Big hopes it can maintain a consistency, Production I.G proved consistent by the past so here goes nothing. Maybe they'll be the ones doing it.

Now this is some surprising announcement. We've only gotten 1 episode out (which is good) and we already got a second season ordered for Spring. That is an odd move for the series there.

it was meant to be a two cour series from the beginning probably the second half will be in spring because they needed more time for the second half especially with the pandemic slowing productions and I.G uses some chinese studios in its productions too so like Re zero's second season and Danmachi III's postponement.

i think it's confirmed that it will be in Spring 2021, since MAL already has it as:

Premiered: Spring 2021

Not necessarily, while not split by the pandemic, bsd and bookworm were split cour series that considered the second half season 2

the synopsis says it's the second half
so i guess it's not exactly the second season?
if you read some of the manga you'll realize that the anime has caught up with it (it only has 27 chapters so far)

I am a little disappointed with the first season but that is probably because i had high expectations.
It is a good show but hope that season 2 gets better

In simplicity, season 1 was just a whole setup for something big that is going to take place in season 2. The first half of the series has certainly set a very high expectation for the second half.
