THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well, this episode got more spooky with Keiichi now deeper involved with the curse in the village.

Given the nature of the mystery, Miyo and Kuraudo got a lot more screen time. The question brings in whether they can be trusted or not. Miyo in particular gave me vibes that she's hiding something more than she's letting on.

One thing I did find a bit annoying about this episode is the lighting though. Seems it got a lot darker in some scenes than the previous episodes and harder to see.

Omfg, don't do this. Oyashiro-sama's curse has started, it looks like Tomitake and Nakano are in trouble. If that room is forbidden to enter, what will happen to Shion and Keiichi. It looks like Keiichi is really confused to hear Oyashiro-sama's curse from Shion.

Rika real face, huh? That was so scary.

Rika also info dumped Keiichi a bit more than necessary, I think. It would be better to allude to the events around the Oyashiro' curse without stating anything clear.

She's just been through so much versions of the same event, that Rika just might be tired of Keichi's bullshit.

I only have issues with the lighting in this episode. They could have brighten it a little. Other than that it looks like Rika is channeling her
and that makes me hype for the next episode.

The lighting was terribad. The episode itself was 4/5 otherwise. But now it's 3/5 max with the lighting bs. So much night time action and no one bothered to pay attention to how it would look like on screen? C'mon now.

Rika stuff was pretty good, I have a feeling she is turning more evil.

Even with RAW or Subs, I'd agree that this episode's "Darker than Black" spooky lighting WAS JUST PLAIN TERRIBAD. Yes, Higurashi is already horror, but this treatment doesn't do it justice through a good balance of brightness. All the night scenes are FAR TOO DARK, literally cramping brightness from 0 to 100 so much it hurts my eyes. How this episode got cooked out of an essential aspect and given the green light of production baffles me.

Otherwise, Oyashiro-sama's curse lingers for another host, and sure enough Tomitake and Takano aren't dare-devils for nothing whilst reeling Keiichi and Shion in about the whole matter.

But if there's one GRAVE MISTAKE that Keiichi did, is that he LIED, and in the Hinamizawa Village of strange hearsays and multiple assassinations, you DO NOT want to be on the wrong side. And while both Tomitake and Takano were the next possible targets of Oyashiro-sama's curse (and DOA on the spot), Keiichi is in for a rude awakening of the Rena treatment, now duplicated with Rika.

This whole matter of Shion and Keiichi entering the forbidden shrine...just how long will this arc stretch?

This ep was noice.

There was an unsettling vibe to it, and we got more explanation as to what the actual fuck is Oyashiro Sama, and it's belief. The question is, How does Rika know about who intervened and why the fuck should Shion stay alive?

And, How were those two fuckers killed? As they were killed recently, so there should be some clues. And, Who is this Village head? As there is no priest, no village head, the only thing that exists is the police. So Is it a long term fest to cap the lost blood that those blood seekers need?

But, My previous speculation was right. The store has some extreme case S & M stuff. To top that off, there are also some curses stored there. And, Yes, Shion was special but not similar to Keiichi but more of a city gangster role.

The scenes inside the ritual storehouse was dark but they had to make it darker than outside because it's a dark closed storehouse with no lighting (but it was visible, at least for me i didn't have any problem), when they were outside it was normal.

Kimiyoshi, the guy who went missing, is the Mayor. But the head of the Sonozaki Family is considered the True Village Head.

Well, What can I say except thanks bro! I thought that everybody who was killed earlier was involved in the dam plan, but then why would the village head die or be sacrificed? As, Village Head is an inner person, not an outsider, Then why him?

Then Again I think these are mystery yet to be uncovered, yet to be discussed, yet to be shown.

I've finished Watanagashi's VN 12 hours ago, so I'm remarkably fresh. The storehouse scene is so light-hearted after just reading the VN... think about torture devices and their functions being described to you for over an hour, mixing fiction with japanese history. My stomach really felt like my entrails turned upside down, best moment of Watanagashi's VN imo.

There are a few differences, the same differences from Onidamashi, but with a little more screen information. I don't want to give much information, but on ep2 it already reached the point of no return. I still had hope that Rika had acted preemptively on ep3 though.

It was a good episode overall, Keiichi comes with the kitty talk instead, and I didn't expect Rika's reaction. However my expectations on the arc's ending are really low. Despite the bad production quality, I liked the turn of events in Onidamashi ep4.

Also, I felt Rena's eyes were done badly, but I must say I really like Rika's eyes.

I hope they bring up something really, really new to end this arc, because this is the 3rd arc with the similar scenario, it's getting repetitive.

Holy shit I didn't know she could make that voice. And I'm not just talking about Rika but Yukari Tamura xD. I always hear her with that super moe voice so this took me by surprise lol.

So Mion/Shion come from a yakuza family huh... I mean, in the ED you kind of see a glimpse of this so it's not that surprising but that they mention it directly in the series after you've known and seen them does make it a bit surprising.

Oh well, as expected, this timeline is doomed and Rika is aware of this but what is actually her role? She is simply doomed to peacefully observe and let everything happen naturally over and over again? This is the second time we see her with those eyes as if she were possessed, but the first time she shows her change. What is happening? I am so intrigued xD.

The next episode should be the end of this arc and then we jump straight into the next girl but I feel we haven't seen enough of Mion/Shion... I guess we'll explore more of them later like with Rena with whom things were not closed either, but this arc was too short for me. Having 2 girls and having seen more of one than the other leaves me wanting more.

This episode is, again, similar to the original VN. The only differences I could spot were Takano and Tomitake leaving by van and Tomitake not dying, and Rika having enough of Keichi's BS.

Now I'm sort of interested in how this will end. Will this take the Tsumihoroboshi-hen ending or will this take Watanagashi-hen/Meakashi-hen ending? Next week will be the finale of this arc so hopefully it ends alright.

Lol, Takano-san totally toyed around with Keiichi in the storehouse there. A lot of new padded scenes added for the mischief, can’t say I mind it to be honest.

Meanwhile, as expected, things are tense due to the Wataganashi night. Even Ooishi-san isn’t holding back anymore but Rika-chan?! She totally all psycho mode there. She’s given up, lol. And honestly who can blame her?

It’ll be interesting to see what direction the next episode will take. Arcs 2 & 4 from the Deen version was my favourite tied with a certain “answer” arc from Kai so I can’t help but have expectations for it.

I was just reminded how bad Kei-chan is at lying or even playing dumb.

Seems like Rika is just done with this shit.
Considering this, could it be that the reason she isnt really doing shit to save everyone is because

This would explain why she does the bare minimum to save even one person.

And she acts as if she doesnt actually know the truth, that she claimed she knew.

Maybe we are approaching this the wrong way?
This isnt Rika.

Would make sense why Hanyuu isnt with her and why she is trapped again, as for who would do that Featherine and/or Lambda are obvious answers.

Theories aside, I just dont like the color of her scary eyes. Why not just keep them purple or at least make that the primary color?

Now this is a definite step up from last episode for me, not to mention that ending has me pretty intrigued for next week. I did have a problem with the art this episode, not like animation-wise, as the animation was clean as usual. During the more serious moments, the way they were done just wasn't as effective as they were in previous episodes, which was pretty underwhelming. IN terms of that, it was definitely the placement of the lighting that really dragged them down, like when Keichii was on the phone with Shion near the end of the episode, I was also gonna kind of can the way the lighting was done in the Rena ending scene too, but I actually think that's the one instance where it's done well perspective wise. It didn't take away all my enjoyment though, as even with those errors there were still a lot of standout scenes, especially in the beginning with Takano telling the fable of Watanashi's origins, that was the highlight of the episode for me. Overall even though it had some hiccups, solid episode once again.

I didn't expect them to jack a truck and leave like that. Also, apparently going into the shrine has screwed that "World" Honestly Keiichi would not have known this nor did I feel like he got any hints about this. So it makes me wonder if Rika was actively trying to stop him from going into the shrine in the background.
