complete story. However after seeing this first episode I'm somewhat hyped for what they've got in store for us now.

The pacing of the episode was great: the way they started from the events of the first season and gradually moved up to the time skip was well built. The mood and atmosphere in this episode were just phenomenal, this show manages to do so much with so little.

So happy to see this back again!
Looks like he's in a bit of a dump can't wait to see this underdog story again
I do feel that he will die at the end of this since we saw the lone wolf dead on the street or it could of been a sign to be careful

It’s so surreal to see Megalo Box come back and I couldn’t be anymore happy!
This episode almost made me tear up. Seeing Joe in this state is so disheartening and all those hallucinations of Nanbu just hit so hard. The whole segment between Joe and the lost wolf on the road carried so much weight. So many questions I have in regards to his mental health and any other character from season 1 if they even come back at some point.
Otherwise, pretty strong first episode! I’m very curious as to how this story will unwrap.

I was not expecting to like this. The original is good, but had a number of issues with it. It rushed some really interesting story lines with its fantastic supporting cast in favor of Joe's story, which was largely predictable. Joe himself for most of the season, to me, seemed more a vehicle for the plot than a complex character in his own right.

Nomad feels different. The style is still there, but it feels like there is more substance. He is very much a haunted man, and that alone provides enough to make me interested in his story this time around. The new characters introduced hold a lot of promise themselves.

Kinda depressing to see Joe like this. But the overall episode the same old boxing spirit.

If the ending song of this episode will be the one for the rest of the season. Will be a shorter episode for me. Unlike the first season that was good to watch the full episode, because the OP & ED was great.

Same Megalobox quality and ole school quality and retro styling. Nomad is a sad look for Joe, but perhaps inevitable. Look forward to the rest of this big time.

Yes, those vibes! Fantastic to have this back!

Nomad, from Gearless Joe. Certainly quite the stark change. Pretty depressing first episode, all in all. Good to see he's still got his pride though. Rigged matches really are terrible, I'm amazed the crowd could buy into that honestly.

It was sad to see the bear killed in the end there.

Now, where to next Nomad?

This episode hit hard even though I watched season 1 so long ago. Did Joe's pals all die in that typhoon?

Wow that was a very depressing start to the sequel. Joe goes by the name of 'Nomad' now, a wandering boxer who shares the burden of a murky past. I guess that typhoon had something to do with what happened to Joe's friends? Although it was mentioned that it only took place one year ago. There was something else that Nanba's, well... (spirit should I say...?) mentioned to Nomad about something taking place five years ago? Was it a significant occurrence that has turned Joe, or rather Nomad now, like this?
Either way I'm glad this show is continuing... behold M̶e̶g̶a̶l̶o̶ ̶B̶o̶x̶ Mega Low Depression! (xD!)

Yo guys, just finished episode 1, I saw some of y’all talking about Jow and Nanbu back tighter but Nanbu had no eyes in season one at the end, I think maybe he died 5 years ago and the only way Joe was able to keep himself standing was by forgetting his past, Megalomania, his friends, his life with alcohol and drugs...I think the whole season will be about him accepting is past probably going back to Megalomania winning and getting is life together...just my theory

I don´t know if it is due to the magic of being the first episode (which is always the one with the most effort behind) but the animation, choreography and even the writing were a huge improvement over the first season. It was a really great episode in every aspect.

The music is still godlike, however I do wonder how the opening is going to sound like. The previous one was pretty badass and old school, but I think something more melancholic will fit more, considering Joe´s mood. The ending song was really pretty.

When this was announced a few years ago my reaction was "why", dont get me wrong I am all for it but I really dont feel like it was necessary.

I just dont want this to become one of those shows that did not end where it should and ends up becoming bad but only time will tell and with good writing that can hopefully be avoided.

Mm the retro grungey aesthetic... It's wonderful. Very pleasing on the eyes.

I don't really remember a lot of the details of the first season... I hope my memory comes back as it goes along. It took me a few scenes before I realized that old guy wasn't actually there. I was kind of worried because I didn't understand why this show would need a season two, but episode one is quite promising. Feels as though there's an earnest reason to continue the story. I'm hopeful.

The OST!! I forgot how great the sound of this show is. Can that Japanese voice actor fluently speak Spanish? I couldn't tell.

Man, that was fucking rough. Our boy Joe looks just about as bad as a person can look. I mean, seven years is a long time to skip ahead, but I guess we'll get filled in along the way. All around this was just a sad introduction to this season.

That being said, it was also brilliant. I loved every moment of it, and I look forward to what else is coming our way.

It is only after reading some replies here it hit me that those pictures of Nanbu were actually hallucinations of Joe. Goes to show my man is going through some sorts of depression, now that he doesn't know what to do with his life anymore. He's looking for the same level of thrill and excitement like before...
