I was kinda disappointed honestly. I thought they were FINALLY going to talk openly about their feelings in the beginning of the episode, much of the dialogue is like so confusing.

But that's almost the point of the series. They are so roundabout and less than transparent about what they really want and feel, that they don't come out with it. It's partly cultural, but also because they clearly are terrified of the consequences of being open and transparent. They could be really hurt. That's why "genuine" is so hard to achieve.

It makes me happy that the anime hinted Kawasaki's affection for 8man (which is in the novel).

yes! And I loved their little banter surrounding Keika. Almost seemed like a married couple arguing on how to raise their child. And doesn't saki look great in those pants?

And we're backkk, picked up perfectly after the end of last season and man FEEL have really been in there bag improving ever since season 2. The animation and art look even more gorgeous. Every movement by the characters just looks so realistic and life-like. The melodrama, tension and psychology that we have all come to know and love is very well done again.

Really liking silver hair girl as well, she's cute.

I am super hype right now, Weekends will be awesome with all the heat we have Friday and Saturday.

Yahallo is back!

I am so not ready to get my heart broken. Seriously, I love all the girls of this show so much, but Yui is my best girl.

I love the dance sequence in the OP.

So they animated that scene between Hachiman and Kawasaki from the cultural festival, nice! I haven't read the LN but I had read that they skipped it in the first season so I'm glad to see it, it was great. Her reaction was amazing, she's so freaking cute! The whole scene between her, her little sister and Hachiman (and then Komachi) was great, they looked like a family <3. Now I need more Kawasaki!

Komachi... it's nothing new but she's absolutely great! I'd root so hard for her if she wasn't Hachiman's sister, I love their interactions xD. I can't believe how perfect Aoi Yuuki is in the role. And that last scene, man, it was so heartwarming.

So happy to have one of my favorite shows back. It's amazing how much I've enjoyed this episode, the interactions are just top notch!

Don't remember much about what was happening and don't think it is really necessary. Pretty decent start. Really hope to see the end of the story, repeating this for all the continuations that are coming out ...

Gotta say the comedy feels a little bit outdated.

I like that this season picked up right where season 2 left off, keeps the realism of the show in my opinion. Komachi & Hikki's sibling relationship is still very much a highlight and it broke my heart when he got teary about the idea of her leaving him one day because I relate to that so much!

How I've interpreted the sitch between Yui, Yukino & Hikki this ep is that Yui has made her feelings towards Hikki known in a way that isn't damaging to their dynamic so she can move on, therefore leaving Yukino to confess her own feelings but she feels there are things she needs to get straight in her life first and Hikki is quietly aware of all this.

Pinging @KANLen09 @animejas @cchigu cause they were among the first on my friends list to see the premiere.

Finally got to this episode, thank god, and man it was such a nice time reacting and discussing things on my live stream. I'll go with the main qualms first: it IS evident at how Saki has been shunned for the majority of the adaptation, but I guess the reason to leave her out was perhaps anime-onlys for me may get the wrong idea about her adding unnecessarily to the romantic parts of the story....just my opinion here. The second is that while I think the amazing Feel visuals haven't really dipped that much at all in quality from s2, I kinda wish Cloverwork outsourcing didn't come down to adding that one instance of CGI models in the back during one scene, although it wasn't really anything to significantly affect my experience, thankfully.

The pacing in this episode was honestly well handled as usual.

The first half of the episode and the OP visuals had me feeling some kind of ways cause it means we're basically at the endgame; gonna be rather depressing seeing my beloved three's journey come to an end when all is said and done.

This is already looking like AOTS for me by a longshot. I know there's other ongoing cours, but still....

Let me quote my previous comment.
cchigu said:
Mama Yukinoshita wants Haruno to take over Papa Yukinoshita's job. That is why, until now, their mother has been stricter with Haruno while she has been lenient on Yukino. Yukino wants to be the one to take over the job but she is afraid of the fact that her mother would not allow that. It is most definitely Yukino's fault since she has not tried to convey her feelings directly to her mother. Also, Yukino has an inferiority complex towards her sister which is a good part of the reason why her behavior is so distant.

Yukino is trying to change herself without anybody's help and hence she is asking Yui and 8man to just watch her from a distance. She doesn't want anybody else's help since she thinks not taking anybody else's help equates to being strong. She wants to show her mother that she is an independent and a strong capable person.
Pretty much this.

It doesn't feel like 5ish years since season 2, as this picked up right where that left off without so much as missing a beat. This was a fairly slow and low-key episode, but still felt like a strong start all the same. If nothing else, some more screentime for Kawasaki was nice after season 2 really cut back on the supporting cast.

Nostalgia at its zenith. Opened just where it left. The siblings exchange reminded me season to years ago. Rating the series masterpiece would not suffice🥺. It's Anime of the year contender 😇

It's been many years, but I'm glad that OreGairu is back for a third season and the first episode started exactly where season two ended.

Was it great? Of course it was! XD

Yukino showing how much she wants to change herself for the better was really nice to see, so I hope it goes well for her when she talks to her mother.

Saki and her little sister got some screentime too and their talk with Hachiman was really nice. I do love the flashback when Hachiman thanked her by saying "I love you too" while running down the hallway. Saki's expression to that was excellent.

My favourite part of the episode was the sibling talk between Hachiman and Komachi. Not only were their synergy in top form, but Komachi really shows just how much of a nice girl she is. ^_^

Both OP/ED songs were really good, although the OP animation took me by surprise by having the main cast dance so happily. Yukino in a tuxedo was pretty awesome, I won't deny. =P

Looking forward to the next episode already!

My boy Hachiman is finally back, one last time. It's been a hell of a ride these past years.

This was a super comfy episode. The scene in the coffee shop, then Hachiman and Komachi. Everything about it felt warm.

Kawaksaki is so incredibly cute, it always pains me that she continually gets shafted. A total waste of a great character.

Looks like Komachi is growing up. It really makes you feel like time is passing and things are progressing. Hard to believe it's all coming to an end. I'm excited, but nervous to see how it all ends.

Man, it's amazing to finally being able to watch this again! Eventho it hasn't been that long for me!

Left off pretty much where it ended in S2!

The scenes with Kawasaki was pretty damn nice, but man this banter between Hachiman and Komachi, while at some moments it got pretty dead serious, was just brilliant! Their relationship is amazing and I love every second of it!

I am just glad the whole gang is back!

FINALLY! These past 5 years felt twice the length. So glad to have the wait over and done with.

The episode was decent, it definitely felt more akin to season 1 than season too with how positive and upbeat things were played. Only real issue I have is 8-man felt like he was almost a different character with how confident and silly he was acting during the second half. Really felt like his characterization was deliberately changed just to make this episode feel more lighthearted before the drama kicks back in. At any rate, I always love the back and forth banter between Hachiman and Komachi, so it was worth watching just for the ending bit with those two.

8man has always been like this around Komachi, Keika and Saki. Imo, Komachi was the one who was acting weird but considering how stressful her exams were, her behavior is justified.

Firstly I'm so so happy to see Oregairu back after 5 years. It's been a long wait, but a sweet one.
10/10 start. Yukino is finally taking the necessary steps to change herself. Komachi and Hachiman's interaction was too much precious.

Ohh and Kawasaki. What a great "behind the scene" of the festival xD Made me laugh so much

Hm.. Hachiman can be playful at least with someone.. And this person is Komachi.. Nothing wrong with that, it's actually good that he has ability to be playful, and maybe with closest persons he'd be like that.. Or with his wife.. Who knows, of course, but still it's a possibility he could even be warm and playful how he is with Komachi sometimes..
He's also playful with Kawasaki Saki's sister.. I really don't remember Hachiman being playful like that with anyone.. Well, except for Komachi.. And maybe Zaimokuza or something.. Either way.. Wonder, if he likes children.. Though, he was on a bit distant, even if caring terms with Rumi..
Keika is Saki's sister name..
That Saki getting flustered about Hachiman telling he loves her feels like a harem tease or something - feels like it's out of place, to be honest.. Just like "let's put this girl into harem as well, just because".. lol.. ;p
I'm a bit surprised how Komachi actually enjoying some time together with Hachiman.. A bit hard to believe they can hang out happily like that.. Even if they had their trusting talks before and stuff.. Hachiman just looks like entirely different person to me with Komachi, really..
As well as I don't really understand, why Komachi enjoys it.. And enjoys it honestly.. And then even thanks Hachiman on her knees for everything.. I don't know about that.. Yeah, he's bad example of living.. But I didn't really see him doing much for Komachi.. Well, maybe it was even before the events we observe, who knows..
Overall, first episode was.. Hm.. Well, I'm glad that Hachiman is getting a bit more emotions - with Keika, and Komachi.. As if melting from the snow, how the episode title says.. Hachiman being our Ice Queen really, lol.. ;P Yukino's part.. Feels only as a beginning.. Just have to see more, really..

This was a great first episode! All of the things that make Oregairu wonderful are still here, though this episode was a bit more comedic than the general tone of the series. All in all I feel that this episode was starting us on a high point so that the travail we are about to pass through seems more dramatic.

Hachiman is back, they are finally back. I have no idea how the novel ends, but I hope he doesn't choose either of them, Oregairu is not the usual romantic story, but a path of inner growth and self-improvement, love is not at the center of the work and honestly I don't see how they can remain united, I would like to see all three of them together even at the end.

Yukino takes courage and decides to finally face her sister and parents. Nice moment between Hachiman and Komachi, they have a beautiful relationship and just like Komachi says, Hachiman is a robot that begins to feel emotions.

After 5 years, it's back! Although most of us had to wait for another day, sadly.

Anyways, we've picked up from where we left. Yukino's request was really simple. Since she had to take a big leap for her future, cannot wait for its further development.

Kawasaki! Oh no... Hachiman, you should've chose your words very carefully, she might get it the wrong way in further episodes. Kawasaki's little sister is cute as ever.

The chemistry between the Hachiman siblings are frankly the best. I didn't expected that even after their friendly banter, Komachi thanked his brother's service. Never expected to see Hachiman having a tearful moment again since that genuine episode.

Nevertheless, it's back and it's great!

I'm not gonna lie, it was a good episode and all, but does anyone else feel like Hachiman's VA, Eguchi, Takuya, is really lacking the depth that he demonstrated for the first two series? I know that there weren't many instances where Hachiman needed to speak up, but just in general, I feel like his (Takuya-san's) voice got a bit weaker overall.

Other than that, pretty good episode and really enjoyed the nice little emotional moment with Komachi at the end.

It’s been a long 5 years but Yahari is finally back!

As far as the episode goes,
It was relatively wholesome to start off. However, I’m expecting a lot more drama later on, when Haruno and Yukino’s mother take a central role.

Found it hilarious Saki blushes when remembering Hachiman’s ‘I love you’...
I really enjoyed the moments with her — she should honestly be a contender for best girl as well, I love her personality!
Apparently her and Hachiman had a lot more scenes that were omitted in previous seasons, so I’m glad she gets more screen time.

I’m absolutely loving Komachi, and the brother-sister dynamic they have is as wholesome as ever.
Looking forward to the next ep!

I enjoyed this episode a lot. Komachi is the best imouto.

That said, the translations from Sentai were horrible. I'm too lazy to go through them all but I found a guy that is going through a lot of them and hopefully if this gains traction Sentai will get a better translator and fix all these mistakes. (Unlikely - they seem to not care given their history of bad translations)

5star opening giving me all the vibes of why i enjoy love comedy the character interactions are top tier.

even though at this point Saki still feels like a side character i still got some love for which is already hard with how many good girls there are damn

A decent episode for build-up, though nothing amazing either. The dialogue has above average complexity, as usual, and it is used well in some parts. That said, some of the drama is a bit excessive, like a few others have pointed out.

I have read the LN as well, so I know what is going to happen. I expect an ok season, but it will probably fall a bit short of being excellent.

shit bro its happening its actually finally happening omg. Fuck bro first like 10 mins was me shaking in my seat from excitement and nostalgia. First episode was a definite swing to the heart, seeing all the characters again was such a joy ride and it was the most Oregairu episode i could have asked for. But damn, admittedly i should of also probably re-watched at least season 2 xD can barely remember certain details.
Was really surprised Saki was in the first episode, i remember she didn't really get a lot of attention last season(s) which i was sad about as i actually really liked her character, but non the less her talk with Hachiman and interactions with him was heartwarming. And what what what, those Rascals at TBS studios, while i'm dying of nostalgia they then suddenly show that flash back to Hachiman passing Saki and unknowingly fuelled the engine to a bigger ship. 10/10 yelp though, Hachiman actually turned her into a full on maiden with 3 words.
Komachi was a sweet cinnamon role as well, her ability to both be an absolute bundles of cuteness and being able to spit insults at her brother faster then Eminem's "rap god" is what i love about her character.
Also sorry is it just me? Or did they like re-animate certain scenes from the season 1? I remember the animation/art of the baking scene with Yui and Yukino being a little more crusty then what we saw. If they did, then thats a really nice move they did.
