THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
First episode is out on Crunchyroll.

I personally like the visual style of the series as it highlights more of its time setting. We got some action and combat right off the bat along with an introduction of the main cast.

Looks like the anime has a creative usage of weapons but I'm still very curious about the story. Imo, it's hard to say what direction this anime will go but definitely has my interest. Oh and I kinda like the soundtrack too.

Crunchyroll premiered the episode early today.

As is shows set in the post-Meiji Era, it tends to be faithful, though the 20th Century British Empire-like mix is not ticking my box.

Considering that this is a by-product of Bushiroad, I'm not having the best of expectations. But the presentation from yet another new studio (Bakken Record) is plenty fine.

This feels like a bad mix of Mars Red with the vampire aspect, plus the demonic rituals that are similar to Gibiate in some way or another. This is just first impressions, and also an original show, so the story could go anywhere.

I think this was a nice first episode. It had some action at the start and close to the end. Looking forward to seeing more of this. ^^

The art style is pretty good, especially that opening sequence grabbed my attention really quickly. This story takes place in the year 1931. So, things are obviously taking place in an old era. Yuki seems like a serious girl while her little sister Asahi is so adorable. The story has my interest for sure.
Pretty solid first episode. Also, the OST is amazing. Really liked it. Looking forward to this show.

The OP is amazing, I LOVED it. I'm glad they got RAS for both the OP and the ED. I liked the first episode. Those assasins' weapons were sick, especially the umbrella. The animation was better than average.

Creative and interesting for sure. Wouldn't call it great so far, from a first episode, but can see it has promise so far.

I have to say that i'm pleasently surprised.

I watched the trailer and thought it was gonna be bait, like what MAPPA did with AoT s4, given this studio's track record, not having made any TV series, etc.

That opening sequence was beautiful, the production was top notch, the gritty visuals and art style worked amazingly, and i'm glad they re-used it in Yuki's transformation later on in the episode, hope that's a re-occurring theme.

I still don't really understand the story, I don't know if Yuki and the gang are working for or against the government, I think that should be cleared up later down the road.

We got just enough information on this world in my opinion. The setting, the reality of it all, and the types of things that go down were all laid down neatly, and didn't feel forced. We even got a bit of backstory, which was nice, it adds depth to Yuki's cold character.

Great episode overall, I hope it stays consistent!

Had to think of Kozure Okami when I read the synopis.

Fine start, but please, no rushed ending where most is left only half-solved xD

This was an interesting premise. Loved the visuals, setting is quite interesting and the action scenes were really cool. OSTs were also good.

Sawa's a really beautiful woman and that little kid is cute. I like Sawa's merged form. The other two assassins seems amusing too.

Really liked this start, looking forward to more.

It was a pretty good 1st episode, with good OST and beautiful fight scenes. I hope they don''t make it look trashy or lost as the story progresses.

With luck, this will be a good show

Absolutely love this premier episode. It's the series I was most looking forward to from 2021's catalogue, and this episode did not disappoint in the slightest. From visuals, to sound. Interesting characters given brief introductions and enough plot context is shown to get you invested without giving you too much to start out with. This is a perfect first episode for me.

This is a really solid first episode. Quite a simple story about revenge, but that end scene really has me intrigued about the relations between characters.

Seems like this will be a sold time

It was a pretty nice first episode. The Meiji era with supernatural power and spy-theme was very interesting.
RAISE A SUILEN got both the OP and the ED. This gonna be epic especially the ED which I really like it.

OP and ED from RAS.

I think I'm the same with you. I'm not really feeling it. The color scheme feels off to me for some reason, and there doesn't seem to be anything that really stands out to me in this episode. But yeah, I'll watch more of it and see how it goes.

Cool setting and it has a nice aesthetic to it. I’m not really sure I got what’s going on with all those monsters and stuff, but it was cool I guess

And a cliffhanger already? Lol
Although I’m still not sold on this one

Welcome, April.

So, this show follows historical aspects.
And there's blood.

Perfect!!
I'm so excited for the next episodes!

Nice OST and animation, btw.

And this is how you make trashy seinen.
Like there are enough interesting ideas and concepts but the execution is a bit uneven and sloppy at times.
Also too much edginess for my taste and I hate the "Did you get this detail we putted too much focus on it? It will become very very important later!".

Looks like something to keep your eye on this season. The plot seems interesting enough with secret organizations fighting each other and some humans having the ability to transform using animals. The art style is different and I’m a little on the fence about it currently. The animation for when the characters fought in their animal forms was a little rough, especially around the blue flames and bone jaws.

Given the transformation sequence I would say that this is basically a dark themed Edo period Mahou Shoujo.

I also got some Kimetsu vibes with the music and sometimes art, maybe they are going for a similar delivery. Pay attention that I didn't write that it copies Kimetsu, but that it just applies its vibe

The visuals and the music generally were really great, especially when used in the opening sequence. The aesthetic during that scene and the battle near the end felt really traditional with the samurai theme but modernized well. I am very curious though on what particular direction the series plans on going with and this episode did not make it clear much. Am interested to see how the future episodes would clarify this further, and hopefully it's a direction that will keep me interested and excited for the rest. I see some potential in this for sure with the visuals and the setting, but it also has a chance to end up being a flop too if the writing ends up being a downright mess or slogfest over time.

Good start. I liked the visuals and its historical setting, the character's design also seems cool. It has some secret organization and supernatural stuffs going on which is interesting enough and if it's a revenge story, im up for it.

Have some really good potential, hope it stays consistent.

Literal dogshit. The PV had me thinking this would have a unique artstyle and some interesting visuals, turns out 90% of the show looks like asscheeks. Horrible direction. Bland score, edgy non-sense going on for no reason(the whore killing the guy for no reason other than the coolness factor for example).

I know old Japan married at a young age like most countries in the past, but this girl is a literal toddler. Is this normal? Intended? I know it's anime, but come on. What the fuck?

Generic fog-filter garbage that half-asses a unique artstyle, presumably two times at maximum in its entirety.

Seems like a lazy attempt to capitalize on KnY's popularity.

Literally just go watch Mars Red, does everything this show attempts to do better and goes way beyond.

"Awoooo!" howled Holo. Fear gripped the men. Even Lawrence stepped back. Should they have
seen her fangs, he had prepared a cover story: that all sufficiently angry women seemed to bear
fangs.

See, Mars Red, this is what a modicum of effort looks like. Not as much effort as, say, Mappa or PA Works put in when they did their Meiji/Taisho era shows about clandestine groups of vampires/werewolves fighting werewolves/vampires, but still an understanding that the secret agents going on missions to actually do things is a lot more fun and engaging than the adventures of Potato McStoneface, bureaucrat for hire. Heck, there's a murderous prostitute here with a automatic crossbow in her umbrella. A dude has a lightsaber just, uh, because? They're not even meant to be the highlight of the episode either. They're the side bits.

It's definitely trying to lean more into artistic style over raw animation strength, which is to say it's not going to be showing up on any feature reels for impressive action sequences any time soon. Hitting the pause button to recite a haiku is not the approach one takes to wow with visuals. The end bit with seemingly a main antagonist dude covered in a python, cackling over a pipe organ was also a bit overly corny in a show already trying to be League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I also find either lightsaber dude or killer whore to be far more fun characters than the titular main one, who mostly gets a by this week for not chewing up the scenery and competently murdering a werewolf friend or whatever. Not so much being a character I want to see more of as neither being a bore nor irritant.

I'm not the biggest fan of the pacing in this first episode but I feel like they were forced to introduce a lot of concepts in one episode which led to almost frantic pacing. Everything else from the art style, premise and characters is all fairly interesting, I figured this would be a Lady Snowblood reimagining at first and while it kind of gets that in some aspects like it being a revenge story and the whip chick is very similar to a character in the manga design wise this is a completely original product using that idea as a template.

Hopefully this isn't a show bogged down by production time and is rushed to hell in future episodes because this definitely has potential to be really good.

I'm interested, but that episode felt a bit... weird.

Her transformation felt weird, pacing felt off and the sound mixing feels a bit wack in this, the character's voices where slightly too low and sometimes gets buried behind the music and other sounds sometimes and that bothered me a bit.

But still, i like the look of it for the most part and I'm intrigued to see where it goes from here so it was a fine first episode.
