From the synopsis and the PV, it seems it's another Attack on Titan rip-off, just like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. But we'll see if it really turns out this way.

I think that someone has to inform you that concept of 'humanity on a verge of extinction' is not invented by SNK.

Try reading the synopsis of SNK to a non-anime fan and they will probably tell you that it reminds them of A Song of Ice and Fire. And it really does.

In a sea of garbage anime and dozens of delays an Attack on Titan rip-off doesn't sound that bad anyway.

It looks good. And the direction behind main plot can be totally different than AOT. And it seems more character focused than AOT. It gives off Mob Psycho Vibes on some level. I think this can be anime of the season for summer

You really don't see obvious similarities? It's not just "humanity fighting for survival". Just look at the synopsis:

In this show, humanity was nearly wiped out by unknown, mysterious creatures that suddenly emerged out of nowhere. So humans have built some kind of supposedly unconquerable fortress where all survivors continue to live (I have a feeling that it will turn out not so unconquerable). So in this fortress, there is a group of warriors and a group of average people that do all the work necessary for the survival of humanity. And we have a young protagonist that really wants to join this group of warriors for some reason. Sounds familiar?

And look at the key visual and the PV, they literally use 3D maneuver gear from Attack on Titan!

You probably think that you appeared smart by ridiculing me but if you would bother to check my profile before writing this stupid comment, you would notice that I have watched Eva (and not just once), and therefore I am very familiar with it.

And also I have explained why it seems to me more like an Attack on Titan rip-off and not just another survival-of-mankind story in my previous comment, but you didn't bother to read it either.

Yes, I realize that we have no basis to judge yet, but that's why I said that we'll see how it really turns out in the future.

I only said how it looks to me based on what we have at the moment, so that may be wrong.

It is by the same director (Yuzuru Tachikawa) and script writer (Hiroshi Seko).
I really hope it goes in the character development director rather than the thriller aspect of AOT and similar shows. Either way we can expect some great animation cuts here.

Yeah, gives me Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress vibes which is also called an AoT rip off, this one just seems to be on a bigger scale. At the most though, we can call it “inspired by AoT”...

95% of anime premises and characters are a ripoff of something else, that doesn't make them automatically invalid or bad. What matters most is the execution.

Attack on Titan was inspired by Muv-Luv Alternative. In OP's words Attack on Titan is a "rip-off"

From my view it doesn't make sense to discuss about it like that because it's simply nonsense. Not knowing the facts but posting about your own opinion as it would be a fact :/ Everything is kinda a rip-off of a rip-off of a rip-off in OP's way of thinking.

Yeah, in the end we still have to see where Deca-Dence will be heading no matter what. But it will be it's own thing. It already looks like it's own thing.

I mean, "Humanity cornered and/or on the brink" is a pretty old setup in and out of Anime. My mind goes to "The Night Land", by William Hope Hodgson, a monster of a scifi/fantasy novel from 1912 (stylized as though from 1712, it's dense as hell) where humanity's "last millions" are eternally besieged in an impossibly gigantic fortress, outside of the protection of which the world is crawling with evil powers, giants, and monsters that would like nothing better than to eradicate mankind.

Of course, Attack on Titan is a moderately recent hit with such themes. I think you could say this is following AoT's lead if it takes up similar traits like an interest in shock value, gore, a 'dark and gritty' tone, rampant militarism, humans being rotten/real monsters, or a relentless pessimism. Maybe not all of them, but at least some number of those tone and theme notes, in addition to the vague scenario of "Humanity has a stronghold and the rest is monster". To me, at least, it doesn't currently sound like that's where that is going. It still could, of course, but I think it would be premature to say that it will.

I saw your comment and I was"come on, must be an exageration", but I watched ep 1.... and It´s kinda a ripoff, let´s face it. and a dull one considering only the first episode. even kabaneri did a better job. it also has this desertpunk element that reminds me of Gurren lagann, but that one had a really promising start.

Attack on Titan doesn’t exactly have a unique base plot or set of characters, there are many similar stories made before and after the release of AoT around the world in different languages. Execution of what’s being presented is the only things that matters, it’s also hard to determine something’s merit before it’s at least somewhat progressed through its story.

Before they turned attack on titan to a regular shounen anime it could stand as something unique like a action anime with alot of horrors but soon enough it became like any popular overrated shounen, As soon as you knew that alot of reguler people were titans the horror aspect of the show went away

I also watched the first episode and boy did i find way more apealling than episode 1 of aot. Better animated, at least in the character animation, better designs, way more CG but also way better done, better backgrounds and i already have a decent connection with the characters something i didnt have until very much later in attack on titan. Is the story better than aot tho? i have no idea, its episode 1.

The Titans actually being humans made things way more interesting. It provided more avenues to expand the world, to explore social, political and moral issues. If the Titans would have remained just mindless zombies it would have eventually turned boring since there would have been no more aspects to explore other than the horror aspect. It would have really limited the story. The Titans being humans is what made the story interesting for me since the first episodes were just okay for me, nothing to write home about. It's only after finding out Eren was a Titan that I became hooked on the show.

From the trailer Deca-Dence reminds me more of Made in Abyss and Gurren Lagann. It looks more futuristic/technology based. Attack on Titan's setting reminds me more of late medieval Germany than some futuristic land like in Deca-Dence.
The only similarity is the dystopia/last remnant of humanity aspect. Which has been done in fiction many times.

?? If they hadn't gotten rid of the horror aspect AOT wouldn't even be as close to as good as it is today. A lot of the interesting drama and themes like how people view the other was done very well because the series dropped the horror aspect. Plus to be honest Isayama is better at writing that stuff vs just doing horror in my opinion. I still like S1 but I am going to be honest if that is all AOT ended up being it would have gotten boring. Overrated also is inherently a bad critique.

Anyway AOT started out no different than any other post apocalypse story. One last human city and humanity on the break of destruction is a pretty common trope in that department way before AOT existed. The only other thing I can see is they use some sort of zip line. Still I bet the story is going to stick more with Apocalypse story-line so where the story goes could be completely different. Will be cautiously optimistic as the animation and art look good.

Well, that is a weak argument if u ask me, aot released way before so obvs this will have better quality, it is not fair to compare something that released almost 7 years ago to few days ago, it is only a surprise if aot s1 had better animation than this thing.

well no that boils down to just personal tastes then, the overall quality does get better overtime tho, it is the style that involves skill, the quality is something that just gets better overtime, it gets more refined

I still disagree, the colours for example did get better thanks to digital animation and coloring isnt made by pencil anymore, but animation itself, the overall movement is pretty much the same, and 6 years isnt that much time to improve anyway

okay while 6 years is not that big of a difference, we see how much CG has evolved in the past years and the overall quality is getting better and better every year.

Uhmmm i guess i can see that. Even though the cgi from later seasons of aot still looked pretty bad at times but im not saying this will look better than titan visually overall because it probably wont but what i meant was that this episode was more impressive than the premiere of aot i think its a fact

Kabaneri wasn't an Attack on Titan ripoff (Tetsuro Araki had already adapted High School of the Dead years prior to directing either AoT or Kabaneri) and neither is this. The whole concept of humanity fighting for survival has been around for ages. Blue Gender is one such series that comes to mind for me.
