I never really cared who Mao ends up with tbh. I know season 2 will not finish the anime since there is too much material to adapt. If they do ever finish the anime it should be true to the source material.
Why do people care whether Mao ends up with Emilia or not? I actually hate her so I am glad that it ended like this. I care about the plot ... the meat. As long as the plot was concluded well then I am fine with it. The after-story doesn’t matter even if everyone dies it doesn’t matter anymore.
People always complain if the MC didn’t end up with whom they want ...
I hope so but i don't think it would
(And i think s2 would rrach the end but if we're talking about making a full adaptation.....i think it wont change)
I was really shocked at the ending since almost the whole ln it was signaled to Emilia that's why i wasnt satisfied with who mao ended up with.

Did you actually read the LN? Because its not really an issue with the ship. The whole plot was constructed (from volume 4 onwards) in a certain direction, but the ending suddenly does a 180° and all the build up they did goes to hell, and thats why everyones hates it. The ending (and the whole "solution" to the issue) makes no sense as well.
Keep the original ending. Or at least get a new one by consulting and getting the approval of the original creator.
I don't care if it's better. I want the story to be as truthful to the original as it can be.

Haven’t finished volume 21 yet but I read summaries of the ending. Even if it was that bad doesn’t make the other 20 volumes bad. What happened to Mao was expected to be honest — trying not to mention spoilers. Still changing the ending doesn’t mean we will get a better ending.
In one breath, anime fans are raging about them changing Promised Neverland.
In another, they're asking for the studio to change the source material's ending for DiaPT.
I don't get anime fans sometimes.
Explaining my scoring system would take more than 650 characters.

Is it possible that people are individuals with different opinions and these groups of people don't necessarily overlap?
either change who he ends up with or change the build up towards the manga ending.
the issue tbh is not that Chiho won, rather its the fact that throughout the course of the series Emi and the MC are built up only for the author to cuck everyone of a climax from the build up he made.
Every person that I knew said that this is fucked because for all the hints and the developments that the author has made between Maou and Emi, suddently Maou ended up with an useless loli with big bobs. I doubt it was the same feeling when you read the manga that FMC has child with MC but then he married someone else -> Domestic no kanojo :)

We know, it's called NTR.
Soft NTR but yeah, I understand why they sent the author dead messages.
Hey, calm down everyone. I have some good news to tell you.
Emi actually won, cause Maou and Emi already a family since Alas=ramus acknowledge them as her parents. They are already husband and wife, while Chiho has not confirmed if she will become Maou's wife, Right now, they're just dating. Maou and Emi just want to make Chiho happy for a while.
Think, when Chiho said about Emi was actually like him, Maou did shocked and thinking about Emi's kiss. That means he actually cared about how Emi treat him, then, Maou realized, he shouldn't marry Chiho cause it will hurt Emi and he still care about his child. That makes sense, when Chiho said she want to marry Maou with the wedding plans, Maou negate it, with not enough money reason cause he still have to pay his child refering fees, and many other expense.
Imagine, after a few years over and Alas=ramus grown up, she realized that Chiho want to become her papa's wife. Alas=ramus will be so angry, and keeps arguing with her dad, mama and Chiho, that papa should have Emi is the only wife cause papa and mama must be always together to care about me, and not with other mama. Mama also always crying and jealous inside her heart with Chiho. Maou shocked, think that how dumb he was for not realizing this. At the end, Chiho give up, she realized she hurt Emi and Alas=ramus deep, she apologize, then left them as a true happy family.
So, Maou with Emi at the end. The Vol 21 ending scene just to make Chiho worthy, it should add some story like i just write.
the extent to which I do not care how things resolve romantically cannot be overstated. all I care about regarding season 2 is: is it funny and interesting like the original was? if it's funny I'll accept any plot developments.
people get weirdly invested in the "wrong" waifu winning, it's extremely lame and pathetic, and I judge you.

It doesn't matter who Alas=Ramus acknowledges. Guilt-tripping Maou into marrying Emi? What a sad excuse for a "romantic" ending. If that's the best you can come up with to make Maou X Emi work in your mind, then good luck. Having your child force you to marry someone you're not in love with, yikes.... ^^'
Fact of the matter is, it's Maou X Chiho at the end.
OPs Question:
No, I don't think the ending should be changed, it's one of the best things about the story. Pretty much the entire second half of the story, Maou's just a passive, boring sack of nothing. He's not assertive, he's not cunning, he's just bland. No comparison to Maou at the start and Maou from the Prequel.
I was actually scared that by the end Wagahara would make a Maou X Emi out of nowhere due to public pressure, even though Maou X Chiho made way more sense. So I'm glad that he stuck to his guns, even though the series dropped a bit in entertainment after the first few volumes. :)
Also "lol" to all the people calling this NTR. It's not, they were never even together.
PopeAyaya said: Probably they going to adapt only volumes 3 and 4, and since we have 21 volumes i guess this is a "bit" early to do...
If the author announces that they are going to adapt the original ending of LN, he can expect to not get any enough money for a new season lol.
He will only witness fans boycotting him for it.

It indeed was not an NTR but more like an betrayal for the fans and for alas ramus lol.
They both promised to her to be together forever, so I'm not sure how it would be after maou marries chiho, and I can also assure that maou won't make anything that would make alas ramus extremely sad since he already acknowledged himself as the father of alas ramus.
Anyway, for the chiho x maou ending, there was no real romantic development between chiho and maou in the LN. It was just chiho's one sided love until the author magically made the story make a 180° turn and somehow make maou instantly love her. The only real development was present in V20, which revolved around emi and maou honestly.

I'm pretty sure I watched an anime that was able to put 400 chapters of content into a 12 episode season. Presenting The Promised Neverland season 2 with the famous PowerPoint presentation ending.

I disagree there. The romantic development between Maou and Chiho had been going on from pretty early on in the series. Emi x Maou shippers have ignored it for quite some time, but that's on them (and maybe to some degree on their bias). So no, I don't see any "betrayal" of the fans or Alas=Ramus. Maou and Emi are there for Alas=Ramus but they're not a couple and that's perfectly fine.
I'm not saying that there were no scenes hinting at Maou x Emi, not at all, but Chiho was, time and time again, singled out to be the person that held the most special place in Maou's heart (yes, in the LN). The author went out of his way to point in that direction again and again. While Maou x Suzuno would have been my personal favorite ship (the one I might be biased towards), I always considered it plainly obvious that Chiho is the one Maou has special feelings for (which I'm perfectly fine with because it was done in a nice way imo).
Guess I am not watching the 2nd season now! I am not gonna watch something knowing that I am gonna be disappointed later anyway...
Maou x Emi, how could you f** up such an obvious choice...
And I am sure there are majority of people who wanted Maou and Emi to be together...
Why it has to go this way...
Gimme a sec... I know this had some romance elements but since when was the focus of this series romance? some of you LN fandoms are fcked up pos for sending death threats to an author just cause your chicken didnt win the race let alone actually deem its "understandable" that the author would get death threats.

Welcome to the anime fandom...when they don't get the ending, ship or general conclusion they want...death threats ahoy! Its sad but hey, some people just commit their lives and money to it.

what do except after that big wtf ending beside that author have guts to have a favoritism towards to chino and that woman doesnt have much a development so yeah thats the reason why ππππ

i agree on you just hoping they change the ending so the sake of many fans like us..... π€π€π€
If they don't change the ending, might as well not continue with the adaptation. Lol. I'd be happy if they'd just stop cause I don't know a lot of adaptation with the opposite ending with the original LN. If you know any, please do tell.
Almost 80% to 90% people wants mao x emi ship including me and everyone is expecting that the author will change the ending. So... Please change this goddam ending.
Not all Emi stan hates Chiho. They aren't agrees with how the author create and developed her. Like some people said above, it's not about who Maou ended up with, Chiho really lacks about her interactions with Maou.
Imagine how the author creates Maou and Emi interactions from early volumes and he ended up with girl who has a little of interactions πππ
Also, don't worry. The author another works aren't famous nor even selling well.
And about death threats, mostly are comes from Japanese fans. I don't think the author will bother himself to translate nor even read the death threats since he's still brave enough to create another works π€£π€£π€£
Emi Is all I desire Maou should end up with Emi and Chiyu be the general but also be a soul supporter of Maou and let her meet another demon or maybe a human that's not Maou, Emi deserves Maou, Maou and Emi are souls as 1 ..
