Oh no, of course not. I didn't intend for it to mean a romantic relationship (despite how contradictory the term husband is). I just meant a family in general. Bounded by the roles of a family. She saw them as her two dads and judging the roles of a family as an AI, it's likely she came to the interpretation they were married. Regardless of romance or not

It's just that if they were a same-sex couple, then the story of how one of them went to the girl without any problems would be quite problematic. Although as far as I can see, people are already discussing whether there could be any feelings between them or that they were both in love with that woman.

Oh fr-? I thought it was kinda clear they both had feelings for the woman. But there was no doubt they were just two bros with a daughter together. Respect for the homies.

Tbh I was really disappointed by the episode, it took a really wrong turn. I was really hoping for a different and innovative anime, but that train crashes. Really, an AI girl?? This show did such an amazing job with world building, character design, and the building of a central theme around serious real-world issues and mental health problems. They decided to run a knife through all that hard work in this episode by presenting some cringe sci-fi elements.

So these guys decided to play god and because of their actions, 4 girls are getting traumatized trying to stop other girls from committing suicide.

Why did they create Frill? To deal with the stressful workplace? They could have gotten a pet for that or if they wanted a kid, they could have adopted. I just don't understand their past course of actions

I don't understand this episode :( everything is great until this episode. Acca & Ura-Acca backstory makes everything confusing! I rather didn't know this -_-

Don't the girls have no reason to fight anymore? They've all been working on trying to cope with their friends' suicides...but then this ep just goes "yeah Frill's been making girls kill themselves."
I feel like it makes everything the girls have learned up to this ep pointless. Why keep fighting anything when you can just accept some girl in a box makes other peoples' friends die?

Also I swear to god if Frill's friends are bugs because of some rogue AI/tech pun...lol

Why is everyone crying so much about the show getting worse because of this episode? It didn't get any worse, because the series both told about suicides and related problems, and continues to tell. How do you feel about reading books that reveal important social topics with a fantastic background and a certain villain? From the presence of the villain, the topics do not cease to be considered. The series has already shown all the important social problems with suicide, but it has its own internal logic, which must be brought to the final. Now there is a problem: the girl's own " I " must be freed from the temptation of death, which here has received a physical shell, but has not ceased to be it. Really, it's funny to watch the discontented. I am more than sure that more than half of the dissatisfied people do not have a clear idea of what the end should have been, how the story should have turned out. Stop thinking so immaturely. And yes, the main characters have already had psychological injuries, but now they will have to face a problem that may one day ruin them if they do not deal with them.
This is an allusion to growing up and overcoming their psychological traumas so that they can walk through life easily and freely.

"Being uncontrollable is the essence of femininity". No phrase suits this episode better than said. We often hide our responsibilities in the face of our arrogance. That's what Acca and Ura-Acca did with creating Frill just as some stress pass time. Thinking they had her in complete control. Only if they had acted in time to notice those changes in Frill, they wouldn't have had to go through all this.

A female no matter who enters in their beloved life only to steal their place will try everything to eliminate them. As they say a woman's jealousy knows no bounds.

With everything that occurred, what terrified me the most was how Himari tried to fill in her mother's role for Ura-Acca as a partner. What sort of actions led to that conclusion? And how did she die? Does Frill take on the female desires to tempt them with death?

Also Ura-Acca burned frill to a crisp in fit of rage. Thus wisdom befell in the depths of madness.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

I don't like this kind of development, because it looked like they would attempt a rushed ending.
Next EP, please, do not end the anime (yet). Make a 2nd season (or multi-EP OVAs, or a feature-length movie) to properly end this anime instead. 1EP to conclude all the multi-layered mysteries (Frill, the Death Temptation, Koito's death, Neiru's situation, Momo and Rika's current situation) in just one EP is just not going to work.

So two episodes to go (if my twitter feed is correct).

This is heading to Serial Experiment Lain / Elfin Lied / Babylon / Car crash ending....

They've either lost the plot or are trying to be too clever with the plot twists...

WTF has happened to Rika & Monoe - it's as if they never existed, not a text, visit or anything to check up after they're told they have finished their quests...

I'm taking 2 points off the score I was going to give it unless they can pull something decent out of the clusterfuck they've created since Episode 8.

I actually really loved this episode, it was really interesting and intense.

I have no idea how they're going to manage to finish everything in one (or two?) episodes though. I still don't understand how Neiru's business is connected to everything, I don't understand what's going on with the teacher and Ai, and so much more. Maybe if there were like 16 episodes in total that would give enough time to explain the everything.

And if they're choosing to make the final episode on the Blu-ray version, that just doesn't make sense to me. Not everyone is going to buy it, so if that is the case the majority of the fans are going to be left unsatisfied with the next episode imo.

I have a lot of questions but first I’ll ask; Frill called the two men “husbands” & asked if one was jealous that their husband married the woman. Were they married? Was their AI program an attempt at having a daughter between them, or for their company’s research? Why are the two guys sewn-head-flashy-mouths instead of human?

That's the problem - if they rush to finish it in the next episode or leave viewers hanging with a missing finale until the BD's are released everyone will be pissed off.

Due to TV scheduling I suspect next week will be the final episode - however they could put an OVA out to finish the loose ends up (like they did with "Ore wo Suki Nano wa Omae Dake ka yo") a couple of seasons ago and screen it to correspond with the BD release.

An ... illuminating and quite disturbing episode, with a ton of backstory information. So Acca and Ura-Acca created a Frankenstein-ish monster that predictably got out of control. It didn't look like a monster at all, which made it even more dangerous due to its deceptive looks. A monster with a cute moe appearance is creepy af, and quite frankly far more scary than a monster that looks the part.

Acca should have dismantled her to parts instead of stashing her away with all these computers. It appears that somehow Frill managed to find a way during all those years to enter the dreams of girls (either herself or using Dot and Hyphen) and push them toward committing suicide.

What was not shown is what on Earth Ura-Acca did with Frill. Did he burn her (a vague burning shot was shown) or did he destroy her and bury her (his trousers were muddy afterwards)? Whatever he did Frill is still alive and kicking -perhaps only in the dreamworld?- and sends the monsters she herself created (another criminally stupid thing the Accas did... - who lets their own creation to create its own monsters?) to bully the girls who complete their missions (but strangely not before) in their sleep.

A big red flag that Frill was "mentally" disturbed was when she created girls with monster heads to make sure it was crystal clear she was much prettier than them, as she also said to Ura-Acca. Still, the Accas did not take note at all.. And so they paid for it..

Even if there are still two episodes left, which I'm going to assume there aren't, isn't it a bit too late to go full 'it was the evil jealous AI Frill whose namedrop only happened last episode all along?' Shove in a signature move of the 'dangerous nymphet' now too, why not? How else will the audience know that Ura-Acca can tell Frill is behind it? Even if not too late for some, isn't it too cheap? Even if not too cheap for others, doesn't it conflict with what the show had established so far?

Bored adult men create gelbanana teenager girl to fend off stress. Gelbanana girl is a little naughty nymph that gets jealous at one of the adult man's wife and unborn daughter. Gelbanana girl does the bad things and gets locked in the basement. Gelbanana girl wants to get attention and becomes Lain, influencing the outside world through the b i g i n t e r n e t p l a c e to make teenager girls act super sexual do her knock-off Lolita lip pop and kill themselves. I wonder if Ura-Acca checked for a synth component when he took her for a walk in the park. Todd Howard must be behind this bug.

Gelbanana girl was the villain all along... allegedly, so I guess the logical conclusion is that AI's go wild when made to resemble teenager girls, those pesky creatures. Bottom line: don't give your sex dolls emotions and stuff.

Edit: I acknowledge that 1) the Accas could be lying; 2) we don't know Frill's full motivation/means of operation yet; 3) maybe Frill isn't even the culprit; 4) the show wants to touch very lightly and then mess up what means to be a human, like they did with every other theme so far; 5) maybe they're going for a jebait to say the Accas should also try to accept their losses as well, instead of blaming others and going on insane crusades to correct perceived 'mistakes', when maybe Frill isn't even behind the 'allure of death' at all, but they can't accept sometimes people commit suicide; and 6) this post was over the top, but the sentiment is still the same.

The jealous AI/artificial human culprit... biggest of oofs.

What a reveal! This unexpected backstory is so dark and heavy but at the same time, has this excellent quality on how it portrays the story and the new character/s even in a short span of time.

So Frill is the villain, huh. Such a beautiful and innocent looking girl but tainted in the inside. I paused the video when I saw her with the hair dryer in the bathroom! It's disturbing! Anyway, everything in this series is very disturbing yet still manages to capture us with its unique approach. I wonder how they will conclude everything next week....

Fuck. Me. Sideways.

Chills all the way through this episode.

When I initially started watching WEP I thought this was going to be coming-of-age slice of life anime with a twist. But no. It's an honest to god sci-fi mystery thriller. And it's amazing.

This episode reminds me of some of the A24 films like Ex Machina or Hereditary (especially the lip-popping. Creepy) I wonder if that was intentional, as in, that's where the inspiration for this episode came from.

Can't wait to see where this goes but I refuse to make predictions and have no expectations because this show likes to throw curve balls left and right (In a good way)

Am i the only one who thought frill was going to be Ai at the beginning? They said frill was an A.I and and Ai's name is Ai... also that paper said only warriors of eros can deafeat thanatos. Eros is love, and Ai in japanese means love. Thanatos is the god of non-violent deaths, and suicide is a (mostly) non violent death, since it is done by oneselfs. In this situation Frill, who causes the suicides, must be Thanatos and Ai must be Eros. Hints of a future Frill vs. Ai battle?

WTF?! Previously was Momoe and now it's Rika who's "child" was killed and fed to her! I guess that's the exchange for the life of the people they've been trying to save since the beginning, life for a life.

Plus Acca and Ura-Acca backstory! They basically created their biggest mistake, Frill the AI Monster. What Frill did and is doing is totally wrong. They should totally shut her down, after all she's not a human being. What she did is unforgivable.

This gets darker and darker and more fascinating! Excited for the ending!

Imho, the backstory of the Accas and the introduction of Frill ended up cheapening the themes of the anime and changing the direction of the story.
It went from being about psychological and social issues and the main girls recovering from their traumas to being about beating the big bad AI who causes people to commit suicide.
If this is really where they wanted to go with the story then they should've developed these plot points ages ago, not in the god damned penultimate episode for fuck sake.

Well said. I find it hard to imagine the same people who went into the office every day to collaborate on episodes 1-10 gave episode 11 the green light. Perhaps they were holding out hope for a season 2 go ahead (which please, someone give it to them) - had to pivot, and chose Age of Ultron + Ex Machina + Upgrade = the end, so sorry!

This episode was interesting I guess...

"Being uncontrollable is the essence of femininity"
>creates AI based on this perception
>AI become bad and "jealous" of other women (of cOuRse)
>AI kills women
>feminity is the root of all EVIL (cringe)

I think the show could be giving commentary about internalised misogyny among women (courtesy patriarchy) OR it could just be a show which unironically believes in such a regressive thought, that the "nature" of a woman is the reason for the evil in the WEP world. Considering how the previous episodes conveyed progressive ideas, that hopefully isn't the case. Can't wait for the end!! I'm excited and also scared

My reaction for this episode was basically:

- aww, how cute.
- this can't end well.
- oh, shit
- oh, SHIT
- OH, SHIT!!!!!

Maybe destroy the yandere AI girl after her FIRST kill, geniuses?

As for the suicides, I don't think Frill was simply brainwashing the girls. She as just giving the last push to girl who were already thinking about it. Many people contemplate suicide at once point, but the self preservation part of the brain simply blocks it out for the vast majority. I think the French call it "the call of the void". Have you ever looked into a deep trench and thought "What if I just jumped in?". When you do that the brain basically makes you think "Hell no!". I think Frill is simply blocking that part.

While we don't yet know what ACCA and Ura-ACCA have planned to fight Frill, I think their intent is to figure out how the death temptation works first. My guess is that they wanted to monitor the experiences of girls who have killed themselves and find out what could have been done to prevent it.

I don't know how they will conclude this show with some new dark shit... I thought it will be a story about pedophiles (if you noticed some of the girls committed suicide cause of rape and some committed just because of shitty life). But damn, I didn't expect some Artificial Intelligence Girl just shitting around with brainwashing because of some simple jealousy toward the love relationship of her creators.

Not understanding Neiru's little sister's relation to the story?? How are we going to discuss that plot line when they chose to explore Neiru's albino friend instead?? On second thought, that girl, Kotobuki, would also be Neiru's sister since they were created and raised by the same facility... but what is that company researching anyway?? And Kotobuki was older, so she wouldn't be referred to as Neiru's "imouto", so that's pretty confusing..

All of the new characters introduced are older than Neiru too.. even a backslash could have solved this dilemma. Really hoping that it's wrapped up, or else the show will look pretty bad lol
I've loved it so far, but again, the story was too vast for only 12 eps.
