6.5/10 anime over all

It's characters and narratives are pretty good but some parts feel too rushed and others half-baked. I think if they'd just slowed down a little bit, this would've been much better.

All in all, 7/10. On to the next season.

Interesting, will the 2nd "season" (more like a straightforward continuation) try to fill in the gaps between events? Will it adopt a linear storyline or continue with the non-linear bits and pieces?

Just as I thought, the nuclear weapons parallel was inevitable. And finally noticed that the symbols in Jiro's locks and on Claude's costume are the same, if my eyes didn't fail me (it was exclaimed in the show but I only understood it later).

Maybe I should save my overall assessment of the show for when I finish the 2nd part, but I really don't understand the haters. The themes explored in each episode were cool and not so common in anime, I think, not being directly connected (save for a few episodes like 2-parters) is not a drawback given that we have 2nd season. Well, it requires attention, sure. It doesn't make sense to criticize the characters who weren't really flashed out (like Master Ultima or the whole alien thing) before the show could even finish its proper 20+ episode run.

@St0rmblade Had it been the creators' choice, the series would have been made in a single run, I'm sure. But since it was an original project in those days, too risky... (The man isn't lucky, when you see what happened to Neorange.)

The lack of connection was on the contrary ather ftting to the concept, to display several ideas one fter the other, while having several guest writers later (they could have gone further in making some episdes in a specific visual style fitting one of the various designers called for the main characters).
As for required efforts, it didn't seem special to me, thanks to the way every episode gets most of each period necessary to tell a whole story. They even give you again the era year number every episode, for both "timelines".
Glad you liked it !

I don't think Neo Ranga had serious problems on the production side, it was mostly about misleading marketing images (or maybe they were remnants of a different plot)

Regarding the various designers, I couldn't pin down *all* of their unique contributions, but I'm 99% sure that Earth-chan specifically (and the characters in her dream) were designed by the mangaka of Paniponi Dash.

I meant things like the format given to the project, something they clearly didn't want. The show often seemed like it should have been a 26eps classic structure. Without seasonal cut either.

Good point n the designer, I think it is. (Can't retrieve my booklet...)

I wanted to like the anime but I found it quite hard to follow sadly.
